what a funny moment. alan in the same position, attitude, willingness, enthusiasm as he was in 101 while explaining how keyboards work to pennebaker. not to mention the black celebration sounds! also, I love the interviewer's voice.

Alan Wilder is such a nice guy- i would absolutely be ecstatic if he rejoined DM. He was so very important to their sound in the studio. i only wish i heard about this sooner and could have acquired a piece of memorabilia from this auction~!

well...you can consider him whatever you want...fact is, he did the most production stuff and sound creation during the time he was at depeche...so if he really invented all of these great sounds himself, they somehow belong to him and it´s truly up to him what he´s doing with them...to me depeche´s certain something went away as alan left...nowandays their sounds are more like a copy of björk than something innovative...sad but true...

@okashasunami Ha..Ha..What planet are you living on?? So Alan didn´t contribute with anything to Depeche?? That must be one of the stupidest things I ever heard. Without Alan Depeche would never had the succes they had. Gore wrote the songs but Alan did a lot of work in the studio.

During the recording of the SOFAD-album Alan was probably the only one with working dicipline in the band. Dave was high as a skyscrape on his heroine, Martin drank beer like camels drinks water..

Fletch has never claimed to be an amazing musician, although I'd wager he makes Toast Hawaii in a more creative way every day than you could manage. @jkjojk That is no coincidence :) DM at that time designed sounds by recording samples in the EMU-s, tweaking them, playing the sounds through guitar amps and other "modifiers", then re-recording the tweaked sound and putting it back in the keyboard again to play with. So the "atmosphere" of the sounds he played on the EMAX, is actually "in the sound". This is why you actually have the same "feel" to it :)

I admire this guy, such a brilliantly clever sound designer :D
