Only thing I can think of after having it for several months now is that it does run a little loud when I play Vanguard: SOH on max everything. Other than that, it's pretty good.. And I have confirmed there is space to put a better card in there if you ever wanted to in the future. Good luck, let me know how it works out!
Also, if you plan on Overclocking, you need to buy a new mobo since the mobo only supports up to 1333 mhz FSB, and the intel CPU is already at 1333 mhz. I had to buy a motherboard worth about $60 more than the stock one so I could OC the Intel Q9300 CPU to 3.0 ghz. The best RAM you can use is 1066 mhz DDR2, but I prefer using 800 mhz RAM because of the 1:1 ratio w/regards to FSB and RAM speed. I bought it for 750, and the upgrades cost me $200 extra overall (after rebates and selling old parts).
Just because the motherboard only officially supports 1333 FSB doesn't mean you can't go over that. The true limitation is going to be in the gateway BIOS, which I'm guessing doesn't allow you to adjust your FSB.
I bought the same computer refurbished and with 4GB RAM instead of 6GB, but it really isn't that upgradeable. The best graphics card you can get on it is from the GTX 200 series-and it only takes 1 graphics card because of the micro ATX motherboard (about 2.5" smaller in L and W). If you DO add a GTX 200 series g.c., then you will have to move the Hard Drive 2 bays over so it will fit (HUGE).
This Gateway model comes with the Graphics Card pre-overclocked. Other than that, I've never really looked into overclocking so I couldn't tell you how to do it manually.
Well i got a gf8800 gtx, 4 gigs of ram, intel core 2 duo e6600 and i also can play vanguard with the highest settings with good fps. So your system is not that uber hehe.
Never said it was uber lol. Sure, you can blow a crapload of money on something better. However, this one is a great bang for its buck, and it with 7GB of RAM and 4 cores, it may be overkill on those parts for now, but in the future when games take advantage of more of that, it will already be ready and the only thing you MAY need to upgrade will be the graphics card.
i plan on getting this PC for Christmas but its refurbished and only has 4gb of ram and im hoping that it will do fine, thankfully i can upgrade ram for a fairly cheap price
4GB of RAM is about the high gamer average right now. Like I said, 6GB is kind of overkill for now, but yeah - the expandibility of this PC will allow you to upgrade in the future should you ever need to.
If you know no one that can build pc's then maybe....maybe get this. But it's not worth it, most games don't utilize 4 cores fully yet and 2.5 ghz is rather low. A dual core overclcocked is much better, and the 9800gt is really a middle of the road card and wont do the job if you use high resolutions...heck my 8800gtx still outperforms the 9800 series. And you dont need 6gb of RAM in a computer yet unless it's used as a server, 4gb is fine. I get 40fps in cities in VG with a dual core cpu.
This system plays all current games out there fine for the average to high end gamer. Plus, future games will start to take advantage of quad and dual cores more, so why not be future safe? 4 cores being utilized at 2.5gHz will eventually outdo even games utilizing 2 cores at 3.0+gHz. 9000 and 8000 series from Nvidia are the same, so yes your card would - The 9800GT and Radeon HD 4850 are a great bang for their buck in the mid range, and if they play the games fine why get more expensive?
Furthermore, yes I 100% agree that 6GB of RAM is overkill, but the price for performance ratio of this PC is still great, even with some overkill features like this. Again though, programs may utilize more RAM to store volatile information in the future, so again - Future safe. This computer is basically set up to perform well on resolutions as high as 1680x1050 (highest I've tested). The only things I would see maybe needing to be upgraded in the future are Vid Card and Power Supply.

i agree with ya BigS i did a tad investigating before buying, and if one is going to put in the trick high end vid card, they will definitely need a new PSU. i am going to drop in a case fan and an extra 2 gig of RAM that i happened to have...future-safe'.
400 watts, so the 9800 is about the max it can handle; any more, and one will just have to update it. i did look in the case, would be a snap. Also noticed that its a Foxconn G33 mobo.
No problems so far I'm about 2-3 weeks in now, and been running it alot. I've played Vanguard on max settings for up to 10 hours straight before (Yes I took breaks but I left this graphic intensive game running the whole time) and no problems, not even a hiccup.
My friend has a computer with the same graphics card that can run Crysis at High/Ultra with a decent frame rate, and keep in mind the card in the FX is OVERCLOCKED, meaning even more performance. :)
do you have to pay monthly?

I checked this out, and it's true - It's refurbished, but that's not really a big deal, considering you're saving about $400. Good find jbs68!

Right on mate - Good call on the PSU, couldn't remember what the wattage was on the default one but yeah. Case fan is a good call too.
