Strangely enough, i think this is the scene that bought the film from very good to amazing. I loved this film, but my bloody sister has nicked my DVD!
I bought the film yesterday & watched it today. It's a good film, funny in parts, touching, and emotional. And I cried loads when I saw this scene - thanks to Will's tears again. The other touching scene was when he read the whole book on the bus, then told Ms Eiffel that she had to finish the book..... that got me again!
OMG. I never knew Will Ferrell could act like this! This clip made me cry so much, especially when I saw Will's tears. I've not heard of this film before, must try to get it as from the clips I've seen it looks very good.
@OTimeMasterXO I think the professor was a little off. on purpose. because i think him himself would die for that book. so he thought it was some great honor. but will wasnt a huge literary nut like him. so will an all the normal people would be like wtf.
@OTimeMasterXO Its also, not because of JUST the book, His reasoning is basically this. How would you rather die, A Beautiful, young death. Or die of old age. Not only, after reading the outline; he agreed and accepted his fate. The professor didnt want him to die ethier. But like he says "Its the nature of all tradegies, and the story will live on forever"
@MrJontheknight Yes but its the cold nature of Hoffman's delivery. The fact is that i honestly don't think he sees Ferrel's character as a person anymore, just as a charactter. This is a man's life that he wants to destroy for a bestseller. I really do not agree with that.
did anyone else hear the news say Dustin Hoffman passed away??? I could've sworn that's what they said, but I found out it was the real life 'rainman' that passed away... Not Dustin Hoffman.
Fuck this movie is amazing, I owned it but lost it over a year ago I really want to watch the whole thing again... Will Ferrell is too great in this I would love to see him do more movies like this.
For years I dismissed this film because I thought it looked terrible - I've never been so happy to be proved wrong! This is an amazing film!

I'm sorry but i could never really connect to or understand the professor's character in this.
Wanting Harold to die just so that a book would be good is just not human.

are those real tears?

Might be, Will Ferrel is a pretty good actor.
People tend to see some of his other films and forget that.

He should do more films like this ^_~

@Squirrel36 He seriously should. He's got to get out of this...addiction if you will...and go to where his true talents manifest.

me too, i think its because the really good acting, or the feeling of a good guy who has to die.

@Squirrel36 It is a very sad and tear inducing scene that is beautifully shot and acted. I openly wept the first time I saw it.
