Finally, when shes grown up and has a job, she is usually too busy to go home to vist him. When she finally can vist him, she tells him not to come pick her up because she has bought a car and is going to drive the car home.

Is it possible that just maybe he would have felt disrespected if she asked him to ride in the car with her, treating him as though he was too old to do something? Being the granddaughter of an old man like the one in the video, I am quiet sure that is exactly how he would feel. So instead of disrespecting him and making him ride in the car with her, she's showing great respect, and is helping him preserve the pride he's greatly earned.
