I'm kind of curious why the drum major doesn't lead the band through writing Script Ohio like they do on the football field. Is that because some 150 musicians marching the same path through the ice might damage it?
@AngelBearOH Being part of the OSU athletic band.... I'll tell you why. This is the athletic band, not the marching band -- anyone who played an instrument in high school may join the athletic band. That said, the traditional Script Ohio is very difficult and precise, and the athletic band meets only twice a week for an hour. There simply wasn't enough time or skill to perform the legitimate Script Ohio.
Oh, and it sucks marching on ice. It's slippery. :p
@Pineconn It may not be the "actual" Script Ohio, but it's still a pretty cool drill. And the fact that you were able to pull it off so well despite not actually being a marching band just makes it all the more impressive.
People, do you really know what it takes to be in the OSUMB--or for that matter, any of the marching bands for OSU? When I was there in late 80s, the "Military Band" was made up of the people who tried out for OSUMB and were cut and still wanted to march...that is not a slam, that is a compliment to their dedication. In general, most of the OSUMB rows may have only 1 or 2 openings each season and there could be 100+ people trying out for each spot, hence TBDBITL:get your facts straight, please.
We are marching (chair stepping in fact). The OSU Athletic Band does march. In fact, we march in parades, to get anywhere as a group, and it is the Athletic Band and not the marching band that performs every year at the Spring Football Game.
LOL, we are not a typical "pep" band.
Although for Script on Ice, so as not to step on the OSUMB's toes, we form the Script via a scatter drill.
as for stepping on the toes of OSUMB, doing scatter script helps a little.. but its also the fact that the kids couldn't phyisically do a script on turf let alone ice... sooo

they are ....marching with no leg lift because they will fall if they do march. they dont march any differently on ice than they do on firm ground. they are supposed to but in all reality the athletic band can not march..at all....
Sweet! Thanks for posting this video! I can see me from here, lol.
Hate to disappoint...but we're not The Marching Band. We're actually The OSU Athletic Band. The difference is that the Athletic Band is non-audition and we allow woodwinds.
Has it been done on a basketball court?
