  • If you guys wanna hear a great modern drummer, look up Carter Beauford. Best hi-hat work I've ever seen.

  • He's not my fav. drummer, but I do have a poster of him behind the time machine on my wall! Mitch Mitchell( R.I.P.) is my fav. For those of you that don't know he is(was). He was Jimi Hendrixs' drummer.

  • Too many people are far too negative or worship him as a god.

Can't we all just agree that he is one of the best drummers in rock history as well as one of the most influential.

  • Neil Peart is a legend, but there comes a time when you can't play music like you could when you were 20, the same thing has happened to people like Jimmy page, who has permanent back damage from playing such heavy guitars, people get old. This has no impressed me, not that it was bad, most drummers today could not play like this, but when listening to rushes albums this has left me feeling a bit odd, like there was no groove, no heart behind it, I felt like he didn't even enjoy playing it.

  • @SiCnTwiZtiD21 I agree 100%. Think about it tho, if you were at such a high level at your craft, wouldnt it get boring after 30+ years. Yep

  • Great camera shot at 3:04

  • perhaps i should do a sasquatch call... looks like a squatchy area

  • i love neil peart's playing and musicianship and have for years and years but i'd much rather hear him play with the band, in spite of his prodigious chops this just left me cold

  • Listen to solos by Benny Greb and you know what groove is.

  • Not fans of Lars Ulrich.. but Peart is just hammering the drums real fast without any sense of groove.. he's all 16th, 32nd and 64th notes.... nothing else.... oh.. and his stupiditivitisimaliest bullshit drumcomputer with all that kindergarden-sounds! Sometimes I wish he'd just bring forth a tiny bike, ride it and play some circus music...

  • 16 DISLIKES?? Ha ok...fans of Lars Ulrich i guess....

  • Sorry to say, because he is a nice man, but that's the worst solo of drum solo week, and by no small margin. I know. I understand. Neil is a God and I'm an asshole. He's just incredibly over rated. Oops. There I go again, showing my blatant disregard for this musical legend. I'm so sorry.

  • @frimple1 brilliant comment! I really am baffled at how people think he's the greatest drummer!! I know we all have different tastes etc but i sure know a not so good drummer when i see one, i can name people lists and lists of drummers that shit all over neil. HES BORING. Glad your on the same wave length as me, some people just don't get IT

  • Neil makes music. He's not just beating drums and cymbols to keep a beat. , That's what sets "Greatest Drummers" from the rest.

  • im better

  • Beautiful cymbals.

  • Almost 60 and still heating those cymbals and pounding those poor drumheads. Neil is my inspiration for playing drums myself. I have been listening RUSH since I was eleven, almost thirty years ago. Though, I play fine, I am not part of that league, so I better stick to engineering I suck less there. I salute Pratts.

  • @TheMoonchild1969 The way he played Buddy Rich's arrangement of "Love For Sale" was awful.

  • You know i love drummers like the rev and mike portnoy and vinnie paul and all them but people are right neil peart is a better drummer than he gets credit for

  • Great Drum Kit !!

  • the greatest ever

  • Thanks for posting...awesome!

  • Hey and lets not forget Thomas Lang also a great drummer there are hundreds of fantastic players all over the world, they all contribute in their own little way. when are we going to stop trying to judge the best and stop bagging the rest . just love them for what they contribute to music sure you can have your favorite but without different styles it would just get boring.D.R.U.M.S. Drummers Remain United Music Survives

  • @stumppy69r I'm with you man!! There's so many good musicians out there and they all have a different vibe and feel!

  • yes this is a real drummer who plays them in the pocket no matter what he's doing and all the greats have such respect for big band drummers you never get bored listening to there drum solos

  • straight up- GREATEST ROCK DRUMMER

  • He is absolutely mesmerizing to watch!!

  • @sheabirdable Are you serious??? by doing WHAT??

  • @rogueronin82 Playing drums? Isn't that what this link is about? Did I miss something?

  • In 2112, he will still hold the title of the greatest drummer ever!

  • @mrnachonovo1 no doubt hes a great drummer but me im a John Henry Bonham student and admirer as i seen him as a kid and because of that ive been drumming nearly 30 yrs...my channel is dedicated to him and led zeppelin.

  • @mrnachonovo1 No. I don't care if you call him your favourite, but never can you state someone is the best drummer when there are so many different styles.

  • not very good, Sheila kicks his ass!!

  • @johnnylarue1 LOL at you

  • I want to see what he can do on a kick/snare/hat setup.

  • he seemed nervous to me and uncomfortable , But I am a fan and I am bass player , So i have a different respect for his playing as bass n drums is one instrument when jammed right !

  • if i had a drum set that big ten bucks says id be all where the Fuck is my snare?!!!!!!!

  • Peart is the best rock drummer ever, but a lot of this solo was boring, much like his solo on the Time Machine Tour.

  • Comment removed

  • When did he start sucking ? I think after the 80s

  • @dookie61619 i say thats pretty dam good for how old he is, and when he plays with rush now they sound the exact same as on there records

  • is that stage made outa Jello?

  • I don't think anyone would argue that there are more technically proficient drummers out there. There are also drummers with better feel ,concepts and better groove too. Now how about the effect he has had on popular culture? Now he gets mentioned in the same breath as Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Ringo Star, John Bonham and Steve Gadd. 50 years from now folks will still be talking about him... must be doing something right.

  • Neil Peart not only is the beast of the drum kit but writes most of Rush's lyrics.

This solo is a small sample of this guys talent, Enjoy!

  • I'm sorry, but as a drumer I have to say that Neil's solos make absolutely no sense to me and they aren't even technically challenging. Don't see why everyone thinks he's a god

  • @bnyce52 lets hear some of your solos

  • @bnyce52 Shut the fuck up, you're an idiot. Make a video or shut up. Prove it, prove how "great" you are, dumbass. You don't know shit. Your either a troll or a fool.

  • @bnyce52 After listening to Geddy's vocals for 2 hours Pert's solo is a blessed relief. ;)

  • @bnyce52 as a non drummmer, i have no fucking idea who you are.

    case closed

  • God called, and he wants his drum-kit back!

  • Brian Downey,Buddy,Steve Gadd,Dave Weckl,Rufus Speedy Jones,Butch Miles,Louis Bellson,Billy Cobham,Elvin Jones,Dennis Chambers,Duffy Jackson,Guy Nadon,Joe Jones,Dennis Mackrel,Omar Hakim,David James etc

  • @jazzmanbop None of those guys hold a candle to neil.

  • Brian Downey

  • horrible solo by his standard...

  • "Neil Peert everyone."

  • Neil's using traditional grip again?

  • I don't know. Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Buddy Rich and Terry Bozzio have done more to impress me than Peart or Portnoy. Don't get me wrong, they are phenomenal, but they are a little overrated, even at their level.

  • @Conflikt420 Neil is underrated. Buddy Rich, I'd put as almost as good as Neil, the rest you mentioned are over rated, including Portnoy.

  • @Mglosk Idk, Peart has a lot of gear, and weird cymbals and electronics and things, but he just always seems to play very predictably and quite frankly boring. I hear more people talking Peart up than any other drummer, he's hardly underrated. And this solo here is a shining example of just how bland his style really is.

  • @Conflikt420 If you actually think this is bland, then you just have a difference of opinion of what "bland" is.

Personally I find NP anything but bland. He uses every single drum in his kit. His Drum solo has changed over time and improved beyond anyone else's capabilities. He's doing so much shit that you don't even see and you need to have a good drummer's ear to even hear, I can listen to a NP drum solo and find something different each time. That's not bland.

  • Yeah? I'm an idiot huh? How bout this-why dont you check out some real drummers like chambers, chris coleman or marco minnemann. All those drummers have talent this guy couldn't dream of. Yes, gold plated hardware and 78 triggered sounds are cool but they will never make up for that:)

  • @powerbass11 Yawn, all those drummers are good, I guess, I've listened to them, kind of booooooring, but if you're into them.... I guess someone hasta be.

  • @Mglosk You want to talk about boring? Neil has had his heyday but I think it was in 1978. Hes still playing the same patterns that he was playing then and after listening to this solo, I almost fell asleep

  • powerbass is an idiot

  • @reedou812 i whole-heartedly agree with powerbass11. GO POWERBASS11

  • Terri Bozio should be mentioned as well. Who is he... remember Frank Zappa...? There ya go.

  • @FF1emthawk He was ok. Was never really impressed.

  • 1) gavin harrison 2 ) dennis chambers/tony royster, 3) shiela e / the other guy, 4) roy hanes/ stewart copeland 5) neil peart (just above justin bieber:)

  • I agree, he is the greatest of all time!!! The drum master! Truly gifted by God!

  • To get the recognition he gets he gotta be doing something right ...I love it ! Also like Dennis Chambers as a alternate style of drummer too !

  • Greatest drummer of all time !!!!!!!

  • my top five drummers,i haven't seen or heard every drummer out there but these are my top five.

    1) neil peart

    2) nicko mcbrain

    3) clive burr

    4) mick brown

    5) steve smith

  • Bubba's Bar 'n' Grill

    /watch?v=cjoiPsHCpis

  • The only reason there are 8 dislikes is because they thought it said "Dis-i-like!"

  • Can't swing to save his life! Never did and never will. Stick to a rock grove man!

  • @terryin2garden And you sure with you knew what you were talking about.

  • Neil is probably the only drummer who DESERVES this much recognition... im sad that travis barker is considered "the greatest drummer ever" when you have people like Vinnie Colaiuta, Blake Richardson, and Gavin Harrison who dont get NEARLY enough respect as these "greatest drummers ever" such as Barker, Lars Ulrich (even though im a huge metallica fan) Portnoy and whoever the hell the drummer is from Likin Park or whatever

  • @HandShake44 travis barker who? hahahaha

  • @Mglosk travis who?*

  • @HandShake44 Portnoy is regarded as 'great' not only by fans, but also, and perhaps more importantly, by his peers.

  • @HandShake44 I don't know what drummers you talk to but no one over the age of 10 that has a lot of exposure to drummers knows that travis barker doesn't have the technicality or skill of drummers like neil. and Mike Portnoy is considered one of the greatest progressive drummers seeing as how he's the youngest person to be inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame and Peart is one of his biggest influences.

  • Not great. Just good.

  • @spacitydrummer4JC Not great. Just god (fixed)

  • anyone have any idea what line of cymbals those are? petty crafty looking!!

  • @fordsucks27 Custom sabian paragon

  • Anyone else just ignore comments that say "best drummer in the world"? It's completely meaningless. Neil is brilliant, as are a hell of a lot of other drummers. What he does better than most though is combine expression, groove and technicality. Feck off with the "best drummer" labels! :)

  • the closest thing planet earth has to a super hero

  • the closest thing plant earth has to a superhero

  • GREATEST DRUMMER OF ALL TIME!

  • You'd really have to peruse Neil's entire recorded legacy before you could comment on him being an overrated drummer. First, part of greatness is longevity. He has been a musical force for nearly 40 years. Second, there are moments of his recordings that are downright inhuman. Third, almost ALL of his recordings have merit. There is nearly NO song recorded by Neil that doesn't offer something new. You'd have to look far to find someone so uniquely creative over so many years.

  • @kjseager you are a gentlemen and a scholar, i couldnt agree more. there are fragile moments in his recordings where he totally changes the mood AND direction of a song by a slight alteration of his godliness

  • Let me give you people who think Neil is over rated a little reminder. with out him, A LOT of people would of not picked up those drum stick and started playing. its the way he composes his solo's and songs that makes him so great. it may not be the most technical drum soloist, but his solo's back in the day where relentless.

  • Neil is about as exciting as watching a Robot play drums.

  • It's only fitting that they had Neil on for the finale.

  • with all due respect, and with zero hatred, i say this about neil peart ...................the most overrated drummer in history. he isn't terrible, he isn't bad, he is actually kind of good, but he is without a doubt the most overrated drummer i have ever heard or seen

  • @leftpuman Overrated? Really? Let me guess, you think the drummer from Blink 182 is better? Or some other retarded thought perhaps?

  • @WarMachine77 your guess is wrong sir, blink 182 does nothing for me. i say that NP is overrated because he doesn't do anything special. his moeller isn't elite, his poly's are not elite, i apologize if i offended you, you're obviously a huge fan of his but he is nowhere close to elite. i have nothing against him he seems like a really nice guy but drum are my specialty and i know the difference between bad, good, great, and elite, and NP is a good drummer. God bless you

  • @leftpuman ur an idiot..u should sleep late

  • @tony1238 God bless u sir

  • @leftpuman no not offended at all. You're first comment was just so vague I couldnt understand where you were coming from. Who do you consider is at the top? Just curious.

  • @WarMachine77 as far as drummers who are still alive, antonio sanchez, chris coleman, horacio hernandez, jojo mayer, dave weckl, tomas haake, gary novak, kiko freitas, just to name a few. neil peart is a very good drummer indeed, i just have to respectfully disagree that he is the best drummer in the whole world, which i hear ppl saying a lot, but to each his own

  • @Iluvu2jesus if we're talking technically then I guess I would have to say no. But you would probably be a better judge than me. With my personal tastes, I'm more interested in how they apply their craft. You could be the greatest drummer, guitarist, bassist, etc., but unless you apply it in a unique way, you are only showing one part of an equation. As much as I enjoy jazz, I'm not a die hard fan. I enjoy guys like, Danny Carey, Tim Alexander, Raymond Herrera. Just to name a few :)

  • @WarMachine77 those are all very good drummers indeed

  • @Iluvu2jesus And how many of those drummers play with RUSH?

  • I'm a roadie, and all I can think of is how long it took to set that up.

    hell.

  • , ,,, in allm of rock and roll.. that getsn me hard..

  • This whole page is gross...Somehow politics has something to do with the best drummer alive, showing up as a finale to a tribute to great drummers..Get your heads out of your ass..Or maybe I should because from what I have read, politics is everything....Give me a break

  • Legendary.

  • NEIL PEART ATE MY GFs BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dwilmer7 give proof and documents and i might come to the think of preparing to prepare to thinking about might losing a very small portion of respect towards my hero. in other words i don't give much shit

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sad that you guys just argue like spoiled, entitled narcissists.

  • its Neal Peart (peert) not piert....you dumb ass

his only been around for 40 yrs dave

  • the best thing about reading music is the symbol for 'rests'

  • at any moment all of the untouched drums

the kokopelli award geauxs 2 bubba

  • stump dat who dat band with didacts and narpets already ffs

  • shovelready, steampunk?

  • How can Neil perform on such a liberal scum filled show as Letterman? My opinion of Peart has just been lowered.

  • Comment removed

  • @darkstonecastle i agree it's liberal and i wouldn't watch letterman if it wasn't for a performance by the best drummer ever, rush needs it's due whether it be liberal or conservative. don't be so close minded

  • @smegmalip dave letterman and i dropped acid back in 1974 when jimmy carter and that elivis alien were also there.... oh not, not again.

  • where is Carl Palmer when you need him...

  • @borodrewman74-no, i'm referring to the fact the Neil plays with NO FEEL, hence the name No Feel Neil. here's a list short list of drummers who play with feel and put poor NO FEEL NEIL to shame: Jimmy Cobb, Tony Williams, Harvey Mason, Al Jackson Jr., Pistol Allen, Elvin Jones, Brian Downey, Ringo Starr, John Bonham, Danny Carey, Mike Shrieve, Zigaboo Modeliste, Dave Garabaldi...the list goes on and on.

  • @mdhf i'm sorry sir, but for you to even imply that Neil isn't as good as Ringo Star is absolutely rediculouse. Neil has feelm as you can clearly say he is playing jazz at the end which is all about feel. anyway just thought i'd point out that if you think Neil isn't as good as Ringo Star you have some seriouse problems.

  • @JonBatemanMusic18 LOL, good one. Let's have your boy Neil jump into Mr. Peabody's "Wayback Machine" and set the dial for 1964. Neil shows up to audition for Miles Davis' 2nd great band. unfortunately for your guy Neil, Tony Williams is there as well. Neil walks home, rejected, with a bump on his forehead where Miles hit him with his trumpet. If Neil sat in the chair during Sgt. Pepper, we'd have shit instead of a MASTERPIECE.

  • @mdhf I'm sure any of the drummers you mentioned will disagree with you.

  • @Biaxident0 really? how sure are you? if you can find time between faping over No Feel Neil and moderating a Star Wars forum, give a listen to Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue or Nefertiti then come back here and tell me how wrong you were.

  • @mdhf You look like John Goodman. What a fat, ill-shapen cunt you are!

  • @irena7777777 boohooo you made me cry with your mean words. oh, one more thing. Neil and those wankers you mentioned in your first post are not worthy to chew on the toenail clippings of Tiki Fulwood. and as for you young man, i am fully aware that i am fat, and you are not the first to point out that i somewhat resemble John Goodman. was your response regarding these issues meant to hurt my feelings? sorry, you FAIL. but i suppose you are use to FAILing.

  • @mdhf I obviously didn't help improve your punctuation, anyway. You are also tone-deaf. Altogether, quite an unfortunate character.

  • @mdhf Yah i'm sure because any of the drummers you mentioned wouldn't waste their time saying they can play with more feel than another drummer. Music isn't a competition, and any good musician knows that.

  • @mdhf Those drummers are crap compared to Peart, Palmer, Gavin Harrison and Bill Bruford. Shut your fucking pie-hole, bitch

  • @irena7777777 nice reply. Jesus just killed a kitten because of your words. i'll type this slowly for you. this discussion is about No Feel Neil, not Palmer or Harrison or Bruford. Now, if you want to compare No Feel Neil to a real jazz drummer like Philly Joe Jones or Jimmy Cobb, my i first suggest visiting an audiologist to test your hearing then a Psychiatrist to test your mental capacity.

  • @mdhf What difference does it make how quickly you typed that message? I can't read it until after you've typed and sent it so that attempt at being clever backfired! What a degenerate fucker you are!

  • @irena7777777 such language. are you unable to type an intelligent reply without resorting to profanity and ad hominem attacks? I'm guessing you are the mental equivalent to No Feel Neil's drumming: robotic and poorly thought out. Just because one plays a 50+ piece kit doesn't make one a great drummer. Ben Riley playing with Monk (search function is your friend), plays with feel and a deep groove on a 4 piece kit.

  • @mdhf Said he who finds it impossible to construct a proper sentence and who's punctuation and faux-intellectual grammar leaves much to be desired. Met so many dullards like yourself on you tube, sitting leafing through your thesaurus, striving to concoct your next ill-conceived quip. The goal being to impress, the result being something quite different. Oscar Wilde, you are not. Dictionary dimwits are ten a penny - never eloquent and always embarrasing.

  • @mdhf Said he who finds it impossible to construct a proper sentence? What's with the faux-intellectual grammar you seem to hold so dear? What a dullard! Met so many dimwits of your ilk on you tube, it's beginning to get a bit tedious. Sitting leafing through your thesaurus, searching for the right (or, wrong, in your case) words to use in concocting your next ill-conceived quip. Dull as dishwater, and quite embarrasingly unoriginal. Reading your comments makes my toes curl. What a pompous twat

  • @mdhf Peart is not a groove or swing drummer. If he played the piano he would play classical and not jazz.

  • Poor sound. I guess union regulations stipulated that the in-house sound chump had to mix! Mind you, this could be a poor copy too.

  • Neil Peart is for me the best drummer who have live in this worls ever! Thanks man for your solos, songs, lyrics and everything you did for Rush which is one of the greatest band ever!

  • Worst Ride Cymbal ever!!!! Playing this Sabian Paragon Ride Cymbal in person is actually great, it's just in this video...YUCK

  • "No Feel Neil" strikes again. They shoulda booked Terry Bozzio.

  • @mdhf What do you mean no feel Neil? If you are refering to the fact that there isn't a metric feel it's because he changes the meter almost constantly. That's one of the things that makes him one of the greatest, if not the greatest, drummer of all time.

  • @mdhf buddy pick up a pair of sticks and see how much feel it takes to play what he does.

  • I think Buddy would be proud of Neil. I am. When I was in high school, (78-82) I thought Neil was the best. I was wrong. Then he re-learned drumming in the late 90's. I am accustomed to jazz snobs who think that jazz drummers are the only "real" drummers. Neil went there, did that. Also learned about African drumming. Now I feel justified in saying that Neil is the real deal. If there is a better overall drummer, or one better at the solo, please let me know.

  • Amazing, he transitions between classic rock, to a funky style to a jazz ... truely the best drummer around ...

  • The sound mix was horrible...it's like they threw a couple of mics on the drums and went for it. Neil rocked it as usual.... nobody can knock anyone in rush for what those 3 guys have done and who they've inspired over the years. True Icons

  • Poor Neil, age is catching up with him. Hes slowing down quite a bit , but you still gotta love'em. I hope hes not having health problems. Hes still one of the greatest of all time.

  • I think Neil's biggest strides as a drummer was working on the Buddy Rich project where he learned a new vocabulary. Constantly learning constantly striving is why he is so great.

  • if neil was playing sheila e's kit, it would have shattered into pieces; neil is doing alot of other things with his feet while his arms/wrists are moving all over the kit(s) or so ive been told; would have liked to have seen him open with the 3/4 section like he has been at his concerts; it wasnt his best performance but then again, this was a real stretch for him as he is widely known as being very private and reclusive; still, sheila e was great

  • what is this? stump the band? let's see , it's canadian, it starts with a tour de lis? could it be Old Turkey Buzzard? Flying.. flying high?

  • Inside every Prog Rock drummer is a Jazz drummer waiting to burst out!

  • He's really slowing down in his old age. It's like he only has the energy of three 18 year-olds these days.

  • If there's a fire he's gonna have a hell of a time getting out of that kit.

  • I can't believe there is still a debate about how "Peart" is pronounced. Neil himself set the record straight about 16 years ago in a syndicated radio interview. Plus, he has made it more clear since then in all of his books. Earlier this week, Dave pronounced it as "Pert", which is why he did the "Peart Plus" shampoo bottle gag last night.

  • Wuz Gr8 Lastnight; Canadian Drum ~ Legend ! <:

  • Simply the best...

  • Portnoy rules!!!!!!!

  • @sswanny1 Are you HIGH?...wait your a Portnoy fan of course your high...hey, I dig little Mikey too but have you ever seen Mike try to cop a Neil....emmmmm...it aint happen'n buddy. Check out Mike's attempt at a Neil solo on youtube...(the one where he looks like Michael McDonald). He falls way short of the task...again I really dig Mike. So, to you and O'Malley he may be a genius but to a genius like Neil....he no genius!

(Time Machine tour goers get it)

  • @keenanX1 Same thing goes around for Neil Peart and Buddy Rich. It's all relative.
