But when you start getting up to like 80% your max, tnen you should start pulling/squatting with a belt. The belt is basically a teaching aid, it should be used to teach he/she on how to push there abs out to create stability. When used correctly it can be very effective.
Roid heads also use knee wraps, bench shirts and lastly back belts. The body is perfectly made and if your form is good enough you should never need assistive devices. If it hurts without it, your core isn't strong enough.

Here is some better advice. Only use a belt on your top sets. You shouldn't need a belt for anything other than squats and deadlifts, maybe bent-over rows if your back is torched from a heavy deadlift session.
