He was mostly played on jazz stations such as 94.7 the wave in L.A. or other soft rock stations. What a wonderful voice!

All I can say is that Caldwell must have had some terrible agents. The guys voice is just awesome. I'd never heard of him until I heard "What You Won't Do" on the radio a couple of days ago - unbelievable!!

I think part of the problem is how he was originally marketed -- his management didn't want anyone to know that he was White so he'd get play on the R&B stations -- that's why all of the older album covers are pop art silhouettes -- so obviously that limited the exposure he could get. He did eventually start touring but I'm not sure how he managed to fall through the cracks; maybe he didn't get enough "crossover" exposure on standard pop and top 40 stations.

They probably wanted to do the same thing with Teena Marie but didn't but then again she I assume was probably on a different label.

I know she can't sing but because of the usage of synths and the style of the Holiday song back in the early 80s, it sounded a lot like an Evelyn Champagne King song or something to them.

So they didn't want to put Madonna's pic on her first album cover at all, and of course she argued with them after that, she's always been an image-conscious woman after all.

You too? That's my same sentiment. I wondered why I never heard of him until recently. I think the "industry" screwed him over. They'll promote others with a mere fraction of talent, yet ignore Caldwell.

Yes, Bobby Caldwell IS the most underrated artist ever. Please please go and buy his CD's (nope, I'm not his mother or related in any way *LOL*). He's been performing and recording continuously for years and yet we rarely hear of him. One of his latest CD's is "Perfect Island Nights" and I love every song on it... we own almost all his cd's. We just started visiting YouTube and are so happy that we can see him performing after years of just listening (I saw him on TV just TWICE in 20 years!!)
