He never fails to play from his soul. Whether live or studio versions. Perfection everytime. I don't think we'll see another John Clayton Mayer for a long time to come after he is gone. Until then, play on John. Play on.
Its so weird listening to how this sounds in an actual recorded studio stereo image... when you're used to listening/watching every live version you can get your hands on. You can hear his layered vocals, and guitar parts. it's pretty beast. I also love how Steve compressed his snare an kick. Whatever plug-in he threw them through it sounds fantastically bombastic. (it adds to his slick bombastic approach to drums on this song.)
He has to bring out the studio version of this song on his next album. "Who did you think I was" is such a cool song. Probably it's one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Definately the same tracks but sounds like this was before they dubbed the gtr solo, probably an early rough mix.
What I wanted to say tho was that his recent records (Continuum and the upcoming) basically are Trio records, it's amazing. Pino plays all the bass and Steve Jordan plays drums and co-produces.
this is definitely a demo based on the sound quality and other notable differences from actual studio. such as added vocals, differently sung lyrics and a couple added/differences guitar parts. (just to name a few.)
i dont think the one in the video was the studio version. a lot of bands do a "live for video" as their music video for a song. if you watch the solos in the video that's live footage edited together.
There is even a real video of this song on Youtube search for JohnMayerSME!

solo inspired his crossroads solo? he seems to stop the notes short like in his crossroads solo. also seem like he's using a fuzz on this solo too.
