Do you mean Alexey Pajitnov? That is not fair on him. Nintendo should do the right thing and award him generously.

Mr. Pajitnov had to give the rights to the Soviet Union, which was the only way they would allow Nintendo to produce the game, and Pajitnov didn't make any money. Years later the Tetris Company claimed the rights and they started giving royalties to Pajitnov. Now he makes money off of all the official tetris games, including Tetris DS and Tetris Party for Wii.

It's a shame he didn't make money for a long time, but it was because of the policies of the Soviet Union.

And in the old days Nintendo cared for merchandise protection by providing clear plastic cases for all their handheld games, even advising consumers to put them in when not in use. But ever since the Game Boy Color days (to the Advance and DS era) they quietly dropped the plastic protective cases and any mention of them whatsoever.

The Nintendo Entertainment System version (not the Tengen one that is bleh) is only slightly better as it has color, but the Game Boy Compact Video Game System one, has superior sound, better controls and a character of its own.

Reminds me of the summer of 1989. My youngest niece (10 at that time) came to visit me and she had that new gameboy. Oh, how did I wait for her to go to bed so I could play with her gameboy . Tetris was my favourite. She used to complain that the batteries were always gone in the morning ;-)
