  • you Mormons like dick Cheney why?

  • It is a private university run by a church that believes the United States Constitution is a divinely-inspired document, but you can see there is a problem with some of the LDS leadership. Just like Ralph Nader (double agent ego maniac), there are a few Illuminati plants pretending to be good folk within LDS too. You will know them by their deeds.

  • My teacher is the lady at 1:20. I remember the day of the protest. She was my rhetoric teacher and went off on a one-hour rant about standing up for what you believe in and using rhetoric in arguments. She then went straightway from class to the protest. She was definitely one of my favorite teachers. She spoke her mind.

  • You know what I find really funny is that these people LET the authorities take their signs. You obviously don't believe in what your signs are saying if you just hand them over to someone...

  • @TheYAHnitarian <<<------- Said "spread your propaganda lies elsewhere, you will have no speech here." ;-) You fail. I am free to speak. Seems your nothing but a muslim in sheep clothing.

I said "American students are ignorant and lazy." in response to them protesting for palestine at American Universities. And so they are. Too lazy to search for the truth and too ignorant to realize the truth when they see it.

  • I take back what I said in my previous comments. Most if not all of these students pay tithing and they have a right to protest and have a say in what goes on at the university. It's very dangerous for the Mormon faith to silence people. They're trying to spread the word of their religion and at the same time are trying to silence people that disagree with them in any way. It's a very contradictory\ policy. Good for those protesting students. Did they actually get Ralph Nader to speak for them?

  • My room mate at BYU-Idaho had already been accepted to grad school when the long arm of the honor code came down hard on him. Him and I had had 2 girls over one night and they ratted on us. There was no proof and we knew that, so we denied it to the honor code administrators. Nonetheless, the administrators saw the two girls' word as enough evidence to take grad school away from my room mate and delay his life for a year. Do anyone think he would have a case in court?

  • @tpstrat14 No case in court. Your room mate broke honor code rules. I know that before he was accepted at BYU, he had to read the honor code and sign it, signifying that he would obey it. He didn't obey it, so now he's paying the price. Welcome to life.

  • As a Cheney supporter and a contented BYU student, I know some of you may feel the school was under attack by outsiders and malcontents... but, stop and think. There was little benefit to anybody in gathering up people's signs. I'm sure if decision makers looked back today, they could appreciate the sense of inequity. There's no need for an institution to estrange people with manageable concerns, and merely insisting that "it's a private school" entirely ignores those concerns. D&C 121:37, 41.

  • @evolutionsolutionco hey thx for correctin my grammar nothin gets past you, oh and by the way, even if u did go to byu and u really really hated it, u could have transfered stop blaming byu for your crappy life

  • Go to the store and make a new sign and put it up on your wall to remember your great accomplishment. Who cares. What the Hell is the matter with you guys?

  • The protesters are demanding their rights while trying to deny BYU its rights.

  • No coffee, cigarettes, or sex? What is wrong with these crazy religious nuts? How about you live your life for you and not how other people think you should live. I just dont get it. You people are gonna be pissed wen u live your entire life like this in hopes to get to some pearly gates or whatever ur paticular religion offers you wen u die. And you find out it was all bs n you just rot in the ground.

  • Brigham Young was a whoremonger.

  • GO UTES! :)

  • This is sooo not surprising. I was at BYU some time ago, and I had bit of a rep with the administration there. I was pretty good at pissing them off at times because I walked the line with the "ridiculous" rules. I'm conservative, and I disagree with how they handled this. Just because they have the right to shut it down doesn't mean they should. And who's the stay puffed guy in the suite? Sorry, but I'm not intimidated. One swift kick would be all it takes. ;)

  • HAHAHAHAHA free speech zone? That's messed up.

  • You sign a contract where you promise you won't drink coffee, caffeine, won't have sex and follow a dress code ....did you really expect free speech? BYU is a school where mormons and morons meet and they get married after 2 dates, returned missionaries are considered superior beings.....it's just ridiculous.

  • Bush was for free speech?!? LOL!!! NO administration before or since went out of their way to MUZZLE CRITICS! BushCo went so far to leak the identity of a Iraq critic's CIA agent wife! A federal crime! LOL!! Valerie Plame is HOT too! Palin looks like a HAG next to Valerie Plame! ROTFLMFAO!!!

  • ok first of all. ALL private university's can do what ever they want cause they are not funded by state or federal gov. but if they were like the rest of the university which are public then ya the students should bitch but byu is not so case closed.

  • Girls only like protesting to get attention. Shut up and stop being drama queens.

  • YAY BYU! lol at the "scared" protesters.

  • This is a joke. I don't care if it's a private university. The University is a joke for one reason, it's owned by the LDS and I don't care the LDS is not above the consitution of the United States.. Everyone has a free right to speak their mind... Another reason why the LDS is a serious joke.

  • protesting is annoying. go away

  • What lame people, how do you do a peaceful demonstration on a private campus? Please leave the campus alone, you don't need to be bothering busy students

  • All the school staff in this video were total dicks. Esp the guy that claimed his identity was not relevant. What a dumb fuck, so then the message is clear, I can walk onto the BYU campus and claim to be part of the staff and do whatever the fuck I want. Lame. And who is the fat fuck walking around taking signs from the students?

  • I'm shocked by the rudeness of that Q&A speaker, I must say what an "a**hole"! Completely disregarded his question and comment like he didn't deserve a real and respectful answer. I'd just go to a different school, screw him! Yes they can regulate as they please but what kind of school disregards and doesn't support free speech? A school I'd not continue attending.

  • Yah byu is a private university but thay are still in the usa for as far as i know anyone in the us have all rights but of course mormons are fucked in the head.

  • The Mormon Church is the most disgusting organization on the face of the earth, and it's every bit as corrupt as any other money grubbing, usery, slavery institution on the face of the earth. I wish people would see religion for what it is, total brain washing bullshit designed to make you a slave. If any of this shit was real, Jesus surely would have returned by now don't ya think?

  • Whitrolf bigotry

  • Its a private University, you pay less than almost every university out there and receive a superior education. Quit complaining or transfer.

  • Free Speach "Zone"?

Right next to the Right to Vote Zone, ha.

In the middle of the, losing my country zone,

In the vast sea of, I'm a fluoride drugged coward zone.

  • So sad that physical intimidation is required at Mormon university.... but then again, this is organized religion and we all know how corrupt that is.

  • Private university that admits students who receive federal funding from Pell Grants.

  • Mormons hate free speech. I know. My entire family and most my friends are Mormon. They seriously believe that "When the Prophet speaks, the thinking has been done."

  • You are wrong. We are taught to question everything, but unless you did any form of research you wouldn't know that.

  • this video shows SO MANY reasons why you should not go to BYU. Friends do not let friends go to BYU.

  • I honestly will feel I have failed as a parent if my children choose to go to BYU.

  • Comment removed

  • @tompinter I am LDS. My entire family has been well educated in public universities. Trust me, I'd much rather have my kid go anywhere but BYU, why, because I love academic freedom, something which DOES NOT exist at BYU. Also, it's not like you get extra points in heaven for going to BYU versus going to a university where you have academic freedom AND can have a Diet Coke.

  • @Matt007b please share this opinion with everyone you know. I want my 3 little boys to be able to get into BYU, but there is way too much competition to get in. I love when people bash BYU because I believe it is positively related to my boys chances of acceptance. I'm completely serious.

  • @tompinter well some education is better than no education and if that's really their goals in life then for sure they should try to get into BYU. So I hope for your sake they do get in. Good luck! (sorry I still can't stand BYU at all.. )

  • Shit like this drove me crazy when I went to BYU. The honor code..blah..blah..blah.. great academic experience but I hated the student body.

  • Comment removed

  • @tompinter "I can tell your not an active member" Are you serious?! Guess everyone who goes and went to BYU are Mormons huh...Brilliant assumption. Thanks for the Sunday school lesson Peter Priesthood. Guess I should just fall in line with the rest of you sheep. How's this for reaching in the gutter....Go stick your head up Monson's Ass you self righeous prick.

  • @evolutionsolutionco you dont know what your talking about if u go to byu and your not morman you still have to agree to abide by the rules u dont know anything about byu or morman so y r u here

  • @StdsRbop1 um yeah ok there boss. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. There isn't any freedom of speech at BYU. That's my entire point. Freedom of speech only exists within the realm of what "THE CHURCH" deems acceptable. If you want to have blinders on to the world then that's your decision. And yes, I know a lot about BYU as I graduated from there. Oh, and btw..."MORMAN" is spelled MORMON you jackass. Hit the books a little harder there ace. I hear special ed is a great field to enter

  • THIS IS A PRIVATE UNIVERSITY.

  • @wReCktangle If you're saying that since it's a private university, they have the legal right to stifle free speech if they want, then you are technically correct. However, most of these students and their parents pay 10% of their income to the church, which in turn pays for BYU tuition. It's not good to silence people that butter your bread. If BYU and the Church keep doing this, their institution shall surely fall.

  • @wReCktangle Yup, BYU is a private institution, therefore the BYU staff have the right to be dicks, and students have a right to recognize staff for the dicks they are.

  • @whanethewhip Yeah, just like you have the right to be a dick. Dick.

  • @wReCktangle Oh I'm sorry but you have me confused for a dick. You see I'm an asshole, an asshole is just someone that annoys other people. A dick is someone that is controlling and manipulative towards others. So the BYU staff are dicks, and I'm an asshole. If you need further clarification feel free to reply.

  • @whanethewhip Sounds like you got a dick in your asshole.

  • @wReCktangle I'm sorry to hear that that's a sound you are familiar with.

  • Its a Private University. They can make whatever rules they want. Not only that but these students sign a contract aggreeing to BYU's terms. I don't see anything wrong here.

  • insane conservative?

  • LOL! I just hope the power-hungry "leaders" of the school didn't panic at their lack of total control over the minds of these students and deny diplomas to the people who had their own graduation.

  • I believe the reasoning for them asking to leave and only allowing them to protest for a restricted time was that BYU, as well as the LDS faith leans towards appearing politically neutral, and students carrying around signs protesting political leaders from either side of the isle are usually asked to stop. I personally saw no one there get yelled at by anyone in suits, they were politely asked to leave, its a private University, they can do and regulate as they please.

  • The church doesn't officially back any party or candidate, but the administration has NO RIGHT to impose that position on students. Individuals are not required to be politically neutral or behave that way.

  • @cordovamx No, the church does not "lean" towards being neutral. The church MUST remain neutral or they will lose their tax exempt status. That said, these are students with opinions, not church officials taking a position.

  • @cordovamx byu being neutral politically? if so then why did they fund millions to yes on prop 8 groups. they are strictly republican

  • @cordovamx Agreed about the last sentence - but if the Church/BYU is trying to "appear" politically neutral they've done a piss poor job of it.

  • @cordovamx Totally understood. I hate when people forget the fact that BYU is a private university and not a state funded one. They can do whatever they want. If you don't like it, don't go there. If you WANT to be brainwashed, then be my guest and go there. I got kicked out of BYU-Idaho for having a girl in my room and it was then that I realized that wasn't the place for me. I couldn't complain though because the tuition was INSANELY cheap because of faithful Mormon tithing money....

  • Comment removed

  • @JediLDS Then why is tuition so freaking cheap?

  • @tpstrat14 ... Sorry, I mis-spoke on this one. Church tithing money IS used to keep the tuition costs down for LDS students at BYU. Non-LDS who are accepted at BYU will pay almost double what LDS students pay. This practice is similar to what state universities/colleges do when they charge more for out-of-state students. As for the use of tithing money to pay part of a student's education, I have absolutely no problem with that, as the money is going towards a very good cause. :o)

  • @JediLDS On the contrary I think that tithing money should go to the poor of the world whether they are Mormon or not. It should not be circulated within the Mormon society itself. That's a little self-serving don't you think?

  • @tpstrat14 Actually, the church is engaged in humanitarian efforts in various parts of the world. One hundred percent of the donations given to the Church’s humanitarian services are used for relief efforts. The Church absorbs its own overhead costs. Anytime there is a disaster, the church is there, distributing the basic necessities like food, blankets, water, first aid, etc. We also work closely with Catholic Relief Services, and have done so for over 20 years now. Google "Welfare Square".

  • @JediLDS I am aware that Mormons are very giving people, but they're not perfect. This misdirection of tithing money is one area that can be improved. You probably disagree. But if I were Mormon, I'd be less likely to pay tithing if I knew that it was going to help some of the more wealthy people of the world get cheap tuition. I'd rather 100% of my tithing go to feeding the hungry. Of course Mormons need their expensive temples to worship in, so that makes this impossible.

  • @tpstrat14 I've never claimed that LDS were perfect. I'm certainly not. You, sir, are what I refer to as an "ark steadier" (re: Uzza in the Old Testament, who put forth his hand to steady the Ark of the Covenant [1 Chr 13:9-10]), presuming to dictate what the LDS church should and should not be doing. You certainly have a right to an opinion. However, I'd bet my paycheck that members who would object to tithing being used for education, are extremely few in numbers.

  • @JediLDS I was raised Mormon by the way. I went to church every week for 20 years. This misdirection of tithing money is one reason I am inactive. The problem is compounded by the fact that we're supposed to listen to the "authorities" as God's true voice. (i.e. if you have a conflicting opinion about how things should be run, keep it to yourself). This kind of thinking is how many murderous dictatorships have started. The only way to a perfect society is allowing everyone a say... ctnd...

  • @JediLDS And fully accepting criticism within the church. Sure, don't listen to me because I don't even come to church anymore. But do remember that the reason I, as well as many others, don't come to church anymore is BECAUSE no one ever listens to unpopular opinions. It's group-thinking at it's worst....

  • @tpstrat14 Activity or inactivity in the church does not influence whether I listen to someone or not. I've had periods of inactivity myself. What does influence me is when someone thinks they know better how to run the church than a prophet of the Lord does. This tells me that person has lost--or is losing--whatever testimony they have, if they even had one, that is. Their life is their business, of course, but I've had too many experiences to get sucked into the false idea that LDS are wrong.

  • @JediLDS There's not an overly large leap that you have to take to get from what you're saying to believing that the church authorities are Gods themselves (not just messengers of God). In fact, I think you've taken that leap. It's dangerous, shaky ground you're on. You would be wise to step off of it and realize your own power to think for yourself. President Monson won't save you from your own ignorance because he is not God's messenger any more than you are.

  • @tpstrat14 You HONESTLY think I beleive that "the church authorities are God's themselves"? Wow! I've had many anti-Mormonism folks read things into my posts that weren't true, but your's tops them all (no offense intended). Your post made very clear that your knowlege of LDS beliefs/doctrine, and you knowledge of LDS people in general is sadly lacking (again, no offense intended). Think for myself? I've been doing that my entire life.

  • @JediLDS To really believe in the teachings of the Mormon church, yes, it looks as if you must believe that church authorities are gods themselves. Just look at the talks they give at general conference. None of them show that they have real, human problems. How can you be of any help to anyone if you won't come down to our level, oh godly apostles.

  • @tpstrat14 I'll tell you how they can be of help: because they're seasoned citizens and they've been through a lot of life. They're also Apostles who receive guidance and inspiration from the Lord. When they speak, I pay attention, as do most LDS I know.

  • @tpstrat14 ..."To really believe in the teachings of the Mormon church," you have to read the Book of Mormon and pray sincerely about it, asking the Lord specifically if it is true. Moroni's promise (Moroni 10:4-5) works, as I and millions of other LDS have found out. Once you have that witness from the Holy Ghost, nothing will be able to shake your testimony of the Book of Mormon.

  • @JediLDS Hmm.... interesting... I actually did read the Book of Mormon, prayed about it and was told by the Holy Ghost that it is a book of total lies. I guess I'm just a devil's spawn, huh? lol... get off your high horse and come down to live with the rest of us humble humans...

  • @tpstrat14 ... "High horse"? Not really. Just my firm knowledge of the truth of the Book of Mormon. Regardless, the Holy Ghost is not going to tell anyone that the BofM is a "book of total lies". Those who have made such a claim in the past and have been willing to share exactly how the HG supposedly told them that, have exposed the fact that their "revelation" had nothing at all to do with the Holy Ghost.

  • @JediLDS Let me guess, the "Holy Ghost" is defined by what sorts of things he will tell you, right? And of course those things are always going to be consistent with the LDS doctrines, right? So in noting this, isn't your comment hopelessly circular?

I don't think a spiritual agent tells a person a book is true or false. I think people tell themselves what they want to hear and disguise their own feelings and wishes in an imaginary friend they call "the holy ghost." Just think about it.

  • @Tibberclaw "I don't think a spiritual agent tells a person a book is true or false."

The Bible would disagree with you. Matt 21:22 - "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." Also James 1:5 - "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

  • @JediLDS You cite the Bible as though it held some sort of authority. The bible says eating certain seafood is an abomination (Leviticus 11) and that you are unfit to enter the tabernacle if you are missing a testicle (Deuteronomy 23). Or, if you prefer the New Testament, it says women should remain silent in church (1 Timothy 2). It says a lot of things, some of which is contradictory and others just plain absurd. Yet you expect me to accept it as a source of epistemological wisdom? Try again.

  • @Tibberclaw Sounds as if you don't accept the Bible to be God's word, which is your right not to believe, of course. However, I still stand by my statement the Holy Ghost does reveal truth to those who seek it in prayer.

  • @JediLDS Yes, you stand by it, but on what grounds? You brought up the bible, and I'd argue that it is, at best, unreliable. What is your evidence or valid method of determining that the statement, "the Holy Ghost does reveal truth to those who seek it in prayer" is true? People arrive at various mutually incompatible answers through prayer, so HOW do we determine which prayer-based answers are the right ones? How do you filter truth from mere wishful thinking?

  • I love Brigham Young University. This video makes the BYU liberals more significant than they actually are. They make up no more than 1-2% of the student body.

  • the reason they told them to stop is due to the fact NO ONE cares!!!

Your cause is useless. You are making meaningless noise when people are trying to study, go home.

  • Wow, things are getting really bad. Good work for filming and posting this - as many people as possible need to be aware of every instance of this so they know how widespread and severe it is.

Man, all this escalating oppression is f***ed up.

  • Dick Cheney. A man who has everything. The only thing he needs is a bullet in his head. Where have all the talented assassins gone?

  • He didn't answer his question? Why did they remove the signs and limit free speech? See where they messed up? It's when they got a small amount of time to protest ON the campus. Couldn't be me, honey. I would have left the school. No money for them.

  • BULLSHIT. i would not allow anyone to take my sign, fuck that. they can go to hell.

its called free fucking will. some people need to learn how to stick to their guns a little more. do not allow random people like this to push you around.

  • @xSammBAM So you are saying that someone who read, signed, and fully understood a document (the honor code and rules of conduct), has no obligation to abide by the rules they PROMISED to abide by? Sounds to me as if the only thing that's screwed up is your moral compass. The school, being a private institution, didn't have to allow them ANY time to protest. And I'll bet that a majority of the students didn't mind that Cheney was coming. A few students pretending that they spoke for everyone. Sad

  • Personally.. if it were me.. I'd never allow anyone on my private property to protest ANYTHING. Protesters are a certain "type" of people that I don't want to have anything to do with.. no matter what they're protesting. Protesters are basically just pests.. much like flies and mosquitoes and such.. and that's about it.

  • wait until you have a reason to protest, you'll feel differently about it. don't assume you know anything about "protesters" good sir. stereotyping is a horrible way of classifying individuals... you can do better than this.

  • Someone call the waaaambulance. Oh noes they took my sign!

I saw absolutely no evidence of bully tactics being used.. "threw his shoulder into it?" If you make the claim put up some video to back up that claim.. I call bs. Funny how there is audio on all other parts of the video except when the large man is talking to them.

It's a private campus and the fact that they even let you protest on PRIVATE PROPERTY is a privilege.. not a right.

  • The very term/notion of a 'freedom of speech zone' implies that our freedom of speech is being undermined. Freedom of speech is not something that a private university or government allows you to have, freedom of speech is our irrevocable right protected under our constitution. This video makes me ill, this is just one more way the government controls how people think and act. Do you honestly believe the government wants to protect our freedoms of speech and assembly?

  • Wrong. Think of it this way... If you're on my lawn protesting whatever it is you would protest.. I'd have you thrown off my lawn by local police.. and yes.. it would be legal.. and it would be RIGHT.

  • Wrong, if these pests did not exist, equal rights among minorities and women would not exist, and the Vietnam war would have continued much longer. Just because something is legal does not make it right. Remember, everything Hitler did was 'legal'. Universities should encourage the formation, advocating, and demonstrating of ideas and points of view. Your inane expressions are completely childish and express your shortsightedness, which is saying much considering you are thirty-five.

  • Haha it said in the salt lake tribune that BYU is NOT the most religious campus, that St. Thomas Aquinas a Catholic campus is the most religious, doesn't surprise me, the mormons are starting to realize that they have NOTHING on the Catholics

  • Yeah, they have not killed as many people as the Catholics. Did you know that Hitler was a Catholic?

  • You mormons are jealous of the Catholics like satan is jealous of God.. TED BUNDY WAS A MORMON HAHA ASSHOLE.. go look up infamous mormons butt licker.. you people have killed and raped more then any Catholic did.. you jealous fuck

  • You are comparing Ted Bundy to Hitler? Hitler caused the deaths of over 6,000,000 people ,LMAO. Let's not forget the Spanish inquisition. Mormon's have not been around long enough to kill as many people as the Catholics. By the way I am not a Mormon, just a history buff.

  • What the Catholics did was NOTHING COMPARED TO THE SICK CRIMES THAT WERE DONE BY MORMONS

  • Look at the body count from the time of the Spanish inquisition. Mormons have only been around since the 1800's, they have not had as much time as the Catholics to cause as much damage.

  • Oh so its ok for mormons to kill people.. WTF psycho.. look at the body count of the thousands that ASSHOLE PROPHET OF SATAN BRIGHAM YOUNG HAD KILLED, HE WAS THE 1800'S VERSION OF SADDAM HUESSAIN

  • I did not say that it was okay for Mormons to kill people. What I said is that Catholics have a greater body count and have caused more destruction, because they have been around longer.

  • So what you're saying then that makes it ok.. the mormons have killed almost more then the Catholics have, it doesnt matter who was around longer, the mormons are more psychotic then anyone

  • Please correct your grammar, it's "more than" "than anyone" Catholics have actually killed more people than Mormons. You need a good history lesson, and judging by your grammar, another English lesson

  • Are you from utah? Oh and the mormons do a lot more damage then the catholics do

  • No! Thank the universe, however I have spoken with those who live there. I am not a Mormon, and I am aware of the crimes commited by fanatical members. Albeit, they compare very slim to the crimes commited by the Catholic church and her members. There is a trail of blood, torture, and unjustified death, that follows all the Abrahamic religions. You should to study history, it is probably one of the most important things in life to be aware of. The Spanish inquisition start there.

  • Proof?

  • Proofs out there look for it

  • Do you have any point or are you just rambling about nothing? There are zero fact to any post you have ever made.

  • What part of look it up yourself dont you get. You wanna keep messing with me

  • Because you will be able to prove me wrong? If there is so much out there lets have an example of some of this so called proof.

Have you ever heard of chainsticks88?

  • I am proving you wrong and I TOLD you to find the proof yourself. You like all mormons sound like satan when satan told Jesus to PROVE that hes the Son of God, Jesus told satan no he doesn't have to prove anything but his actions proved it, so you mormons basically call Jesus a liar for not proving what he was supposed to prove to satan. Its NOT hard to look up what you wanna look up, more mormons are becoming criminals then anyone

  • They were perfectly allowed to go across the streets and voice their opinions. But when you become a student at Brigham Young University, you sign a contract. And in that contract, you agree to not create protests, because it detracts from the spirit of the campus. It wasn't about the speech, but about the fact that they were in the middle of the university square and BYU did not even HAVE to give them their hour. It's a private institution.

  • the people from utah need to read and understand the book of the mormon..cause the people from utah are racist and ignorants..

  • mormon uprising.

  • I was there, what a day!

  • fat nigger

  • WTF? Doesn't a free speech 'zone' render the whole idea of free speech pointless?

  • Here's the end all to all discussion as to whether this was okay for the university to do or not. You ready for this? BYU is a PRIVATE university as others have stated. In fact, in order to attend the university you must sign a code of conduct that literally states you will abide by the administration's rules. If you don't like the rules, go somewhere else. Any further discussion past this point is completely worthless.

  • First, I hate "Free Speech Zones," abuse of power, and efforts to quiet voices of protest. It's authoritarian bullshit.

But the problem here is that BYU is a private institution and they legally have the ability to do this.

Just bad planning in terms of location. Should have gone across the street to public grounds. That's what we had to do (private college).

  • I hope whoever made this video is proud of the effect that it has had. As I have read through the comments its seems it has just served as a catalyst to BYU bashing. I have never quite been able to understand why students choose to attend here and complain about the school and what it stands for all along the way. Thank you for taking the time and effort to belittle a Church owned and operated institution.

  • So you are essentially saying that being Church owned is an excuse for inhibiting free speech? Throw a bit of Intelligent Design into the mix as well, why don't you.

  • I went to BYU in the early 90s and it looks like it hasn't changed much since then. That president looks like a real dick.

  • I just had the pleasure of getting kicked out of BYU; I just opened up the letter no more than 5 minutes ago.

I have never been more stoked in my life.

I finally get to leave this horrible place :)

  • you never had the option to leave before?

  • Plus this video is incredicbly one sided, i would like to see both sides clearly before i had a finale choice in who was in the right

  • Yes this looks bad and as a libertarian i kind of hate it when free speech is opposed, but i also value the privilge of a private organization, BYU is not public, the students pay usually 17000 dollars less than the average person pays on tution from my state, it isnt a right to be there, they have strict rules at that school, but they give the kids so much, of course they would ask them to respect the rules

  • This is nothing new and BYU is not the only university that has designated free speech zones. Many universities have designated free speech zones to limit disruption, and they regulate and control it. This includes limiting the time that protesters can use in those designated areas. Not saying that this is right or wrong, but stating the fact that this is common policy for many universities.

  • students from byu are racist!!! racist people are ignorant people..

  • how the heck are they racist? I know plenty of non white people who go there, im sorry to offend you but you are ignorant not them.

  • i 'm from mexico and i live in mexico, but i was working in byu so i know the people from byu, they are racist and the people from utah are weird and boring.. i'm mormon too. the most of the people in utah are mormos..so why the people from utah are racist ?

  • who knows, still you cant group everyone together, of course some are going to be since that is just the way things are, yes raciest people are ignorant, and not christian, but i dislike generalization, and your orginal message upseted me cause im going there in the fall and i am not racist, even though i am white i live in largely hispanic town and experinced racist towards me for being white, but i dont hold against anyone its just they way they grew up and only a product of what they learned

  • @colimote1978

I am from Connecticut I am LDS and Connecticut is right near New York State. i have visited the most beautiful Statue in this country Statue of Liberty. anyway get outside of Utah and live in New York downtown Manhantten that is more crazy than Utah .

  • colimote1978,

  • So you're putting an entire, diverse group of people into one large group and stereotyping them. As racist? That doesn't seem a bit hypocritical to you?

  • How utterly rediculous that people can be so opposed to Dick Cheney, yet so easily embrace the Socialism of Barack Hussein. BYU-Provo Democrats, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

  • lol BYU is actually very conservative...

  • I'm glad I didn't waste any money on that shithole of a university.

  • Stupid people..they should take thier freaking hippie attitude and leave BYU. Yeah - speaking to your sorry arse feminists and librals...get out..not only of BYU, but the church too...we don't want your dissenting types...

  • yeah we do, actually we like people that stand up for their convictions and stand against injustice. this has nothing do to with Feminists or "Librals". BYU is not the church, it is funded by the church. the leaders of BYU don't receive the same level of direction that the leaders of the church do. regardless of political views everyone is invited.

  • I can't tell whether comments like this are genuine sentiments, or parodies...

  • Man, you anti-Mormon people are a weird breed of people.lol

  • BYU isn't some ghetto ass State College that allows their people to act however they want. Protesting isn't going to do anything, so why do it?

  • Comment removed

  • True, it is a private school. Maybe taking a political science class might educate those concerned with their 1st amendment rights.

This is very much like someone moving next to an airport, then complaining about the noise.

  • PRIVATE SCHOOL they make their own rules for any school related event dont like it go somewhere else

  • maybe you're at the wrong school and in the wrong religion, why don't you leave it, and all of those people complaining. your religion isn't a democracy. what the leadership says is the law, end of discussion.

  • hahahaha

  • You're at a private school deal with the rules if you don't like it get out.

ps you little protest did nothing try some tolerance. If you don't like who's speaking at graduation don't go. pretty simple

  • Screw the free speech zone along with SCREW the government:-)

  • i am a direct decendent of karl g maeser i speak for him when i say he would be embarrased of this. he didn't stand for this.

  • watch?v=4hXo66w4agQ&feature=subscription

  • Are we honestly surprised? BYU is a Private Institution and can do whatever it wants. If you want free speech and opinion dont go to BYU.

  • Or any other private school

  • Way to go students!

  • This is so funny and sad! great work! What jerks!

  • I would be grateful to anyone that messages me the name of the "large imposing suit" and what is the name of the man addressed towards the end that said that the school isn't afraid of anything?

  • Magic underpants!

  • So much for the U.S. Constitution. Isn't Utah part of America? Why not just let Utah secede and they can make their own stupid rules and oppress whomever they want to oppress. The rest of us would then be free to boycott their industry, their fresh produce, anything they export. Lets see how long they can do without the rest of the world. It's time they started to live in it with the rest of us.

  • Thats what you get from a bunch of mormons.

  • wow the voice of tollerance and freedom....... O_o

  • I passed by this video so many times. I finally took the opportunity to watch it and at the end I was really speechless angry at Brigham Young University. I really wanted to go to BYU, but chose UVU because of their Aviation Science Program. This just adds to my relief for choosing otherwise.

  • WTF is a free speech zone. I thought in America there was almost no limitations on free speech.

  • I thought america was a "freedom" loving country who protected citizens "freedoms" such as "free speech" etc, while blasting other countries for oppressing their own citizens. Well i have news for you America, you are pretty much the only country in the world with "free speech cages". so much for freedom and rights hey. You are a democratic country with a government elected BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE! therefore if there is a problem you should address the protestors concerns, not cage them up!
