  • so its office!

  • it just went by your head.

    the sarcasm.

  • genius!

  • ahhaha..this is BRILLIANT man. how would one contact you to get some work done?

  • I love that you aren't afraid to show reality and grit! keep it up :)

  • excellent animation. Was it animated on paper and then scanned in or was it done on a tablet?

  • It was animated on paper and scanned. I did the backgrounds with a Cintiq in Photoshop, though.

  • also what program did you use. i like the depth of field you have goin on.

  • Well, like I said, Photoshop to create the BG's. I worked out the timing and whatnot using Digicel Fipbook. I colored using Bauhaus Mirage (which is now TVpaint). I composited in After Effects and edited with Sony Vegas.

  • one more question :) How did you create the depth of field while the animations were moving? was in done after effects or actual in tvpaint? and how? help please

  • Do you have a specific shot in mind?

If you're asking about distance from camera of characters, then the answer is both. I actually animated characters moving closer/further from camera and also cheated it in the compositing. Depends on the shot.

Or, if you're asking about the environments, that's just a mater of keeping foreground, middle ground, and background elements on separate layers. And then applying the correct amount of blur to show the relation to camera. That's done in AE.

  • You can do anythin/everything in After Effects.

  • Got ya thanx for reply. Im using toom boom mainly and i cant blur with that. The shot im working on has my main character in focus until he looks at an object in the near distance. I hav my animation complete in toon boom but having trouble exporting it in png so that my character has no background when its in after effects....??

  • One thing that I've done in a situation where I can't export with an alpha channel (and I don't know toonboom very well) is to put a highly saturated flat color behind the image. Maybe a bright green. And in AE use the Chroma Key and key out that color. Like a green screen. You want to use a color that isn't present anywhere in the element (ie, character).

Then (I usually use Gaussian Blur) just set the keys so the character goes from not-blurry to blurry and vice versa for the object.

  • you genius!! Thanx for the help. appreciate it.

  • Glad to help. Good luck!

  • You better win.

  • Win What?

    Is it another contest?

  • Is that aftereffects plus scanned images? Looks very good, especially for a student work.

  • way to go

  • holy crap dude. that was pretty amazing.
