You lose the bet on my parents. I was the youngest of eight children. Both of my parents worked to support us- they didn't have time to "criticize" anyone. They minded their own business and worked their asses off to feed & clothe their kids- nobody gave them a dime. My father had an 8th grade education. He & his siblings were orphaned when he was 12. Earlier in the 20th century, racist ass white senators spoke for hours about why blacks shouldn't be allowed to vote or hold a seat. Laws were even put into place to SUPPORT that. Mr. Rush is wrong, there is not, nor should there be a quota system in the Senate or anywhere in the government, but Burris should be seated since he was appointed by an elected gov. of his state, who may be guilty of a crime, but is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Denying Mr. Burris his seat in the Senate is political, Obama, Jesse Jackson and Emmanuel are the culprits behind this fiasco, Reid should step down as majority leader.

I don't agree with Rush's perspective but with all do respect, when a nation sails to another country and enslaves and kills millions of people, then writes laws that say people of a certain race are not human, all over the course of a couple hundred years, race is ALWAYS going to be an issue to deal with. Rush is a fool and distracts from the real issues but it's naive to think race is not an issue or won't be one just cause a guy with dark skin became president. It doesn't erase race problems.

I agree with you. History is always written by those who are in power and strong, and as long as they go on to regard one group of people superier to another, racicism and isolation will follow up. But concerning the issue of choosing a senator, the color of skin should not be regarded as a criteria and any individual should be equal. It's the quality and capability of the senator that matters.

Blacks were already enslaved by other blacks in Africa, and THEN sold to whites...and the importation of slaves into what became the U.S. represented only 10% of the total number.
(The primary reason for the disparity being the horrendous rates of mortality for slaves at cane plantations in the Caribbean and South America. Blacks in the U.S. have THRIVED, however...)

But in Illinois we have an opportunity to appoint a senator and it only makes sense to replace Barracks vacant seat with another qualified African American, it's one thing to act like we are victims of the white man (which we are because no one ask to be kidnapped and raped and forced to do hard labor for 16 hrs a day for no pay) but it's another thing to be systematically targeted as a race.

As a black person, I must say that I'm a little embarrassed by Mr. Rush's sentiment. I don't think people like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King died to have us be given position's because of the colour of our skin; but rather that those qualified for those positions would not be hindered by prejudices based on the colour of their skin. It is obvious here that no one appointed by this governor can be considered a "qualified" candidate. The fact that the candidate is black is beside the point.
