just as some nutjobs claim to be choosing to wear all-black face-hiding medieval leper outfits, she is exercising her right to choose not to.
stone-age saudi's dont have a monopoly on telling people what to..or what not to wear.
some muslims ladies dont like going round with the equivalent of a bag over their heads.
also, many modern muslims think that if a man is turned on by how a woman looks, then he ought to controll himself rather than make that woman's beauty invisible.
The Quran explains that women MUST cover, and Rasulullah (saw) explains WHAT women must cover, and the Sahabah, the greatest of the Muslims, DEMOSTRATE what women must cover.
ALSO
Quran doesnt tell you how to pray, either?? or a lot of other things..That was the basic reason of sending a prophet with the book So that he can practically performs what Allah has ordered in Quran..
Please get educated about the topic instead of criticizing...
Well tell the government of Turkey, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia to change their laws and require women to wear hijab....I am interested if they will listen to you.
@samlarsenwrites You cant force it on people... because in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia.. they got other religions to.. So if say i do tell their government to change their laws... it would be unfair to the ones that are non-muslims... andd Islam all together doesnt allow to force what islamic teachings on people who are not muslims.....
praise the lesbians and the homosexuals!! amen. praise the dissenters and 'kafirs'! amen. praise the free thinkers! amen. praise the heretics! amen. and for all the 'righteous' religious petty miserables that envy the freedom we enjoy - go to read your 'HOLY' texts and keep envy our freedoms!!!
but what they receive in 'Athab al qabar' or torture of the grave thats supposed to cleanse the human soul before judgement day is that every hair turns into a snake and gnaws your flesh.
pretty macabre huh?!
anyways...im an ex muslim so i dont believe in all that bullshit. its all stuff i learned as a kid. :)
Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allâh, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allâh and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islâm) among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
As stated in the Quran itself, the goal of Islam is world conquest on Allah's behalf and the enslavement or destruction of all who refuse to submit to Muhammad's New World Order.
Irshad is a Zionist supported agitator - look in the cover of her book and see who her publisher is. She is part of the media campaign to smear islam; unfortunately she is too ignorant to understand the difference between the religion of islam and the culturals that practice it. p.s. I have told her this personally, and she had nothing to say when I pointed out her publisher.
And Im sure you have a black outfit with and orange armband with a swastika in your closet somewhere. Last time I checked my history there was a nation of Israel never a nation of Palestine only a district in the Ottoman Empire called palestine. And I think the Arab states have done more harm to the Palestinians than the Israelis ever did.
You must be a jew to confusion anti-simetic with anti-zionist or ignorant to the difference. Because one does not support the exiling of a people from their land because of what Christians in Germany did does not mean one is anti-jew, just anti-zionist. Stand up be a man, give your land/home to the Palestinians they way the 'gave' it to the Jews. Ignorance like yours is what has caused America into its black hole.
To be a true believer in Islam, there is some basic tenets need to be followed. "This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah;". Quran 02:02
"Faith without Fear" was aired on the same segment with Richard Parle, a likud neo-con. If anyone has a desire to vice for truth, including Irshad, need to aquire knowledge about Quran & prophetic profecies.
So not wearing the veil doesn't automatically mean the person is not Muslim. So appearance is only one tenant of Islam (veil). But I hope no body judges "Irshad Manji" based on just appearance (i.e. wearing or not wearing the veil). I hope Muslims don't always judge other Muslims. There are many more things about Islam and not just the veil
I agree with you. Veil isn't even a fundamental part of islam and the Quran does not order women to wear it. It only says dress modestly but does not say cover your heads. And covering your face is definitely not mandatory

no hun...the islam specifically states 'awra' the women is everything but her face and hands and 'awra' the man is the space between his naval and knees. therefore a woman should cover completely including her head. it says so in the quraan and the punishment of women who dont cover their hair is to be hang by their hair in hell to be burned by fire (thats the punishment they receive after judgement day).
The verses which speak of this subject in the Quran use the Arabic word Khimaar which is translated into English as veil. Now a veil, lets say a wedding veil or funeral veil cover the head, the neck, and chest. From a linguistic point of view, a khimaar is such a cover according to the Arabic language. So from this word we know what to cover. The details of the cover are from the sunnah, just like the details of praying, fasting, etc
@someone528 and if you want to know more.. let me know.... i'd show you the proof and alll... and infact if your jew or christian.. you should wear one to since it says in both of ur books...
humans are just too quick to jump and criticize...
@someone528 Can u tell me what is the dress what kind of dress you wear.. Just tell me then i will reply to you reagrding close the body and heads covers.
@amareto35 Wow. That was 3 years ago, I dont even remember writing it. anyway what I wrote regarding the Quran.. thats true whether its hair or head, the Quran doesn't order women to cover it. On the other hand, if a woman does that it is good for her.
@amareto35 I really dont feel like arguing, i dont even feel so strongly about it anymore. i'm pro hijab, dont get me wrong. It is valued and respected, but I dont think it is required. And how can I find a verse of something i think is not mentioned, you should find the verse and show me so I can change my mind lol.
@someone528 I should find the verse? Remember, I am not the one who is spreading something that I don't know...If you want to be educated, I will educate you..But please, don't talk about something that you don't understand, you will embarrass yourself...
@amareto35 Okay use common sense. How do you find something that is not there? I am not claiming to know everything about islam, I am not even close to that and if I make any mistake I hope Allah forgives me. But back when I wrote that first comment, I was doing research regarding this issue and I did not find any evidence in the Quran that says you must cover your hair. Wouldn't it make more sense if you showed me the verse that says this if it is there??
@someone528 Read Surat Ahzab. page 418, verse 59. If you're Muslim, please be VERY carefull what you say about the holly Qur'an, because when you stand infront of your creator this notion "it wasn't there" won't work...
@amareto35 did you spam me? seriously? I'm not using saying that anything that isn't there, we can do. But we were given logic for a reason. Now back off. Also learn to spell.
@amareto35 And since I know that if you keep replying, I will keep replying.. even though I do not use this account anymore, I'm gonna go ahead and deactivate it. I hate people who are always trying to pick a fight with someone online.
@amareto35 Also, why would I be embarrassed? If you believe you are so educated, then please enlighten me. It will be good for both of us. Theres no need to attack me.
many religions play on fear - Christianity as well as when religion is used as a means of control.
