Not the Nine O' Clock News' has aged very badly. It is not even in the league of 'Fawlty Towers', which Lennon is right in saying is the greatest show ever.
Lennon was as funny as any comedian. This is from an interview him and Yoko did w/ Andy People's from the BBC 2 days before he was murdered. Listen to the whole interview for serious insight into John's fantastic sense of humor.
@nowheregirl007 It's the album cover to "Two Virgins." You can find it anywhere online. It's a bit underwhelming I'm afraid... poor Yoko! But hey, John would have been the first to say "It ain't the size of the boat, it's the motion of the ocean!"
@dharmaseed Are you for real? Had John seen it coming he would have sacrificed himself to protect his wife. What kind of person would say what you've said? You're not a fan of John Lennon's and he would have been the first to tell you that. What you are is a complete and total jackass and I'm done arguing with you.
@dharmaseed So there's no distincion between marrying out of obligation and marrying for love? Sounds to me like YOU are the one who's making judgements here. And with that, have a nice life.
@dharmaseed THEY DID GO THEIR SEPARATE WAYS, YOU JACKASS. Then they got back together, and they were brought back together by some of the very same people that you said she tore apart. Paul and Ringo encouraged him to move back to NYC and Paul even went to Yoko and asked her what John had to do to get her back because John was so unhappy without her. Only goes to show how uninformed you are over the whole business. Have you ever even read a biography about John Lennon?
@NicNac13c Dislike her as a business woman and an avante garde artist all you want, but don't wish her dead. Now, I've said I'm done arguing with you twice and here I am still arguing. I don't know why I'm bothering talking to a troll like you. I'd like to show you how your mind is bent but you haven't got one. So sod off.
Check out John's waiter scene in MMT. You know, the one where he's shoveling spaghetti onto the fat woman's plate? It's Fawlty Towers' Manuel crossed with MP's The Meaning of Life restaurant scene, and he did it FIRST, years before either. It's a pity John didn't get to know the Pythons like George did. Imagine the possibilities of some joint (hehe) comedy project !!
This was recorded two days before this amazing person was shot killed. I remembered this clip the best from the entire interview. Recorded December 6th, 1980. BBC.
I read a Peter Cook biography a few years ago and apparently he and John were friends in the 60s and when Cook would have dinner parties they would have everyone in stitches because they made for such a brilliant comedy double act... Lennon was so sharp that he could give Cook a run for his money.
Its weird to hear him talk like this. Not in a bad way. He really was just a regular guy, or at least, he was at home. Everyone has this preconcieved notion that he must have been out of his brain on the train 24/7, but he was a regular guy. Would have loved to meet him
George Harrison said that the spirit of the Beatles entered Monty Python when the group broke up. Guess some of it stayed in Lennon (damn funny man - obvious from the records, but I am glad to hear this interview, too)!
They all have so much in common: They grew up in the 50s listening to the Goons and Peter Seller's comedy records which were coincidentally produced by George Martin...Dick Lester was a surrealist and I think that Help is very Pythonesque(this word is actually now an official adjective in the Oxford dictionary). I just finished reading the first part of Michael Palin's diaries and he said that he and Terry Jones would listen to Beatles records while they wrote comedy scripts.
No, this was recorded on December 6th, 1980. BBC radio only Two days before his assassination. There was also a recorded interview program on the day he shot at the Dakota on the 8th of December. You can find it all here on Youtube. A very easy find and a great hour of entertainment.
The day he was shot, I'm referring to, not the date of this recording. Somebody claimed he was shot in november. That is wrong. He was shot, like I said, on Dec. 8th, 1980. (Unfortunately). R.i.p., dear boy.
@snoogans999 Then you obviously have done so without having a clue or you're just trying to provoke. Check out any book or google it, he was shot on the 8th.

@sonobagon13 He already bordered on being a comedian sometimes. In the Beatles films, he's the best actor by far. Incidentally, George Harrison believed that when the Beatles broke up, their spirit passed onto Monty Python.
Yoko Ono funny? Think not.
