  • It was a cool show but the actual stage inside was small and dark at night (needed more lights).

  • I thought I would write an article called SIDESHOW WARS 2009, based on having two sideshows at Coney Island this Summer. Based on many comments posted here, I thought I would start with Outside Talkers, MORIARTY Versus BAKER.

I decided to take a poll at the last Sideshow Convention in Wilkes Barre. Sadly, the story was not to be. While many said Baker was a brilliant INSIDE performer and a legendary OUTSIDE talker, nobody interviewed had ever heard of Mr. Moriarty. Sigh!

  • these posts get more ridiculous by the minute...i attended the show several times to see an intoxicated marlow dropping cards and abusing fellow members in front of an aghast audience. Having personally spoken to him,Mr. Strong has high regard for Chris, money talks, as for the dillusional marlow, his stint at the St. Genaro feast was a huge success! (closing shop after 2 days of embarassment)

  • Hey Folks, Please lets respect the privacy of those in the video and not disclose their personal issues!

And FYI Scott, Ruby Rodriguez never worked with or even knew Chris, so I severely doubt that she had any observations about him. Your information is misinformed.

  • Sorry! My colleague, Damon, got that misinformed info, and I don't know to whom he spoke. He thought it was Ruby, but it was some woman with vampire teeth. If ever in Baltimore, you must do my radio show!

  • I spoke with Mystic Marlowe, the magician from Jon Strong's show. Baker would come around to their show a couple of times a week because he was coaching a couple of acts on the inside, not to watch Moriarty, who was hated by the entire cast for being a pushy, obnoxious know-it-all and who Strong himself called "an asshole."

  • Wow! Lots of comments...

I've known tons of talkers over the years. We've all had our highs and lows. I know Scott Baker and I know Chris Moriarity, and I know both of them to be great artists on the bally stage. No talker can always turn a successful tip, but both of those men have certainly turned their share.

Personally, I would pass on the "loving hand of God" bit in here, but Chris really gets 'em in. The sign is a great prop.

  • Some of these comments are outlandish! Anyone that has seen Scott Baker work knows what a true talent he is. I've seen him turn the tip and get 90%. Consistantly! I've watched Moriarity work. I think he got 10% of his tip.

  • Zippy- Even the greats can blank on the bally. Trust me, Chris can rock it.

  • this craft is very difficult to attempt to replicate, you are born with this talent, you either have it or you don't, Moriarty is in the same league as Bobby Reynolds or John Bradshaw- a premier and profitable league with a talent Scott Baker unfortunately just wasn't born with.

  • Both Bobby Reynolds and Ward Hall have declared Baker the best in the business. The movie about him is amazing.

I've seen him. I've heard him. He mobs the place. He wouldn't steal from anyone. He has no need. Chris Moriarty's work is good, but journeyman.

  • Baker was great on my late-night radio show. He has Broadway and Las Vegas background, and really packs a wallop at Coney. People calling into my show couldn't get enough of him. I've never heard a soul say anything bad about the guy.

  • Just did my research. You can read rave reviews of Scott Baker's Ballys at Sideshow by the Seashore from James Taylor and Tyler Fyre in Shocked and Amazed.

  • i heard the seashore talker, Scott Baker, would wander by this show drunk late night obviously observing the talents of this guy and attempt to replicate what he does, but anyone who know the business knows its not about goofy voices and catchy phrases, it's about pitching and selling and this guy is the best in the business,i heard he was at least doubling jon strongs sales!!!

  • this guy is amazing!!! he makes that drunken loser in front of Sideshows by the Seashore look like an amateur!!!

  • This talker may be amazing, I've never had the opportunity to see him work so I can't say for sure, but this comment is pretty low and uncalled for.

  • that dude at Sideshows By The Seashore is known as the best in the business and is a Coney Island legend, loved by all...

  • Chris Moriarty was fired from Sideshows by the Seashore when it was up on the Boardwalk, and the current guy was brought in. Their current outside talker is the subject of an award-winning documentary called BALLY MASTER.

  • This guy is one of the worst talkers I have ever heard.

  • A great bally from a master. This is wonderful!

  • They allow that guy to get that close to children?

  • 10+++ i love it, this is a true tip getting turned, lmfao this is great.

  • He doesn't turn the tip, the tip is leaving.
