  • That box is bigger on the inside.

  • @R3Cat It must be a TARDIS...

  • @jesselawenforcement YES. HAHA. XD

  • @R3Cat Very YES!!!! lol :D

  • How did people live with this quality?

  • turn on the CC....very....different!

  • could you do an instrumental version to this song???

  • one of his greatest i tell you hwat

  • great rapper

  • this is beast

  • ... Qwanoes

  • 'close minded free thinking hipsters'

    lol oxyyymooroooon

  • Am I the only one who catches myself singing this song for the rest of the day? o.o"

  • @0hDangItsM3 No, Reuben is one of my very favorite artist. This song is on my mental playlist a lot!

  • @slyjose101 I hope your kidding. I mean, anyone can interpret a song how they want, but if you really listen to this song and the whole album it's from, this really doesn't have anything to with religion specifics. It's about being an original human being and not trying to follow the crowd. Wearing, listening to, and doing what you like. JR is trying to say don't waste your time trying to be like/liked by others and do your own thing. Basically, don't be a brown square ...

  • @ToWhateverEnd55 I think you are both right. How i interpret it is that the music notes is the media industry that influences us and puts is in a box and tells us we are supposed to dress, act, ect.. a certain way. And it takes away our identity and puts us in a box. And (especially as christians) we try to fight it. And you see the blue guy finally get out of the box and fights back with his ideas and beliefs and starts to beat them at their own game

  • @ToWhateverEnd55 Hey, man, that's a great interpretation. And no I'm not kidding. You interpret it in that a way and I interpret it in my way. Both have good meaning do it's all right.

  • @slyhose101 I hope your kidding. I mean anyone can interpret a song however he or she wants. But, if you really listen to this song and the whole album its from, it's pretty obvious that this isn't about religion at all. It's about being you're own, unique person and not just trying to do whats cool. Wear, listen to, and do things that are original and don't waste your energy trying to be like/liked by everyone else. Basically don't be a brown square ...

  • @slyjose101 thanks!! :)

  • Like the video but a little confused. Help anybody?

  • @Swimmerchik4god The blue guy is Jesus. The orange, Satan. The brown musical notes are sins. The white clouds are belief in God. Satan sends out sin to eat at the people's belief in God and turn them into sinners. Jesus is attempting to clean up sin. Satan is winning so far but... Jesus traps him in the box (I believe it's hell) and when he's confronted by the two large sin monsters (everbody's sin combined) and let's himself be turned into a sinner. But since sin ate Satan everybody is saved.

  • The part near the end where the blue guy (God) traps the orange guy (Satan in the box and seals him in (like God imprisoning Satan in Hell) always gives me chills and excites me. No matter how many times I watch it, it always has the same effect.

  • This is so surreal in a symbolic and awesome way.

  • "I need to know something. I need you to tell me straight up how you feel. Do you like me or not?" lol luv it. ;]

  • I remember a few years ago, my English teacher in college showed my class this vid in one lesson. Have been addicted to this song since.

  • I saw this guy at Lifelight and I forgot this song was by him :) It was so awesome to see him.

  • i love how the blue guy was turned into a box but was still blue. he looked like everyone else but still had his identity. i also liked at the end how everyone came out of their box and were colored many different colors instead of the shades of yellow and brown used previously. the symbolism used in this video is amazing :)

  • ahh! havnt seen this in forever!!! love this song!!! :D

  • freakay

  • I love this song man

  • heard this song on the tv the other day

    good stuff!

  • At the end, I honestly thought someone else in my house was laughing .. LOL

  • @1781353 lol nice username very original lol

  • He has awesome songs, and with excellent lyrics! And he's so much fun in concert! :) ♥

  • It always bugs me when people make awesome music like this and it gets ignored :( This song is awesome, true, and unique. All these would normally equal instant classic or seller, but no one knows of it except John's fans and casual new commers to him. Sad, sad, very-sad that true talent gets ignored by the radio men.

  • I keep saying this but Asher Roth bit his whole style off this dude.

  • i love this song. the video is entertaining and deep :) woooot!

  • I wonder who would win in a rap off between John Reuben and Matisyahu. lol X] Both are awesome men.

  • this song is epic

  • this guy reminds me of asher roth.. only better? maybe..

  • go to pirate bay then...

  • uh do it legally.... iTunes

  • You can see in the video that the blue guy (is he blue because he's depressed?) tries to escape in a rocket. But the system, the giant hungry spider catches up with him and steals his ideas and forced him to conform again.

Also towards the end the blue guy tricks the system by feeding it a box instead of one of his own original ideas. The system collapses and everyone escapes. It's a happy positive ending to give us hope.

  • i dont get the video. explain

  • @ppdog27

    This is my interpretation.

It's about how the media and corporations control are culture, and society. They turn every original ideal into a products to sell it back to us. They also conform us into categories, and labels (boxes) to market products.

Creative people that think outside the box are squashed, or forced to conform. The cycle continues, the system keeps on feeding off of us, stealing out culture, and our ideas.

  • ah crrrap! Sorry about the typos.

  • saw him live 2 days in a row its an amazing show

  • Nicew video, when I heard people laughing at the end.. I thought it was my parents.. 0.0

  • 3:02 Awesome ninja powers

  • i like the chorus

  • @StratProductions The chorus reminds me SO much of that old Modest Mouse song "Float On"....I wonder which came first.

  • @StratProductions I like the... everything about this song.

  • reuben is the best

  • The vid reminds me of "The Brave Little Toaster"

  • So every person will have the same thoughts! /guy, who is sucking a lollipop become the same, so outside, like inside/ So it is more easyer, to sell everything for people!

Blissfully there is always someone, who breaks out, who can spurn this mentality, also the pessimistics, who sucks your great ideas and your cheer! /small brown flying thing/

It is a shame, but the sick mentality grow faster, than optimism, so they come back and try to kill us again! /a big spider grow up/

  • If we want, we can do it and we can brake out again-again and again, despite they want to lock us into a box /he let fly by a spaceship/

But all in all, the cheerful and dreamful man always wins, if not in a short period, but in a long way! /blue guy win and close the brown one to his own trap/

The dreams won the battle against the pessimism and the obscurantism.

All in all, JUST DREAM IT, DO IT AND NEVER EVER GIVE UP!!!

  • Dear John Reuben,

I love you. Your Music is beautiful. You are so cool and crazy creative. Please keep it up!

    ~Ja'Kqui Sol~

  • Good one

  • Ever since the first time i saw this video i got adicted. Kept singing this song over and over in my head lol

  • LOVE IT

  • I love this song very catchy John reuben is the rapper rappers should strive to be he has good music with good messages and some very good singing to

  • Why did the blue did feed John Reuben to the monster?

  • John Reuben is representing an oppressive authority. This is reflected off of the lyrics.

  • @punkduck123

John Reuben was a "new" out-of-the-box idea, that the blue guy sold to a corporation to reproduce, categorize, and market. Making the idea unoriginal again.

The music industry in one of the best examples of this behavior.

I think John Reuben was the blue guy's idea, and the blue guy just represents an average white collar working guy trying to survive in our society and being forced to conform.

  • this song is great!

    the video is funny!

when i hear the song i see someone walking and through the video little short clips are being shown to expain the song points.

  • seems like its about the kind of music that artists let out nowadays to get people to like them, and how the music industry takes people's ideas, and how the fans are affected, etc...

  • ohhhh thanks ! after i saw this i actually understood the video... i was wondering where he was going with this whole thing...

  • you're welcome. its just an opinion though the song is pretty ambiguous

  • this song seems like what disney's doing with its money and public

  • yes finally heard john on air 1 107.1 my music station the only christian channel in kentucky nuisance

  • aw dude, but this video is so cute xD

But hay the music is awesome too

  • I Love This Song

But I Dont The Vid xD

  • Boy this song gave me some memories...very strange, i can't even recall what they are...

  • i agree the bass is awsome, and this is such a weird video lol

  • the bassline is damn cool!

  • thank U for posting this. ive been looking for this for a long time.i love this song!

  • ummmmmmmm confused

  • I've seen 2 approaches to adressing the story in this.

    1. It's religious, Brown guy is Satan, Blue is Jesus, Brown guy sends out his minions, sins essentially to convert people to him, and the blue guy liberates everybody from the brown guy and ends up sacrificing himself.

    2. The 1984 approach. The brown guy is trying to surpress free thought (The squigly thoughts) and replace them with the same old thoughts (Brown blocks) and the blue guy dares to think differently.

  • the second one kind of fits the song more. I'm pretty sure it's the second one.

  • it kinda reminders me of the book

    1984

  • I just broke 500 comments.

  • can't wait to meet john in heaven

  • me too

  • Go to his concerts! Better yet, come to Sonshine in Minnesota! He often walks around and visits other bands at their booths

  • @americanreeses96 He's not dead yet :P you can still meet him now, no need to wait. he's an awesome guy.

  • @americanreeses96 woah, highest rated comment? I'm flattered :)

  • You'll be meeting hitler, too.

  • @americanreeses96 met the guy at a concert when his newest cd was Hindsight...yea, that was a long time ago...the concert was small, but it was amazing, and rockin..& zappin'! He's a stand up guy!

  • @americanreeses96 also..I meant to say his lyrics & potency are off the chart!

  • @americanreeses96 what he died???

  • @NinjaxPrime not that I know of at least. I'm just sayin- that he's a great artist, and I'm excited to meet him in the future- I've seen him live, but never acutally met him. No no, he hasn't died.

  • @americanreeses96 uhh how bout at a concert? I've met him a couple times before- He has gotta be one of the most down to earth music artists I've ever met!

  • (Continued) The guy in the brown suit sent his two-headed blobs after people because the blue guy let people see what was REALLY happening. Thats the story...Atleast, what I think.

  • The story is that the blue guy represents free thinking, while other workers and others with blocks in there thought bubbles can only think about boring things, squares represent restriction and boredom. Thought bubbles represent peoples thoughts, the guy in the brown suit is trying to restrict everyones thoughts to the cube, and if they refuse, they get turned into a living cube.

  • Aaah kinda inspired by reality, is it not? ;)

  • im insane about this song but whats the point of it?wut is it about?

  • He was thinking about playing with his Dreamcast.

  • super

  • This is an awesome song. John Reuben is a very refined form of hip hop. <3

  • heyy is dippidy on here or how ever you say it i am waiting for my sister to buy me the cd and i want to listen to it......

  • Yeah, i love the song, but seriously. Someone tell me what this song is about.

  • This song is awesome but IM not sure I quite understand the video to be honest :p

  • I love this song alot.

  • Purrty good song. I don't really listen to John that often.

  • i loved you 2days ago i am now tryin 2 find ur cd??....

  • i want to hear more john reu now. like "thank you" or "dippety-doin'" it that's what it's called. haven't heard it in ages. must dig out my old cd

  • what does this song mean?

  • I guess a base reference is the Ecclesiates lament, "There is nothing new under the sun." So each new thing is the same as the old thing in a sense. So all the new talk about the new thing is really just repeating the old talk about the old thing.

John's pretty bitter, albeit constructively, so he throws in his own insecurities about relevancy, other artists' insecurities about self-worth, and the consumer's (us) about keeping up with fad x or y because we invest our inherent value into them.

  • Sorry, that's just an incomplete wordy guess, but I hope it helps.

  • kinda like how skinny jeans are suddenly back in style. O_o :D

  • Comment removed

  • and i love it! ;D

  • I think John Reuben in this video looks like Gene Wilder.

  • i dont get it makes john look like a bad guy...

  • he is

  • are you for real??

  • great song and great video!

  • Great song.

  • JCTV rocks

  • i love this song.

  • yeah johnny reu is awesome..he does that cuz he can..

  • wat

  • john reuben is cool i saw him once

  • to all the ppl that dont know or understand this is a religious song. If you dont want to hear anymore then just dont look at this post. anyway, the orange dude is satan. the blue dude is god. the music note things r sins. the clouds is the religion. what they r doing is clearing gods religion by eating it. God is trying to clear the music notes. satan is winning so far..BUT! as at the end of the song, he sacrifices himself(god as in jesus died) to save everyone from sin! get it? hope I helped!

  • lol i thought for some odd reason the orange dude was john reuben. but yea thanks

  • This is a rly cool song and video!@cutekitty03,judging by the lyrics, I think this video CAN be analagous to the salvation that Christ brought us, but I actually think this song is more an indictment on today's superficial, shallow, me-focussed world lacking in positive creativity and visionary revolutionism, particularly critiquing the music industry(which drives much of the above). He is saying we all had dreams at some stage, but we've let the shallowness of the world steal them from us.

  • Exactly! Thank you!....seriously, thank you so much for accurately understanding the song and its meaning and the video's parallel purpose in conveying that meaning....I really can't tell you how refreshing it is to read both an intelligent and intelligible comment about this song.

Sorry cutekitty03, but it's slightly more complicated than that....it's just not right to oversimplify my boy John Reu like that. Lyricism is an art...it shouldn't be the joke like many people make it out to be.

  • I thought the dude in orange was john reuben. it sure looks like him.

  • THANK YOU MAN I DIDNT GET IT

  • Best explanation of this video ever!

  • Really? I thought it was about being yourself and not allowing somebody to crush your dreams and aspirations.

But, if some stranger on youtube is saying it's about Satan, he must be right. Thank you for expressing yourself, just like the song suggested.

  • I don't think this song is about Satan.

Like what postrero228 said. It's about people who are trying to influence the way you think. That you should think individually and don't follow the crowd.

In other words, be yourself. You have a right to choose who you want to be and what you want to do in your life.

    I hope this helps.

  • It does. Thank you.

  • You're welcome. :)
