shucks i give all the credit for just using that old style camera.... but seriously every one has a gift and through photography it gives each one of us the independent expression to do so........ i had to learn that from my wife who always stressed that not every photographer is the same simple as that!
he is a total snapshot photographer, not my taste but i can see the artistic value of his photos. I think everyone having a camera simply means more artist by chance.
I mean chance art. blame the lomo hipster craze but I see raw artistic value in these photos. I prefer sharp interesting photos and subjects that tell years of stories. these photos to me are like billboards we see while we drive. cool for the moment and then quickly forgotten. just my opinion.
it's a shame that image quality isn't a high priority for this photographer, the images that arn't full of interesting narrative won't be successful when ignoring formal variations.
This guy is an asspie, and I think he has no talent. He just takes pictures of everything which catches his eye for a second and hopes they come out interesting.
I dig the idea but i don't like David's pictures. It's just too random and meaningless. I also stumbled on this guy: Major Deegan, he does the same thing but his photo's are excellent!
These are just snapshots. ie. besides some rare exceptions, not something that will put money in your pocket. It doesn't mean it's not photography, just not considered a professional standard.
To each its own. Another man's meat is another man's poison. Its normal pic to me but at least he make an effort to take pictures and be happy abt it.
i am from the one's who don't like the idea of every one being a photographer ..there is mediocrity in most people work and i think you have to strive to look and to catch something which truly makes a great picture. That's why not everybody is like people back in magnum .
It's funny reading the comments of all these uncultured idiots. It's almost as enjoyable as the video. I don't take these types of photographs, but I am a photographer, and I get the fine art appeal of finding interest in the ordinary. Look at photographers like Jeff Mermelstein or William Eggelston, or other artists like Duchamp. When you say "I don't get this, it's crap," you're telling everyone else how little you understand. You sound dumb. Take an art appreciation class or something.
WHAT! you just compared this guy to Mermelstein. are you kidding me.
these images are not special. EVERYone in art school takes these pictures. because they think its special and different. ugh, uncultured? maybe YOU should campare the photos of mermelstein and eggelston vs. this guys and tell me any similarities. there is thought and wit behind them and a great sense of aesthetic to boot.
@siuleung42 you're reading way too far into these. duchamp was an artist. this guy is an annoying hipster. i don't hate it because my tastes are too simple, i hate it because it's fucking hipster bullshit. how could you possibly compare it to duchamp?
WOW, i have never seen anything as ingenious as this! pure genius: taking photographs of leftover products from everyday life, placing that in artistic context in which the process is so personal yet so intriguing to anyone. I can not think of anyone else that has ever done it in this manner. I love it. Is this an interview of some sort?
Yep, I guess they missed the last few seconds of the video when he mentions that some people hate that everyone's an artist.
Guess what folks, art and craft are different things, mutually intertwined. For every Horvitz making art with zero craft, there's a rich amateur making master craftworks with zero art.
Exceptionally simple and outstandingly artistic. This shows a real talent for SP, also shows you don't really need to carry 50 lbs of heavy photographic equipment, meant for professionals while you are only an amateur HAVING FUN PHOTOGRAPHING whatever calls your attention.
some people hate that... i don't :-)

What a load of crap. OK photos to keep for yourself, but not good enough for making an almost 4 minutes long youtube video about it.

agreed with seals. these shots are... meaningless, really.

Mystery, irony, composition, the essence of a moment in time. These are the elements of a worthy image. Thank goodness we all see things differently.

When some people go to a modern art exhibit, they look at it and say, "That's not art! I could make that!"
And that's the point.
This guy takes crappy cameras and takes pictures of wet napkins- but he's an artist, and it's a cool message to everyone that you can be one too.
