i just started taking formal lessons and i love it, i'm working on making beautiful legato strokes...every bass player knows how tedious this is haha, but damn...i even know but the bow isn't supposed to go on a downward angle :/

That is not spiccato, there's no bouncing going on in what he's doing. He's just lifting the bow in between bow strokes. Expert village just sucks at music lessons.
