how did you couple your dem code with fluent? Is there any way to call consequently dem and fluent? Did you use a batch command? Have you some guide or how to? thanks...
@d3rf0 Yes, you can run cfd and dem consequently by calling dem in the user defined functions of fluent. I do not use a batch command. I get the variables from cfd using udf and share them with dem by use of public variables. You can also put some of them into udm in fluent and then you can view their values in the postprocessing windows of fluent. cheers,
Yes, it could be a DIY simplified circulating fluidized bed in computers. Some researchers also think it is virtual experimentation under idealized conditions. In essence, it is a mathematical description of the flow based on first principals.
lazysunleo... can you develope the simulation including External heat exchanger?, this attending the traditional design (after the cone valve, below the cyclone)
Hi, 4agrees, it is a long-term plan to include heat exchanger and heat, mass transfer in the simulation. We have to try it first. I guess it should work by 50% chance at the moment.
Well, I donot know much about absorbtion/desorption. But I do know Fluent can simulate lots of chemical reactions. CFX is even better than Fluent in the simulation of chemical reactions.
Very nicely done. Is there a specific system that you are modeling for? This setup describes precisely the method of chemical looping combustion movement of the metallic particles.
I was wondering if you minded if I kinda borrowed this from you to use in a presentation on CLC for one of my classes.
We couple our DEM code to Fluent. There are some papers available for detailed information.

so this is how u make a DIY fluidized sand bed filter...right?!?!

what program did you use?

Our own DEM and coupling codes with Fluent for the sulution of CFD.

Great job! Is it FLuent you used to couple DEM with CFD, similar to EDEM of DEM Solutions? Your UDF must be very very long to include DEM code...
bluebeers 2 years ago
Our method is very similar to EDEM. It is ture that we have a quite long UDF for Fluent. Cheers and thanks!

i saw your resume. I see you are very good... in FLUENT. So I want to ask you:
- can I simulate with fluent a chemical reaction, an absorbtion/desorption reaction?

You are welcome! All the best to you too!

Very usuful simulation. I was thinking in the posibility of mixing and dry sand and cement by this way, but it seems that could be segregation...
Thanks a lot.
pepeiq 2 years ago
Yes, it is true. Segregation is unavoidable in this CFB. By the way, higher fluid velocity will suppress segregation.

Yes, you can borrow it. Just remember to say it was created at UNSW by KaiWei Chu, Bo Wang and Aibing Yu.
