Nice explanation of how to CONFIGURE it, but no explanation of how to actually get off the black screen I get when I boot SSF up in the first place. That never changes, no matter what I do. Help would be appreciated...

@ThePhil909 You need Daemon Tools. Create a virtual drive in daemon tools, mount your image to that virtual drive. Now open SSF, click options>options>CD drive>BD-ROM drive (G:) now click OK. Now Hardware>CD open>CD Close. If that doesn't work, make sure Daemon Tools is right and close SSF. Now re-open SSF and the game should start automatically. ;)

@Jstruzz A .DLL file is a file on your computer that allows other stuff to work, basically. If you're missing a DLL for something like SSF, it's probably DirectXWeb or DirectX9. You might also want to get Microsoft Visual C++ 2010. You can find all these things at the microsoft website. ;)

@Caluma122 Make sure Daemon Tools took the image. You'll probably want to use an ISO, but if that doesn't work try some other format like CUE. If you still have the same error. try downloading from a different site. Also make sure you're using SSF_011_alpha_R4 (That's probably your problem) If it still doesn't work I don't know what to do.

@FicticiousAnimation Thank you for your response. The Daemon tools took the image. Managed to get it working in the end. And it was epic. Probably main problem was incorrect BIOS. Just fiddled around and got there in the end.

I've been playing games that I never played before on my old saturn, so I've been messing about, trying to figure out the ideal speed of some games. The music sounds either too fast, or too slow, as I'm finding. :/

Also, the minimal specs for this program are surprisingly low. I've found my old windows xp laptop with intel x3100 graphics and intel core 2 duo to work smashingly with SSF. Save for the speed issues of course.

I cannot get Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, (known in Japan as Akumajō Dracula X: Gekka no Yasōkyoku) to work with SSF.

I've got W7 and DX9-11. The SSF works itself, but goes to the Saturn's disc menu to say the disc is unsuitable.

I know it's a region incompatible message because the game was JAP release only.

Do I need a JAP BIOS?

@XSC3 It says "Direct3D9" for you, correct? That means your computer does not have a DirectX 3D graphics card, but this cannot be downloaded, your computer has to have it installed into it, I believe

I got that problem as well, the solution was that you have to use an older version of SSF, try a version slightly older until you find one that works. I guessing this happens because one has a graphics card that is old or maybe isn't supported fully.

@IvyRave I just researched this and found out why. Your video card needs to support something called Pixel Shader 2.0 in order for this emulator to work. If you have an old or outdated video card, chances are your video card doesn't support Pixel Shader 2.0 graphics. My card for example, can only do 1.4.

@mechdesroyerx A message like that means, usually, that the file or application is corrupted. Try re-downloading from a different site. Also make sure you get "SSF_011_alpha_R4" being that it's pretty much the best version.

And to all who can't seem to run this because they're missing a dll file, you probably need to download that missing dll file and put it in the sega saturn emu's folder to work. You can try officially updating your Direct X first (go with a Direct X 9 download, especially if you're on vista or Win7). I've run into a lot of problems with missing dll files on this new PC, it seems to be some sort of an issue with missing Direct X files...

Got it to work but I'm not sure if I directed the drive correctly to Daemon tools because of its bizarro name (Its the "G Drive" but when I try to set it in the dropdown menu, the only other drive I see if "HQPWT J4913WL"). It keeps saying it's a disc unsuitable to the system, hmm. I'll keep tinkering with it and looking through the comments I guess.

@xchancex13 You have to mount the .MDF file into a virtual disk drive, like Daemon Tools. I got a copy of Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis that used these files. you mount the .MDF into the drive, go to SSF and select the file

@master2873 Let's see...I downloaded Daemon tools and played Mega Man 8 for two days. Didn't download anything else but daemon tools and used it. P.C. ran fine until that day and then it messed up. I forgot to mention that I couldn't use my CD drive on P.C. and it didn't show up on the my computer file (C: drive). Yeah it's all my fault.....if there's an alternative to emulating disc drives I'd try it but be careful.

From most of the comments I see, (OK, the first page) I would either guess SSF is either a virus or needs compatible software/DLLS to run and we should use a DIFFERENT saturn emu. There's like four on coolroms.net. Btw, I didn't test to see if was a virus, just making a guess, so don't fire back

For those with the Xaudio problem try running the DirectX9.0c Runtime update, it worked in my case anyway (On Win7 using ver 0.11 Aplha)
