I read in a magazine the other day (I recall it was Rolling Stone but I'm not sure) that Lennon couldn't bring himself to sing this song at first. He wrote it thinking about Yoko and how he didn't want her to let him down.

In order to sing it, he asked Ringo to give a cymbal crash before his vocals to give him courage. That's why it sounds so genuine every time he says it.

I can say that I'm so damn greatful my grandparents ALWAYS Had music playing, because if they didn't I probably wouldn't have known about the Beatles. Don't Let Me Down wasn't on Let It Be. It was a single released as the B-side to Get Back. However it did make it's way onto CD by being on Hey Jude 1967-1970, Past Masters Vol.2, and Let It Be...Naked. A truly amazing song. It just shows you how much vulnerability John possessed.
