It's funny.. some people love Windows 7 so much they'll install it on old systems that really have no use for it. And then there's me, who hates it so much I stick with XP even on recent machines.
@Jallge you don't need to disable services, that will actually be more detrimental to performance than help it. After a while once the superfetch has made the caches it will run a bit faster. I've ran windows 7 on pentium III's so it will run fine without disabling services.
@irockas Absoloutely... If you test windows 7 in an old HP desktop PC witn Ahtlon XP 1,700 (For example) you will have problems with Sound drivers... Even, I tried it in a Desktop PC with Athlon 2.0, and Chipset VIA, and the same; Fucking sound drivers!!!!!
Also if you have an old Videocar, for example a... ATI Rage 128 MB, you WONT find drivers for Windows 7 and you will have to run it with crapy basic desktop
@InsaneMetalSoldier tanx dude but my pc sux totally my motherboard is a MSI KT4AV (MS-6712) and my graphic card is nvidia gforce mx 4000 64mb and I HAVE A 20 GB HARD DISK FOR THE WORST the ide hard disks are so expensive would windows 7 work IN my PC.??
I've tried it several times in PCs with more or less the same processor, AMD 1800, 1700, 2,0Ghz etc etc etc, with chipset VIA or NVIDIA. The problem is always the same. FUCKIN SOUND DRIVERS!!! You can try but probably you won't get the drivers properly, and you won't find them on the manofacturer web sites. Trust me.
@InsaneMetalSoldier yesterday i changed my pc i got the 140 gb hard drive , a nvidea gforce mx4000 128 mb card and a 512 ram card (now igot 1gig of ram).
and a amd athlon 2200+ and i got a sound card a c-media 8738 last time i had a cmedia sound card windows 7 detected sound card drivers and it ran well enough.
and btw which is better amd athlon 2200+ or amd athlon 1800+
@irockas Something important: If you are using dedicated hardware, like a Sound Card, and a Videocard, there are more chances that they work on Windows 7! Yeah...Probably you can upgrade. And well obviously, if the name of the procesor is the same, the higher is the number, better is the processor because it's the frecuency. Remember that AMD puts a name like "Ahtlon 1,8 2200" it means that the actual frecuency is 1,8Ghz, but "runs as good as" an intel of 2,2Ghz xD I think it's just marketing
@InsaneMetalSoldier you can install xp drivers for sound. Just right click the setup and hit properties and do xp compatability mode. It works, I've done it on machines before.
I have My PC View : AMD Athlon XP 3000+2.2 Ghz...RAM 1 GB DDR1...KingMaX...ASROCK K7S8X+...ASUS HD 3450 512MB GDDR2 HDMi.agp 8x....Audio: RealTek AC'97...DirectX 11 Windows 7!!!;) Very Good!! Sursa 450W:>:>:>

@NitroGadvRules doesn't make sense to me, it was unusable with all the default services. then i disabled some and it ran just as fast as xp.
maybe p3's have super powers. they can do some pretty amazing stuff
