  • Dead lift is a dangerous exercise and should only be practiced if you are confident in doing it. You spend a fair bit of time stuffing with your hands. Try a systematic approach to lifting, ie line your feet where you want/need them. Position your hands on the bar, then get into position to lift. Check your posture in the mirror then begin your lift. If there is any jerking you shoud just stop and reposition yourself. Hope this helps.

  • i recommend moving your hands out so your legs are more straight. your knees were basically bent inward, making your legs weaker. don't bother looking in the mirror. if you want to know what your lift looks like, film it from multiple angles. i know a thing or two about pulling heavy objects from the floor up. check my videos

    Not when deadlifting, then you shouldn't wear shoes at all. The closer to the ground, the shorter distance you need to lift the bar. Look at professional deadlifters, usually only wear socks.

    Converse are a good alternative tho when it comes to Squats.

  • @JohannesE777 Professional deadlifters? You mean powerlifters. And most meets require you to wear shoes, so they usually wear stuff like Chucks, wrestling shoes, or maybe some squat or deadlift shoes from a company like METAL.

  • @xjusticex2013x Deadlifting shoes is actually a sock with rubber on it. Most PL-federations including IPF requires you to have long socks to protect your legs and prevent bleeding, but no federation that i know of requires shoes. If you want to use shoes go ahead, but i will make you have to lift the weight longer distance which is why most powerlifters (including me) choose to wear socks (usually regular ones on practice and PL-socks when competing).

  • @JohannesE777 Good idea--a pair of socks would help keep a solid foothold on a rubber mat....

  • @Clintbdee That is why you use socks designed for deadlifting, they have rubber on them. Usually you use long 'soccer-socks' (reaches to the knee) to protect the legs (since you can't wear pants when competing) and use a rubber sole. Sometimes people also use a wet towel lying on the floor and just stand on it a few secs to get some friction towards the floor.

    Lifters go through all this trouble just because it reduces the distance you have to lift the bar (same with a bridge when benching).

  • work your grip breh, I know it's a 1RM but you should be able to grip tree fiddy

  • you'll probably have more luck if you just use a double overhand grip when using straps. that way you only have to roll the bar into your hands to tighten the straps rather then trying to adjust both hands in different directions. better yet, keep the alternating grip and loose the straps. someone may already have said this, i stopped reading the comments after i read the one about walking like a duck.

    - Your feet are too far apart. You're not that wide.

    - You need to get more air in your belly. You can't get an optimal amount air by having your stomach against your thighs.

    - You're sitting over the bar too long. You're losing all of your stretch reflex.

    - You're not pulling back. Right off the ground you need to pull back on your heels.
