after i watched this video Tom is twelve years old, and has more insight to computers than many people three times his age, my insight is very open because the video is very good to give information
I miss his show and other shows that were on the TechTV channel network. It was a useful and helpful channel that really portrayed computers on a good IT level.
I like computers. I like to usually unplug somebody's keyboard or mouse at my school and watch them get all frustrated. Then they ask my for help or turn off the computer and log on a new one.
@MARMARR1 Why must people like you hate so much! Man leave the guy alone its not like you have to listen to him just go watch another video or do something with your life...
Yay! I'm twelve, too. It seems that every-one at my school is just plain dumb with computers. Let me just give you some examples: 'Hey, why isn't my computer starting up?' (power cord not connected), 'Oh my gosh, this computer-monitor-thingy is screwed' (VGA cable not connected). Or the most common excuse for invalid homeword,'But my computer crashed.' Ha, Bullshit!
i started by a macintrash oregon trail games i started by playing games and then i started tearing pc and macs apart thats how i learned everything plus :) google and youtube to understand what i didint know
One thing i dont like about this guy is why he has a youtube channel when he only ans questions on his site....basically youtube is just an advertisement for his site guys :) There are far more helpful people online that actually care about helping people with computer problems:)
i do the same thing. im 14 yrs old, and my dad does computers for a living, so ive always been interested in them, and i always look things up on google before i resort to asking him, and i can usually figure it out myself. (but it never hurts to ask if its a larger problem, rather than pulling your hair out for hours trying t get it lol.)
Hi, Chris, This is my biggest lack...tech ability...I made a note of your website. Now I know where to go for help. Thanks for the tips. It's nice to know where to find a Good Geek :-)
I'm 14 and I program PHP and code XHTML/CSS on websites designed in Photoshop, which I've been doing for over a year now. I also run my own Linux web server/World of Warcraft private server.
The new generation does seem to know a lot more at a young age. But a recent article on slashdot goes over a study done with 3000 students, to which they can spit out information, but can't really understand concepts.
That's nothing new. That's like, obvious as crap. Anyone with a brain knows that if they need to find information, then go look for it online, in a book or ask someone. But, then I guess there ARE a lot of lazy people out there.
this guys funny treats the obvious like it something he has never seen before any 12 year old could tell you the exact same thing. this video made me laugh
the best way to learn about computer problems is through experience. I've had my fair share of computer problems over the last 12 or so years, and as a result alot of the problems that my friends ask me for help with, i've already seen and most likely have an answer for it.
People ask me how I know so much about computers. Quite often I have no idea what's wrong with their machine; I'm just not afraid to find the problem rather than ask someone else to do it. Each problem solved is a lesson learnt for me, but unfortunately they still won't know what's wrong/how to fix it the next time (I try to explain, but when they've had no experience with what I'm talking about, it's lost on them).
See the problem with that is that the most common user does not want to learn. They just want their computer to work. People like you and I are intrigued by the complexity of the computer and enjoy figuring out the vast array of problems that come with it.
Others are not like that. We all have many different talents and skills. What I have found, as many will probabaly agree with, is that one of the most important skills a "geek/nerd" can have is the ability to communicate with the common user that knows enough to find the ON button, use the internet and use Microsoft Word.
I agree; I'm like that with cars. I don't want to muck about with it, I just want it to work and let someone else fix it... but I don't have multiple cars that go wrong every other day; if I did I'd probably spend a bit of time learning a thing or two.
thanks chris and tom for the info and vid. to Tom, I wish you all the best for your future as you are going to be a great guru and a success! Chris jr perhaps? anyways ciao
