The parting of the way We Grieve the parting of the way The sorrow will tomorrow bring Our lives together ends today We grieve the parting of the way. How cruel can the gossip be The things their saying about me And you believe everything they say We Grieve the parting of the way. I hope their happy when they see Just what they've done to you and me For all those lies we both must pay, We Grieve the parting of the way.
They are so beautiful in this video. I agree they should make a movie about the Carter family. I bet it would be difficult to cram it all in the couple of hours a typical movie lasts, they certainly made their mark in music. It would be an awesome movie, though.
Love this video... I always get a good laugh out of it though because you can see in the beginning they were standing a bit too far apart and then Anita sorta pulls them closer in and Mother Mabel gives her a sideways glance...LOL
@hiu1787 That's my favorite part. Mother Mabel almost stumbles when she does it and yet never misses a beat. Love the half smile she gives her. I can almost hear them laughing about it afterwards.
@maggiebowman - all but a couple of words: We’ve reached the parting of the ways. What sorrow will tomorrow bring? Our lives together end today. We’ve reached the parting of the ways. How cruel can the gossip be - The things they’re saying about me? And you believe everything they say. We’ve reached the parting of the ways. I hope they’re happy when they see Just what they’ve done to you and me. For (all through life?) (awful lies?) we both must pay. We’ve reached the parting of the ways.

This is incredible footage. Thankfully this is preserved. It does not get better than this. Until I viewed this on you tube I never realized how great they were. My grandmother saw them in Georgia in the 1940's and always said how wonderful they were. I've been a Bluegrass musician for almost 40 years and their talent and harmony rivals the best of todays music. Butch Mason Troy Michigan
The Carter girls (even Sara and Maybelle) were really beautiful when they were young, but the family didn't age well in my opinion. I can see what Johnny Cash saw in June though, if only Hank Williams had had Anita to help him through his tough times ...
I agree with that. Anita was gorgeous but because of her illness she became almost unrecognizable when she was older. Maybelle didn't age well either. When she was 60 she looked 10 years older than my mother looks now at 70. They all died fairly young, so sad
I do agree also, but you have to realize what they gave to the world and how much it took out of them. I mean they toured for years almost non-stop. Even when June had went to New York in the 50's and Helen and Anita were both married, Maybelle went out on her own with her Guitar and Autoharp. She played at family reunions and little venues like that, but music was thier life, it didn't matter if they sang to 5 or 5000 people. Awesome human beings and wonderful people
I grew up on country music, and Mother maybelle and the carter family was my favorite. This is also my favorit song, it was from Tribute, Grand Ole Opry Stars Of The Fabulous Fifties. Love, Love , Love it, thanks, Lenny

The girl in the middle is Anita Carter - Helen and Junes younger sister.

the third girl should have been a model. I have noticed her on some album covers and wonder why they didn't put her in the spotlight.
