Yes! At 1:09 that's exactly what I remember from back when I was a kid. I always remembered this one commercial that had Destro's silhouette standing in a doorway. I haven't seen this since it first aired back in the day. Thank you so much for posting this, you rule.
It says buy our comics... but what its really saying is BUY OUR TOYS!
I love advertising, so ingenious. They know exactly what kids want and how to sell it to them. People complain about it, but really if you have a product you need to sell and its for kids how else are you going to market it?
This is the only time Hawk was animated with blonde hair (he was essentially replaced with Duke on the first season of the cartoon, and had brown hair when he debuted in season 2)
god bless you I thought no one had this. The first comic book commercial was the reason I started buying the comic. I could never find the 2nd issue with the october guard ( russian g.i. joe)
These and Transformers are the only time I've ever seen comic books advertised on television. Do the events portrayed in these commercials really reflect the plots of the comics?
Yes, the animations loosely represent what was in the issue. The animations were all designed to introduce a specific figure and/or vehicle so all the Larry Hama had to do was introduce the same thing and WHAMO! Thanks for watching my compilation!
Believe it or not, I believe this was actually the same voice actor Chris Latta. He did other characters like Short Fuse who had the New York accent. Anyway, that was more like his normal voice and so I believe this CC voice is actually the same guy.
@BUDAONLINE1 In the first mini-series Chris Latta deepened his voice but as the cartoon series progressed he gave CC a much higher pitched voice. I believe this was done to make CC more buffoonish.
Furthermore, I have wrote Hasbro about putting the comic commercials on their website but they won't do it. So, I have tried to do the best with what is available.
With the advent of the new 25th anniversay GI Joe toyline, Hasbro would do well to use these animations because they are introducing the same characters that they first released 25 years ago. All they would have to do is dig out the old videotapes and post them or include them in any new DVD releases.
@BUDAONLINE1 They should release a videogame series based on the comic book. Batman Arkham Asylum did a fantastic job of keeping true to the Batman mythos, and best of all they didn't have to carbon copy the comicbook series from beginning to end. Imagine a game that could explore many of the classic turning points in the comic like the invasion of Springfield, the creation of Cobra Island, the Battle of Benzheen, ect..
@BUDAONLINE1 Hasbo/Activision is coming out with a Transformers game that is independent from the recent movies, and that is supposed to be utilizing the Unreal Engine and based on the Generation 1 concepts. They should try putting that use to the GIJoe series, using the Gears of War battle engine during action sequences, and combining them with the conversational sequences used in the Mass Effect series.
3:53 COBRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

The variation of the lyrics in these commercials is interesting. I wonder if there's some list of the different lyrics anywhere?

I have the first issue in a compilation book called "G.I. Joe: The Best of the Baroness". It's an awesome story.

the cobra troopers look more bad ass in these, and yet the commander and destro sound like they're on south park...

@necrokratia Lol. I couldn't agree more. This Destro especially sounds like Cartman doing a Destro impersonation.

Why these aren't included in any of the dvds to my knowledge is beyond me. Also, I liked Cobra Commander's uniform in the beginning here

I hope they get someone who will actually do the live action version some justice.

Did Toei also animate these commercials. They look an awful lot like the cartoon series (but with minor differences in character appearances).

Yeah, I agree, he should have kept this voice.

Oh well, he was a great voice talent. RIP.
