  • dragonflies are the ultimate insect hunter, but having no sting are pretty useless in a fight(what people think are stingers is actually breeding apparatus)

  • 1. This is not a bee, it looks like a wasp.

    2. Dragonflies can't sting. They have powerful jaws though.

Both are hunters. Wasps and dragonflies hunt other insects for food. I wonder who started the attack? D:

  • Hahaa the camera man got scared when the bee started flying

  • the dragonfly is trying to sting it and yes i can sting. it eather bites or stings.

  • NOOO!!!!!! DRAGO!!!!! D:

  • That was a hornet, bees only attack in self defence and a bee can only sting once as a hornet will sting multiple times to kill prey.

  • dragonfly have nastyy bites, they can defend themselves sometimes

  • That isn't a bee, it is a yellow jacket or some kind of wasp family.

  • Dragonflies feed on wasps, I guess in this case things did not go according to plan.

  • the bee didn't only own the dragon fly it own'd yout to lol

  • thats not a bee, thats a wasp !!!

  • the bee is like : HOW DARE YOU MAKE SEXUAL ADVANCES TOWRDS THE QUEEN!!!!!!

  • 5. Wasp do also feed on other insects (but take sometimes also sweets and meat..)

Therefore the reason, that the dragonfly is attacked by the wasp could be for defense of the waspnest, but also just serving as food.

    6. It is true, that this video is very shaky - but the problem is, that those things often happen, when you dont have a tripod with you.

But there are two very interesting ways to enhance it.

    a) a cheap "stringpod", which means, that if you connect a string to a screw,...

  • Best wishes!

    Steve

  • ...I wanted to sent the link to a youtubeclip, but it is not accepted here.

Therefore just google for "homemade image stabilizer" in youtube.

    b) even a terribly shaked already taken video can be enhanced with

virtual dub (freeware) and the plugin filter "deshaker" from gunnar thalin.

Just google for it. It is really fascinating.

    All the best

    Steve

  • Hello friends,

I want to answer some question.

    1. Dragonfly cannot sting. They can catch other insects in flight with their legbasket and then eat them.

    2. The other insects seems to me, not a bee, but a wasp or a hornet.

    3. It is true, that in mammal skin, bees normally only can sting once. Often their stingmachine stays stuck in the flexible skin of a mammal.

    4. But in the "skin" of insects, bees can sting often. This is, because the skin of insects is not flexible.

  • why would a bee do that it dies after it stings ,,,is there a hive near by ?

  • dragonflies actually have some of the most eyes (i think the most ) of any insect, somewhere around 30,000

its like that because they are one of the top predators of insects so they need all those eyes to spot lots of other bugs and any incoming danger

plus they like to eat mosquitoes and its kindda funny but if a dragonfly ever gets put on its back it cant get back up by itself

  • It was a red footed cannibal fly.

  • well that's one way to enforce a no fly zone....

  • try to keep the camera still

  • yo what kind of bee is that i didnt know bees would just attack other bugs

  • poor dragonfly

  • oh no! i love dragonflies! and that was a wasp not a bee. you should have saved the dragonfly but then again the wasp would have come after you so idk. dragonflies don't have stingers and their bit isn't much for defense. that wasp is a mean bully.

  • @CloudWatcherX save the dragonfly? what for? this is nature ok?!

  • man i was at work and a co-worker and i witnesses this wasp make a straight attack on a huge dragonfly a couple of seconds later the wasp flew away leaving a decapatated dragon fly behind, body still twitching. it was bad ass

  • That wasnt a bee....Bees can only sting one time and then they die. That was a wasp or a yellow jacket.

  • haha soon as the bee took of u flipped shit xD

  • Yo dude...what the hell is with the camera? You got some jittery ass hands dude...If you must FOCUS and use a tripod IMO

  • @Incredibadder jittery xD

  • I've always wondered if dragonflies bite or sting people because sometimes at the park there is a swarm of brown dragonflies flying about?

  • ahhh perfect filming there mate, thanks! i like it, but i prefer spider predators

  • the wasp gives up and fuckin flies away lol

  • can u not keep the camera steady for 5 seconds?

  • @sz4r im not the guy who filmed but why dont you try filming something really small with a small handeld camera zoomed in while being steady, i dare you xD

  • You got parkizon or something?

  • thats a wasp.

yellowjacket or whatever u guys call them :)

    called "european wasps" in australia

  • why the dragonfly why!?!?!?! =(

  • I saw this exact same thing in my backyard the other day. Can a dragonfly defend itself? I didnt know if they had stingers on the tails or not.

I saw a baby bumble bee and appeared to be winning too heh. I got too close and the battle stopped so I guess I spared the dragonfly haha.

  • i was wondering the same thing, and i dont know if they can defend themself. im pretty sure someone who commented knows.

  • I don't think so. They eat mosquitoes and blackflies, but that's about it.

  • An adult dragonfly just eats things, really. They've got powerful jaws.

And this probably wasn't a bee, it's far too large and aggressive.

  • @noddyim @brown55061 They (dragonflies) can actually produce a fairly mild bite. The bite isn't nearly as painful as when they are nymphs.

  • Yeah they can they are predators in the bug world Wiki it.

  • @oh no what did beedral do to yanmega!?!?!?! lolz

  • @brown55061 dragonflies can bite pretty hard sometimes

  • most bees, and wasp will get agressive in september, they hunt for smaller bug and fly to eat.. i seen one once pick a spider out of its web..

  • .. I´m not sure that`s a wesp.. the color looks more like a bee for me. Maybe the bee just defense itself, not "attacking" the dragonfly.

  • that was a wasp

  • i got dizzy from the camera moving

  • @sumniceguy

    .. me too ;)

  • uauuuu

  • I would have steped on them as soon as I got that way the bee would be dead and the dragonfly would put out of its misery

  • It's a hornet or wasp, as others have said. Not a bee. Bees are not carnivorous. It is, however a poor dragonfly on the receiving end, displaying a nice evolutionary defense mechanism - tries to appear that it is about to sting by arching its abdomen. Unfortunately for the dragonfly, it can only ever be a warning, as a dragonfly's only real defense is its moouthparts, which as a throwback from its larval stage, can give a non-toxic nip. Poor bugger is doomed!

  • its a wasp.

  • the dragonfly wasn't being attacked durrr... the bee was simpally tring to mount it ... can't u see !?!?!?!?! lol

  • u stupid fuck why didn't u help him dragonflies are way better....

  • good point. and i dont know.

  • You let the dragonfly DIE ..YOU BASTARD!!! Darn you! Darn you all to HECK!! LOL XD

  • @17matko17 this is the nature...

  • @17matko17 wtf?? you're the fucking stupid i migh add.

  • @17matko17 because this is nature you moron.

  • @17matko17 how do you help?

  • HA HA HA! YOUR SCARED OF A HORNET!

  • Man it is not a bee (a bee does not hunt!) it s an hornet

  • my first hornet sting i thought whouldnt hurt but how fucking wrong i was that shit stung for a few mins. what happend to bees i never see them only wasps now.

  • There was a mite of some sort that was killing off the European honey bees.

    Damn near wiped them out.

  • fuck you

  • Lol i fricken burned a wasp nest.Poured alchahol on a piece of wood and hoisted it up .

  • ahahah you pussy, you got scared when the bee flew hahahahahah

  • hold the camera still jackass

  • you should've knocked the wasp off the dragonfly, wasps are evil

  • sorry, yes tis a hornet cuz they're only social wasps big enough to take a dragon fly, all the smaller ones get eaten =)

  • yeah it looks like a hornet. i was outside playing with cars (ie other videos) and that dragonfly fell out of the sky. I filmed it all confused then ran away like a pussy.

  • Lol hornets aren't that bad (except the giant Asian ones), you can actually get them feeding from your hand if they're on their own and far enough from the nest, but if you ever find a nest leave it well alone, 500 defensive hornets is not a pretty sight

  • @noddyim LOL

  • That's not a bee you retard lol tis a large wasp (possibly a hornet but your jiggling the camera so much tis hard to tell) Bees never attack and eat other insects, they only fight in defense of the hive.

  • Your very good it know that.

  • FIRST TEEHEE
