I myself do Wing chun and have been experimenting with locks and stuff, but struggle with them. Do you think you could apply these locks to a non participating opponent.
Yes I can apply the locks with the sticky hands and strikes to a non compliant attacker. I think Wing chun and Aikido go hand and hand. But that is just my view point. Thanks for your comment. Peace!
Hullo! I've just began to sniff about the topic of martial arts, and I'm trying to get a feel for how the types are different and such. Maybe one day I'll take a class. ^_^
My question is, your videos are all very focused on demonstration... Is there a lot of individual practice in aikido? How do you study it when your sensei is absent or busy?
Hi there, Yes there Is there a lot of individual practice in Aikido. Once you learn the basics you can train on your own with the Jo (Staff) & Bokken (Wooden Sword) as well as Aik-taiso and Ki breathing. If your Sensei is busy then the Sensei will put his top student to teach. You must give them the same respect. Aikido Is all about learning to blend with your attacker take his center and keep your center at the same time. This is not an easy thing to do. It takes years and it's worth it.
What's Aiki-taiso? And is Ki breathing like breathing in yoga, or is it different?
"Take his center, keep your center"... It sounds like that's all about awareness. Wonder how similar the feeling is to partner dancing - a whole sequence of causes and reactions, a sort of nonverbal dialogue between partners/opponents. Such an in-depth understanding of *anything* must take a long time to cultivate! (Here's where you burst my bubble and tell me that it's not like that at all. ^_^)
Hi Robert great video , love the push hands . tai chi .. we also do something called pok wok is like two roosters walking circles facing each other is fun practice . I see tai chi in all your moves ... the soft slow and hard fast go hand in hand . like the way you add the slow motion to your vids can view the aspects of all your moves nice indeed .
Another great video Robert 5 stars. I noticed a little bit of atemi waza and also the chi sau . I did not get into the higher dan ranks of Aikido. Does your style of Aikido incorporate atemi waza and a form of chi sau or is it something you just added to the Aikido curriculum? No matter what the video is excellent and I love watching them.
Thank you Rick, Yes my system of Aikido uses strikes and push hands. Four Winds Aikido is my Take on Aikido and my study of other arts. I tell my students if you don't know how to punch and kick and ground fight you will never know how to defend against a full on attack. Have a great week my friend! Peace, Robert
that looks like a bit Chi Sau you were doing?

was that bit towards the end pushing hands as is used in Tai chi or is it an aspect of Aikido I haven't been intraduced to yet?
Duhnata 2 years ago 6
Yes. Its a bit of push hands / Sticky hands. I use it to teach how to stick with the motions of your attacker and feel and control his center.
ironfisteagleclaw 2 years ago
I like the idea of incorporating it into aikido. It flows well with the techniques I have learned.
