I agree ajsiegler. Even dave grohl said (in an interview) that he doesn't think of Nirvana as a "legacy" or a legendary band because they were just a couple of guys who loved creating music.
I trust his opinion since he and Krist were the only 2 people in the band (besides Pat sometimes and a couple of drummers in the past). They had the best perspective since they really KNEW Kurt.
