I think everyone will agree with me when they say that this lesson is BY FAR the most valuable lesson on jazz that you've uploaded since you started these videoes. Are you going to put this lesson down in the book you're working on?
wow - just amazing. this has given me so many ideas for the shed! i totally agree with what you say below by the way - don't listen to that comment (i'm sure you didn't!) I just love how you are so creative with patterns - perfect! what a sound as well! i'd love to know what specific exercises you've used to develop that fluency - unfortunately i think i already know (a lot of hard work!) Thanks again!
Hi Shawn - thanks a lot for these great videos. I'm down here in Philadelphia snowed in and practicing. Your diminished patterns with the fourth incorporated is giving me some fun stuff to work on. Keep on posting!
Thanks Shawn, this is awesome stuff. Where can we buy it transcribed from you? And please don't even waste your time with negative no-nothings who post!
thanks for the insight! I am a self taught saxophone player living in japan. I am trying to learn as much as i can, in my respect and appreciation for the art that is most commonly known as jazz. I have some videos posted of me playing. If you can, please look at them and help me out. I know that i have a lot to learn and I am willing. I really wish that I could study under you.
Could you tell me what's the first pattern that your doing? I'll apriciated. Wish to play like you one, to have the knowledge that you have, keep posting more videos please. Thanks
I would say that part of the reason that there is a smaller jazz audience now is because of music critics and laymen that voice their ignorance through the judgment of another person's artistic expression. This music is not for everyone.
Hmmm... I'm not sure what you are referring to. There is a difference between practicing and performing. These lessons are intended for people that are trying to improve their overall musicianship. It takes a real musicianship to take any sophisticated harmonic concept and play it in a way that does not alienate the listener.
any musical thoughts or combinations can become a pattern!
