I think Lockett was there for one reason. And that is his trainer Joe Calzaghe's father was Lockett's trainer. Calzaghe's camp had the notion that Joe could beat Pavlic. Well Calzaghe beat Hopkins and Hopkins beat Pavlic. Calzaghe is done fighting and with a perfect record. I love Pavlic, he is very entertaining to watch. But as they say in England to Calzaghe "CHEERS MATE!!"

It's a special thing to hold 2 belts in any weight class. The only way is to keep the belts happy. You have to fight their #1. Kelly fought the WBO #1. Next fight he'll fight the WBC #1. Then he can go get another belt and he'll have to keep that belt happy so they don't strip it. It's hard work but a worthy price to pay in order to be the ABSOLUTE Champ of your weight class. He and Calzaghe are the only 2 boxers that can claim kingship of their divisions.

I have to agree... Pavlik is such a powerful puncher that it is borderline ridiculous. Like Chavez Sr... the power overwhelms opponents no matter how fast and technical they are. Eating power for 12 rounds against a granite chinned Pavlik is a gauranteed loss. Period.

I wish boxing was more like the MMA with matches....Pavlik is an awesome fighter, and in his prime so why isn't he fighting other top contenders. This is not a mark on Pavlik just in boxing. jjrhodes...as hard as this is to believe...Lockett was the WBO #1 contender and mandatory. Can't ask much more of Pavlik who faced Miranda and Taylor (twice in under a year). Unfortunately there aren't many formidable opponents left. Abraham will likely lose to Miranda (who Kelly already thrashed), Calzaghe is pussing out...guess that leaves Sturm...A fight few really care to see.
