I also understand what the lyrics are saying but realize that Scott Alan bases his beliefs about God's plans on his own views, not on tradition and the word of God. I am very strongly against homosexuality, but only the act. I hope Christians everywhere will realize that we have no right to hate the people who, on the basis of pride and the want to be accepted, think of homosexuality as a beautiful thing.

God! I hate r&b-ish riffing embellishments. They ruin an otherwise moving and sincere performance from the soul of a sweet, beautiful performer of a gorgeous and heartfelt song. What do they mean--those riffs? All I get is that the singer isn't comfortable sustaining a long, well supported high note. Who wants attention drawn to that? But I still love this. Wish my mom would listen to this.

@MrYankeeTex. Riffs have nothing to do with not being able to hold a note. Mariah Carey is probably the best example of a singer who can hit and hold a note yet she is the QUEEN of riffs. Some people like it and some people don't.

@dekeandrewjohnson I agree with you. I think the problem is too many singers simply rely on vocal tricks. In theater, you sing what you can't say in a musical, and you dance what you can't sing to get the story across. In a performance like this, a 'riff' should only be used when the emotion of the song can't be expressed with the lyric alone. I think RJ gave a completely genuine and honest performance here and nothing felt forced or out of place.

That is just a sheer fraction of it.

The song is about a child pleading to his parents to accept him for who he is in life. The point is made that he is still the same person he has always been...their child. Nothing more...Nothing less. The power behind the lyrics allows you to feel the pain and anguish that he has in wanting to be accepted by his parents.

Scott Alan has a way of putting his experiences into music. This was a song he wrote to his mom when he came out. Truly inspiring!
