  • anyone who says dylan was the best songwriter of any period of time has no sense of music at all

  • I prefer how Bob Dylan sounds like a duck singing out of his nose.

  • who is singing this?

  • Dylan was quoted in the 60s as having said The Turtles version was his least favorite cover of all his songs. I guess it's because they had a hit with it.

  • Yep they sing it better then anyone by far

  • I was in my childhood years when these dudes were rockin, 7, 8 years old. I thought they called themselves the turtles cuz they appeared to be fat, compared to other musicians like the The Beatles and the Stones back then.

  • Johnny Cash did the best cover of this great Dylan song

  • W.T.F. - IF IT AIN'T YOU BABE - THEN WHO THE HELL IS IT?

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES who knows, this is bob dylan poetry. The poetry of this great man will never be fully understood. So who then "who the hell it is."

  • Definitely the original is better. Few could cover Dylan properly and the list starts with Jimi Hendrix.

  • The difference is the Turtles are second to none to their harmonizing. Young Rascals, Lovin' Spoonful, Easybeats and on and on. Dylan was and is great. His style added to the 60's-70's, awesome sounds. We were drenched with their music. But, man, what a nice time it was! Unmatched.

  • I love this electric version, always have. But I also like Dylans raw emotion. It's the same song with 2 different interpretations, I like em both.

  • Dylan's version had raw anguish- this is just so flaccid by comparison!

  • @coralarch It's a much more lively version and it's sung by Flo and Eddie, who are the funniest guys in the music business.

  • Great group. They gave us lots of great songs for a few years. Though Bob Dylan wrote "It Ain't Me, Babe," this version is way better than the original. It put the song on the map.

Amazing sound out guitars that weren't plugged into amps.

  • I know all their names but what the name of the guy at- :50 ??

  • The Turtles and Byrds are just the New Found Glory of the 60s all they do is covers of other dudes songs!

  • Who is the sexy guitar player with the kissable mouth who attracts all the screaming?

  • Fantastico ricordo d'infanzia

  • another example:

11 seconds in (:11) should be "I'm not the one.." but instead he turns it into "Leave at your own chosen speed. H'ime not the one.."

    Hime? .. sigh.

Anyone know what this is called? It drives me crazy. It makes me want to make a video just to stress the sound to give a better example.

  • @LanIost I think he is trying to sound sexy?

  • I never really had anything against the Turtles.. Maybe I just don't know enough of their songs but I love 'oldies'.

The vocals in this at least remind me of everything I hated about bands from the early to mid 2000s. Maybe they are still like this. The Jonas Brothers come to me... doing this weird whiny (?) thing to vocals.

Perfect example, at 28 seconds (:28) he does it very obviously.. "to protect you H'and defend you.."

..hiccupy whiny emotional almost on the verge of fake tears.

  • why did this drummer get fired ?

  • I like TUHTULS!!!!

  • Bob Dylan is a great song writer but as a solo singer he lacked the harmonies and up beat that so many bands used to make his songs so much better. For example All Around the Watchtower by Jimmi Hendrix, Mr. Tambourine Man by the Byrds and Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann. Who am I leaving out?

  • Flo & Eddie kick ass!

  • This song is so sweet.

  • YES!

  • Turtles may have sounded prettier, but they missed the point of the song, a spoiled girl that wants her perfect knight in shining armor. Like most dylan song covers, they took the sarcastic edge off the lyrics and emphasized the repetitive chorus.

  • @MerkinMuffly I always thought that this was an anti love song too but I heard that It Ain't Me Babe was actually about some guy singing to LBJ and his draft board which wanted to draft him, send him to fight.

  • @MerkinMuffly I don't get why you think they missed the point. Flo & Eddie appear to be smirking their way through this song, snidely enjoying the fact that its meaning is lost on their teenybopper fans. They, of course, later went on to join Zappa's MOTHERS wherein they famously took aim at clueless teenaged fans, while also poking great fun at their biggest hit, HAPPY TOGETHER.

  • love this song to bad they didnt sing the long version of it

  • #1 Turtles

    #2 Johnny Cash

    #3 Bob Dylan

  • Turtles did this best.

  • great song.

  • It ain t me babe ='(

  • han ligner også en skildpadde ham forsangeren det er et cool cover nummer

  • I like when the drummer is smiling at 0:53 and then he gets all serious

  • @UltimateSkaFan Well, that drummer got fired in 1966 shortly after this concert . The 2 lead singers were either jealous that he got the bigger screams from the girls or as reported " that he acted like it was his band like when he was in high school"

  • @baseballeddie1177 Weird....I think the guitar player's better looking.

  • he looks like doug heffernan (Kevin James) from king of queens :D

  • This is a classic cover of Bob Dylan's tune. I like Dylan's versions of his lyrics and songs also. Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Mass.

  • The vocalist looks like Jason Segel

  • I'd say more like post -NFL Bernie Kosar

  • putang ina mo :)

  • lol

    you're right.

    he does..

  • Good call nunogrilo!! I would give 3 thumbs up on that comment, but I only have 2 hands. The Turtles version of this tune seems to be the most enjoyable.

    Long live You Tube!!

  • Not only is Dylan the man who wrote it; in 1965, while in his snarky/sunglasses-wearing/insult-the-whole-world mode, Dylan visited the W. Coast and heard the Turtles perform this in an LA night club. He then sneeringly said, "Nice song somebody else wrote for you"...

  • I am aware that Bob Dylan is a great musician, but many covered his songs, and sorry Dylan, but I have heard his version of his song, and I prefer the Turtles' version. I do not know, as I said, Bob Dylan is a superb musician, but I am not just a big fan of him, I do like "like a rolling stone" though.

  • horrorshow2000: I agree with you. That was my point. I do believe Dylan was the greatest American songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century, but (especially during the time he was making what many feel were his most magical albums, 1965-66) he could be a first-class, insolent, nasty jerk. I love the Turtles' version of this song (I reserve judgment on whether I like their or Dylan's version best; it depends on my mood) and I love the Turtles in general.

  • @mackb909 lightfoot was the greatest songwriter

  • @mackb909 i'm pretty sure that Dylan (or Nick Drake) were the best americas (or even the worlds) best singer/songwriters of the 20th century

  • @horrorshow20000

"Bob Dylan is a superb lyricist/story teller/failed poet"

    FTFY

  • @horrorshow20000 Well said, Dylan is a great musician, and even better (possibly genious) songwriter. To be honest though, at least 50% of his hits I feel are better sang by others (in my opinion of course). I actually prefer both the Turtles and Johnny Cash's versions of these songs over dylans. Same with All Along the Watchtower, Mr. Tambourine Man, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, etc... Definitely not saying he doesn't have his own that no one else can sing like him, but I feel most are...

  • @horrorshow20000 you can't really beat the original

  • @horrorshow20000 The dregs of Dylan mauls the best material The Turtles would ever ever write, anyone that can't see that is blind or deaf.

  • @bobbydylanio I am not trying to say Bob Dylan is not a talented singer or musician. I am aware of this, and I am not even a big Bob Dylan fan. All I am trying to say is that I prefer their version to his. His was too slow for me, not enough passion for the song, but I can acknowledge he originally did it. Unfortunately, sometimes covers are better than the originals. I hate to say that, but it is true.

  • Your a sad person , or a kid that really suffers from lack of attention from your parents.Grow up and learn to be polite

  • super klasse mooie uplo

    bedankt 5 *****

  • I love this song, but this version just isn't doing it for me.

  • Johnny Cash released it October 31,1964 and got to #58 on the pop charts. The Turtles released it August 7,1965 and got to #8 with it.Undoubtedly went alot higher for Cash on the country charts than the pop charts.BOTH are GREAT songs

  • Long live Flo and Eddie!

  • this clip is from the Shindig show

  • i think this is a good cover of a dylan classic, although my favorite is The cover in Walk The Line

  • sorry sepplainer, bob dylan's is the original

  • This was the original though...

  • nicee
