My Dad works as a Fitter in Attymon Peat Co-Op(the clip above) where he has maintained this Turf Cutting Machine and other Machines in the bog. He has worked on all the machines in the bog for as long as i can remember and i am now 38 years of age. Well done Dad (Michael) Proud of you. Your son Ray Finnerty.
To many moving parts in that machine. To many thing that could break. I would settle for a ex120 and a hopper machine anyday. Never laid eyes on one of those machines before.
i saw a clip of a hitachi on its own cutting turf ( i.e no hopper) or it could have been the larger peat soda, but cant seem to find it now,,can anyone help,,, i would greatly appreciate any help ,,btw i will post a video of me driving one similar to this lilliput as soon if anyones interested
God I remember commenting on this before lol, Attymon peat co-op..i think thats what they call it harvest traditional turf sods commercially on the Old BNM site, they use the old loco's as well to haul the peat in from the bog, havent had a chance to see all the equipment they use buti reckon they would have some interesting machines, , BNM certainly has some great engineering minds.
This is an old Ex Board Na Mona 'Lilliput' Turf Machine, I have seen them on books but never seen one work until this. They were how Board Na Mona used to make turf before the advent of the Peat Briquettes.
You learn something every day. I ahve never seen turf cut like that before, all there is around my area is hopper turf. Is there a name on that method. That machine is some piece of engineering, is a home job?
