when Vernon Davis caught that TD, this was what I remember at the same time......Singletary had a tremendous effect on the 49ers as A TEAM. very evident.
What makes Harbaugh amazing that he turned a culture from losing and being just mediocre to a culture of having the team believe in itself with practically the same players. Very few coaches can do that and Jim and John Harbaugh was able to do that with the Ravens.

You know, as a Niner fan (since I was a kid during the Joe Montana era), I really liked Singletary's character. I liked his swagger, I liked his no-nonsense attitude, and I still credit part of the Niners' success this season to what he did as coach.
HOWEVER, you can't argue with results, and 13-3 and a playoff berth (and possible 1st week bye) beats the hell out of 6-10 last year, losing a division that set a record with the first ever team to enter the playoffs with a LOSING RECORD.

@TheGeorgecostanza Most of the recent coaches the Niners have had have been very defensive minded; this is why the 49er defense has been awesome for a few years. Harbaugh has been able to maintain an offense that Smith and the rest of the O can handle. They have been playing to Alex's strengths rather than asking Alex to make big plays, which he has had to do for the past few years resulting in bad decisions made by him. I'm glad to see Alex Smith finally living up to his potential.

@ExpertDude13 Singletary deserves some credt for making Vernon Davis more of a man. That proves that he had some coaching skills and was able to reach players. His staff sucked - and that was obviously in the end of his tenure with those dubious situations with his staff. I think he deserves another shot.

Nolan got the pieces together of a great team,sing. gave that same team uncanny toughness that can't be matched by any other nfl team. all these guys are nolan guys. singleteary gave them aggresiveness probably the main reason why the 49ers beat the saints was that they wanted the game more, thank mike for giving the niners this toughness. Harbraugh made everything glue and has better football smarts than nolan or sing.

You know, as a Niner fan (since I was a kid during the Joe Montana era), I really liked Singletary's character. I liked his swagger, I liked his no-nonsense attitude, and I still credit part of the Niners' success this season to what he did as coach.
HOWEVER, you can't argue with results, and 13-3 and a playoff berth (and possible 1st week bye) beats the hell out of 6-10 last year, losing a division that set a record with the first ever team to enter the playoffs with a LOSING RECORD.

Thank God this guy is gone! He was a great player, no question. But I think he might of suffered permanent brain damage from the licks he dealt. Yes, he did build up a great defense. But what did he do to Alex Smith other than dissolve his confidence? Bring in Harbaugh and hey, Alex Smith is doing just fine this year. Just my opinion but defensive players rarely make good NFL head coaches.

@TheGeorgecostanza Most of the recent coaches the Niners have had have been very defensive minded; this is why the 49er defense has been awesome for a few years. Harbaugh has been able to maintain an offense that Smith and the rest of the O can handle. They have been playing to Alex's strengths rather than asking Alex to make big plays, which he has had to do for the past few years resulting in bad decisions made by him. I'm glad to see Alex Smith finally living up to his potential.
