  • Epic song in 1984, and it's still epic today, Xavion was grossly overlooked, it was criminal...

  • Its a damn shame these guys weren't huge, they are extremely talented

  • I liked this band, too bad they didn't make it, guess hair bands did not include Afros

  • For $50 bucks worth every penny

  • Just bought the lp on eBay. So so good!!!!!!

  • Mother's finest was 10 years before these guys. they came out of Atlanta in the early seventies. Mother's Finest sound was straight rock and funk without heavy electronics because it wasn't around then. Check out their first two lp's.

  • I've looked for Xavion before on the internet. I was pretty sure of the name but nothing came up. They can be created with crossing the "rock/r&b" hybrid line before Living Colour as well as "Mother's Finest." I just saw Dexter for the first time on X Factor the other night and I felt like.....I know this brother from somewhere? I've always liked the "edge" of that type of sound. Michael and Janet took it even further with "Black or White, Dirty Diana, Beat It, Black Cat." I love it!

  • @sglov25

Mother's Finest has been playing since 1970, they were the precursor to Xavion and acts like Betty Davis, Death, Living Hell,Funkadelic and Mandrill. Xavion is the second wave of Black Rock Bands

  • And that is derek...james brown type singer from X factor

  • @iscreenfilm His name is dexter haygood bro

  • ss

  • That was absolutely amazing! You didn't let them take your edge Dexter! You go boy!

  • THE 80s WERE AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • I remember them and wondered why they disappeared. They had a really good hard rock/funk sound and should have gone further.

  • dexter!

  • I bought this album way back in 1985!! I STILL have it!!!! Eat your heart out was a BANGIN track back then and STILL is to this day!!! You GO HEAD ON DEX!!

  • I not only hope that Dexter goes far on "The X Factor", I hope that his appearance on the show will renew interest in Xavion. Great song, by the way.

  • I have the ORIGINAL ALBUM and I hope the current LABEL reprint it for CD. God Bless you Dexter for Believing!

  • if race was a problem then they never would have gotten a break in the first place!the music is just bad and sounds like it should be in an 80's montage clip!but i do like dexter and wish him the best

  • @jeff10547

I get tired of answering white dudes like you commenting or denying racism exists. I would rather have you just listen to the song and keep your comments to yourself. Good grief you people get on my nerves next and what in the hell do you know about the music business ?

  • @TheNewsoul2 i never denied racism exist dude! you seem like an angry person and maybe a bit racist yourself !what makes you think i'm white?for the record i know plenty about the music industry i make my living that way and dont worry i will never comment on your stuff ever again!

  • @jeff10547

THANK YOU !!! That means I don't have to get into a flame war with someone like you and if you aren't white that makes you just as stupid as Herman Cain.

  • @TheNewsoul2 haha well I guess if you think we are all racist oh well...the reality is this shit sucks. Also to act as if This gou was the first black rock group is stupid.

  • @sammallory79 first black rock group to appear on mtv dipshit. no one claimed them to be the very first ever.

  • @sammallory79

ASSHOLE, what do you expect thinking you were going to get over me,NOW GO FUCK YOURSELF you racist prick

  • @TheNewsoul2 hahah your a tool you keep on saying racist yet I have not heard a racist word yet. Just because my opinion of this song is that it sucks you get all butt hurt and show your true colors. You are a walking cliche. Have fun in Tampa where I am pretty sure you can find plenty of statistics to back up any theories a racist person could come up with....I think you are just mad that your era is over. I mean what the glam rock funk era was like a decade hahahah. Jive turkey.

  • @sammallory79

Stop smoking weed cracker, it makes you look as stupid as you sound. Go listen to those stupid Insane Clown Posse.

  • @sammallory79

LOSE WEIGHT YOU WEED SMOKING WHITE TRASH FUCKUP

  • @jeff10547 you have no clue. We were force to listen to the music that was stolen from us. You all copy and took and when we do our thang y'all say we are copying you all. I'm like this don't care what kinda of music it is, if it moves me then it's good!!!!!!! Can you get to that?

  • i'm gonna play simon for a moment and say sounds like it should be in a 1980's movie montage clip, however i do like dexter and i hope he does well do i see him winning xfactor,no but i would like to see him get work out of it and hope for the best for him and cocaine is a hell of a drug!

  • Thumbs up if you came here to get a look at the younger Dextor Haygood!!

  • Too bad this band did not get the recognition it deserve. I wonder why? Its actually catchy. They should of been big back in the 80s.

  • @vg4life Your right this was a great cut, but even the best rock bands live a very short life. And in the mid 80's I think Rap was really taking off.

  • I was jammming to this in the 80's

  • EAT YOUR HEART OUT 2011 :)

  • I feel bad for Dexter.

This would be and still is a kick-ass song in the 80's, they just didn't get enough publicity because of racism.

  • I've been racking my brain wondering why I never heard of this group when music to me is what alcohol is to a alcoholic.I notice the year and remeber that I was starting boot camp

  • I've been racking my brain wondering why I never heard of this group when music to me is what alcohol is to a alcoholic.I notice the year and remeber that I was staring boot camp

  • Which character is Dexter in this video?

Dexter wow'd from the X Factor got a great voice but man he looked like a wasted washed up has-been. Glad he kept his composure with Judge Simon. It looked a burnout stare-down for awhile. Landing up on the X I hope he does well.

  • I still got this album It is daBOMB! I remember first time seeing them in person was at a Backyard Party that my BigBro took me too smh I was like WHAT?!? By the end of the night I had managed to hop on stage and become the band's dancer Man ... meMOrieS!

  • Got to keep coming back ,dam they look good

  • Give Dex 5 million for the Xavion reunion tour.

  • I'm loving this song more and more everyday,it seems to have a little Ready for The World flavor

  • Dexter Haygood!!!

  • wow.

  • wow why am I just hearing of this song and the individual who sings it,like the jam and instruments

  • I named my son Zaivion:-) we love u, Dexter!!!

  • DEXTER!!! Thanks to the XFactor. Drop the boots, but, we are loving you here and hope you do well.

  • I dig this dude. Sounds like Lenny Kravitz

  • LOL dude fell hard

  • When I saw this album cover tonight in Dexter's piece on X Factor it brought back a lot of memories. I was the DJ at Spats in Waikiki from 1980 to 1987 and we were the progressive dance club back at that time. All I played was the latest greatest music and it was the number 1 club in the state of Hawaii. I remember when I first heard "Eat Your Heart Out" and loved it. It was heavily played back than and always packed the dance floor. Good Luck Dexter!

  • LIKE THIS IF YOU CAME HERE BECAUSE OF X FACTOR!!!!!

  • @fijianflygirl I'm sorry as music I never heard of this group or this song ,maybe had I been stationed in Charleston a little longer.I was introduced to music that I wouldn't hear when I came home

  • When Dexter held up that album cover, I was like..... Hey I bought that cassett tape in the 80's! That song Eat your Heart Out was kick ass. BE YOURSELF DEXTER, you can do it!!!!! BELIEVE TOO!!!!!

  • I met this awesome band in Destin and then went and hung out with them in Memphis. Dexter Haygood is FANTASTIC!!!!! Xavion was an awesome band! I got to sing with them in Florida. :) I wish you the best Dexter..............you can win this!!!! Just go sing like you know how to do!!!! :) You rock Dexter!!!!

  • Dexter... I remember turning so many people toward "eat ur heart out" back in my DJing days!!! I use to loop the opening drum beat to the ending of Bowie's "Lets Dance", then cut into the guitar riff of ur song! Great to c u on X.F. Be urself n run with it. Sing "eat ur heart out" make sure u keep the heavy deiving beat if ur gonna re-do it for a performance! Looking forward to ur bag of tricks.

  • Dexter I saw you guys years ago in Atlanta and met you when you were with Xavion. Went back to your hotel when you were here etc. I always thought you rocked! Seems like you had some hard times since which sucks. Glad the judges gave you a second chance because they saw something in you!

Don't try to be like James Brown on there. Just be yourself you will be ok!

Sing "Babe Eat You Heart Out" it would blow them away! I think people would still love that song today!

  • Dexter- I love your enthusiasm, your heart and soul. Your audition on X Factor was great! You haven't lost your groove. Best of luck!

  • Dexter,..just saw you on x-factor,...I remember Xavion,in the '80's,..you guys rocked!,..my heart goes out to you,..best of luck on x-factor,and in life,..God bless you!

  • I seen this guy on America's Got Talent! !!

  • Dexter!!! You were awesome tonight on X Factor!! :)

  • His second part on.X factor......kicked ass!!!!!

  • if he woulda sung this on Xfactor he wouldn't have had to go through that drama because this shit is FIRE.

  • Well Dexter (The singer for Xavion) just made it past the first round on X-Factor

  • X-Factor!

  • this guy was on the X Factor tonight

  • How can I get this album on cd? When I first heard them I thought they were the Canadian 80's rock group "Platinum Blonde"

  • I saw these guys live back in '84 when they opened for Daryl Hall and John Oates on their Big Bam Boom tour. They were pretty good.

  • Racist attitudes for black musicians who didn't play the stylistic game? It's great music, but there are lots of bands that only had one good song released and promoted to popularity, and none of them had anything to do with race. There are lots of bands that only had one song worth promoting, and that's what record companies do. Just because in this case, the band was made up of black men doesn't make it racism. That word is tied to ignorance 99% of the time, and not to actual situations.

  • @secedefromussa

What do you know about the music buisness ASSHOLE

  • @TheNewsoul2 Actually, more than I care to know. Been there, done that. It's not easy for any band to make it. Xavion had some great stuff, but if a record company decides to really push one song and leave the rest alone, they aren't always the best judges of what people will listen to. What I'm saying is that it almost definetely not racism, and just typical bad decisions from the label. And if you still think I'm an asshole, so be it. But, I'm an informed asshole.

  • @secedefromussa Conversely, insensitivity towards white supremecy; is based upon ignorance as well. If someone hasn't personally been hurt by systematic oppression; they can't recognize it when it's happening to people in the oppressed group. Much love, Che. By the way, Xavion were wonderful and exciting! I hope they are all doing well!

  • BADDDDD-ASSSS!!! Great post!!
