President Carter got the peace prize too. You know Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize twelve days after taking office. Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.

Ahh, you don't give the politicians enough credit..This was an obvious "trial balloon", sent out by the politicos to float the option of killing all dissent by using racism as a defense. What perfect person to deliver it than a former President, who can just be discounted as crazy, noone will really attack him for the statements. Once the polls came in, Gibbs just denies any involvement and they'll move on to the next tactic. Plausible deniability..:)

A good-enough answer, only because I'm not seeing any evidence that wayward inner-city youth who are Black are getting their acts together based on Obama as a positive role model. (Hoped I would, but... alas.)

Think Carter is right in so far as racism, or more specifically, racism-in-deep-denial, is a major motivation for some individuals... who may differ on legitimate policy grounds, but who are frantically livid with rage rather than being mildly upset. The difference is SOMEthing.
