I went in on the NCR's side then turned on everyone using the New Vegas robots. I killed the Legion boss, then used all my skill books and magazines to get my speech only just to 100 and convinced the NCR boss to surrender to me. It was funny watching a robot throw him off the dam...

Back to subject. Convincing Lanius to leave without a fight is so much better than to engage him in mortal combat. Your dialogue option is basically telling him in the face that he and his campaign is doomed from the beginning, AND GETTING HIM, AN ELITE UNCOMPROMISING WARRIOR, TO AGREE WITH YOU. Now that is a better victory than a hail of gunfire.

Some fallout "fans"hate the newer fallouts because they lack STORY. If anything, the legate beats out frank horrigan in terms of speech, and rivals the master on the same level. Not to mention he just looks badass. I wish you could have gotten his armor during gameplay.

Thankfully these two major issues were fixed in NV, which practically did everything better than Fallout 3 did.

Superior strength can't do jack if the enemy could simply maximize their success and reduce their disadvantage using their heads Eg Planned out strategy, building superior weapons to compensate, use 100+ speech to talk you down, get powerful allies to help them, building traps etc

I think Lanius won't return, Caesar is dead in this ending and the Legion will fall apart. They don't follow the ideals of the Legion, they follow the man who made it. I love how this game gives you so many differerent endings and outcomes to speculate on. It gets the right balance of closure and uncertainty.

If Caesar dies, most people speculate that the Legion will die out as its leaders turn on each other. But thats open to interpretation from anybody.
