"Fiddlededee or fiddlededum?" Now, does he say "Because it's spelled with more e's!", meaning the joke would be "eesier".
OR
does he say "Because it's spelled with more ease!" meaning it would be easier to spell, at the same time the "ease" is the joke with the "e's"? I'm confused?
I share the same birthday as Frank Gorshin, and I'm proud of it. I've been a fan of the '60s Batman show, since I was 4 and to me they nailed the cast of heroes and villains with great precision. If I were a Batman villain I'd either be the Riddler or the Joker. I know for a fact that my play on words and my knack for outrageous (if sometimes distasteful) humor has kept me going this far in life.
@Stickman1044 Not really considering Neil Patrick Harris is a broadway actor and pulls of way harder stuff in his episode. Frank is amazing in this but he's not showing off any amazing singing skills save for him being incredibly in character. Not dissing Frank Gorshin though, Frank was and will always be amazing.
I grew up with reruns of this show when i was 7/8 in the year of Burton's Batman and that year i became a fan of Batman, i enjoyed this show and it was fun. Gorshwin was awesome and even John Glover made a great riddler
@TheStealthX His laugh is contagious, if nothing else. The "Fiddle-D-D/Dum...spelled with more Ease/E's" made me laugh because it was one of the only one's that I actually got. that one and the "cats and dogs" one.
(CONT.) I recall thinking when Batman Forever was about to be released: If there is anyone alive who can even come close to matching what Gorshin did with this (really, totally ordinary) character, it was Jim Carrey; but it didn't happen. I saw a little Jerry Lewis, a little David Bowie, and little that was particularly original or good.
GREAT song!!! Love The Riddler's insane giggling! Pretty good singing voice, too.."I'll puzzle you a puzzle or quiz you a quiz, I'm gonna keep ya guessin' like NObody's business, WHOO! I'm a whiz, and my name is the Riddler!"
The best of then all. I plan to customise my Vespa scooter in tribute. Vivid green, covered in ???????s, and pictures of Frank, and call it "Riddle me this"
@marvelguy14 I totally agree. When Gorshin was on screen he elevated that campy show above its usual silliness--while on-the-other-hand being funnier than anyone else on the show. HE wasTHE arch-foe on that program. I think that it was because comic-book writers and artists weren't ever able to come up with ANYTHING to match his brilliance which lead them to totally change the character in the books. How great of a Joker would a young Frank Gorshin have made in a recent film!?
@Ken9284 Yeah, Frank Gorshin did indeed do this song in 1966. It came out on a single on A&M Records that year...unfortunately, no, it's not in the 1966 movie...too bad it (this song) wasn't a bigger hit! Gorshin does the flip side of this song ("Never Let Her Go") more-or-less straight, and sounds great even as a "serious" singer as well.
Hey guys watch this! Behold my ability to express my like for the Frank Gorshin Riddler without bringing up anyone else's name! I adore his role as the Riddler, truly brought his own unique touch to the character. Awesome.
@VirginPrince Though I dug Romero's Joker to a point, I LOVED Gorshin. Romero was mainly a glorified TV host who starred in some AWFUL films like Lost Continent. Hell, modern Jokers, as good as they are, are pretty much Gorshin's Riddler minus the riddles.
People are saying the riddler shouldn't be in the next batman movie because he's just a scaled down version of the joker... if that be the case I blame Frank. What's with all the laughing man?
I used to tend bar at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn and Frank would come in. This was in 2004, a year before he passed away. Not the wild and zany character like the ones he often portrayed. In fact, a bit grouchy, but hey ,he had to be about seventy, what do you expect. Can't say he was a bad guy. He always ordered a chardonnay and sat out on the patio and enjoy it along with a cigarette.
True, you can never improve what was the original, it would only be a different character. Jim Carrey was hilarious, but the I thought his Riddler was kinda creepy, I think I only liked Jim, not the character. I actually like the character when I saw Gorshin
@maxharleyrogerson Really? I like em both but never saw it that way. I have to watch Carrey again (just saw once when it came out), and didn't think to consider that. Did he say so in an interview? I can just see Carrey recognizing the opportunity to do so and grabbing it. If not him imitating Gorshin, then who? Especially cuz I dont think he'd ever even, say, done a GorshinRiddler-esque character on "In Living Color", even. (btw I just remembered John Astin as The R. Wow!)
hadnt heard this ..frank was my fave batman baddie..seem to remember a comedy skit about a bomb where frank was tied to a chair & he was impersoating kirk douglas & burt lancaster talking to each other
"Fiddlededee or fiddlededum?" Now, does he say "Because it's spelled with more e's!", meaning the joke would be "eesier".
