Cool! I was wondering about this. Koreans r like the Irish of Asia. I wonder if it's still this way today. When I visited Seoul the police block the streets and breathilize each driver.
Only thing I hated about getting a beer in Japan -- for some reason Japanese love a lot of head, so you would get beer with like 2-3 inches of head. Drove me nuts as an American. Had any experience with this?
Liked that story! Sort of reminded me of my first open drink in Japan. At a parade in Tokyo my Japanese friends and I were given a little cup of free beer from some beer co. Anyway, we proceeded to walk down the street, me giddy as could be at drinking out in the open like that. But then I looked down the street and saw 2 cops walking up the street...and Cdn that I am, my heart rate went up, I was almost sweating, and immediately hid my beer behind my back. I never lived it down!
I really enjoyed your story! I especially liked the way you narrated as you walked, giving us a nice glimpse of your surroundings while enjoying your story. Thank you for sharing! -Kurt :-)
man i remember thinking the same thing about japan. and everywhere i went with the beer i kept thinking....well surely i cant drink it...ON THE TRAIN?! and again when i found i could it blew my mind. i remember holding the beer can low and at my side for a month before i finally got comfortable with the idea. aaa, natsukashi ne.
wow so then they get pretty rowdy then too. correct me if i am wrong but i have heard stories that alot break out into fights and that almost all koreans practice some sort of martial art so it can get pretty brutal.
They can get pretty rowdy that is for sure. Fights are VERY common, but rarely do they come to blows. Korean guys tend to just yell at other a lot and there's a lot of macho posturing! True bout the martial arts though....most Korean men do mandatory military service and study Tae Kwon Do during their time in the army.
I guess it was nothing, nevermind i was getting a little dizzy from the background movement i like to see the background when i see your vids cause i like to get a little taste of the real japan in your clips! LOL Love your vids keep it up!!
Hey there....glad you like the little tour of Japan! I think I turned at that point cause I just walked into a small parking lot and there was nowhere for me to go!
you know in Canada? Do they speak english or canadian? or whatever the language is you speak over there lol. message me back, not on this comment board though, comment me on my channel. thanks x btw, you have some cool vids.
Convenience store beer is my favorite kind. It eliminates the necessity of assuming a seated posture and the confusion of social interaction in a "bar"..
Interesting story :) It's similar in Western Australia as well. You can't take alcohol from a licensed premises outside of the premises and drink it etc...
well even if they didn't have open alcoholic i doubt they enforce it as well as we would. when i took a trip to Asia 2 years ago, i was slightly underage and my cousins told me to go the convenience store and buy a beer, I'm thinking omg what if they call the cops , I walk in grab a six pack (cans) and go to the cashier she and pay, i was all wtf OMG, cause in Canada it would be impossible to by beer at my age.
Your story if arriving in Korea sounds similar to what my experience will probably be.
I have traveled around the U.S. and been on a few trips to the Bahamas and stuff when I was younger. I am pretty sure my first real tip abroad will be to Asia (likley Japan). I will also be flying from Halifax, and I'll probably want to crack a beer once i get there :)
I won't graduate university for a few years, but i'm excited just thinking about living in Asia in the future.
I wonder if that is a common trick the school owners use. Put the foreigner up in a love motel for a few nights. haha
Many people I know are very against the open liquor laws in Canada. But the thing is, I think too many Canadians (maritimers in particular) would just spend all day getting belligerently drunk.
Great story, I love all your video but I particularily enjoy the stories.
Yeah they have that law in Oz & only sell alcohol in licensed stores...so I love it when I get over to Japan & can buy it anywhere & drink it anywhere within reason : )
Another great video Kevin. They put you up in a love hotel for your first night there that is funny as hell. That is a difference beteween Japanese and Korean I guess, I just can"t imagine that LOL,, So are they as nice as the one's in Japan? How is Korea as compaired to Japan? I was also surprised about the open beer when I 1st moved to Japan at 18y/o and could drink and in public no less, crazy times. Beer machines were everywhere then, now I have a harded time finding them these days.
It was indeed to "scare cats away." It's called "nekko mizu" or "cat water." I personally think it couldn't possibly work, but others apparently beg to differ!
Heh, cat water. I guess it's true that cats don't like to get wet. Maybe they should put bark from a tree on the street. Yea, some bark from a dogwood tree...XD

japan is kinda of a mono culture, however Canada is pretty diverse. So you need more police enforcement to keep society in control.
