  • yeah man, I'm digging this...

  • The electronic piano is very nice . . . and I would like to know, if possible, what kind it is and where one can buy it.

  • improv is the best--a moment in time----thank you sir doug for capturing and sharing. fabulous. makes me want to have dinner--even though it is 1215pm. why does my cvp305 not sound like this? i wonder if it uses the same sampling as yours.

  • all i can say is you are great.. :)

how long did you need to get this good?

  • i love this :)

  • Eccellente esecuzione...

    Grazie

  • Fantastic!!! I love Your version :)

  • That cord progression that he start @ like 3:52 is sick

  • Wonderful how the prerecorded and pre-programmed bass works together with the interpretations - it is the work of a consumate master at his best

  • really nice!

  • 1st class.....enjoyed it

  • great job!! thanks alot!!

  • Incredible mood here. You make it look so easy, and as we know, it's not.......J

  • tasty man! extremely tasty!! & I don't throw out compliments...

  • fantastic job!!! Bill Evans is proud of you, as am I.

  • whos signatures?

  • cool, i love it. i love jazz!!!

  • Everybody does... ;-)

  • Classy! I love it!

  • Nice work.

  • CHILLS DOWN MY SPINE!

    (As in VERY GOOD!)

  • Nice!

  • Simply Superb!....

  • Awesome :) It's very advanced for me ..

    but with patience..

  • raymond domenech is it you ?!

  • awesome!

  • love it

  • that's jazz

  • thanks for the comments of music theory - it helps me a lot! =)

  • It is amazing how rich a piece can sound, just with a few notes and dissonent chords in the hands of a very talented and superb jazz pianist. Thank you very much for the commentary also.

  • BRAVO!

  • VERY melodic, nicely done! =]

  • AWESOME!

  • excellent.

  • You play so beautifully, and I love that jazz! Will you please tell me...what is the best way to go about learning to play like you do?

Also, what kind of piano are you playing?

    Thank you!

  • helpful, it would be nice if you left the comments longer though (no reason to hide it again)

  • That's my overall favorite non-acoustic piano!

  • Great Song! Great talent! Check out my videos on the guitar.

  • beautiful

  • i love jazz. i also ove jazzy hip hop. this is a masterpiece. did you do this while sight reading?

  • stunning

  • I wish I knew more theory to help make understanding how to play jazz a little easier. I love it so much but its so hard not knowing where to go next after a chord. :(

  • oh i love soft jazz like this. Great over cup of coffee ! simply <3333

  • @joyjoyooO Oh, you should listen to the cover of Alice in Wonderland By Ellis & Branford Marsalis in the album Loved Ones. It's wonderfull.

  • Nice playing mate, very tasteful.

  • i like how you explain what you're doing. many musicians don't bother doing that and let people just criticize their work without really understanding it.

  • i like how in jazz improv versions of this song, the 'somewhere' part is played over the relative minor instead of the tonic. that use of the deceptive cadence keeps this piece going.

  • The best thing about this wonderful jazz posting is, I use the same chords and voicings. Can't wait to play this. Bravo!

  • NIcE!!looks fun=]

  • Great work! Nicely done!!

Can please send me the sheet music thanks!

  • beautifully done

  • Can anyone explain "half/whole diminished scale on C7/(b9)"?

  • It is a useful 8 note scale that begins (ascending) on a half step (C#) continues with a whole step (D#) and repeats semitone, tone, semitone, tone etc (C,C#,D#,E,F#,G,A,A#,C). It contains all the main tones of a C7b9 chord(C,Db,E,G,Bb). Same scale can be used for C7,Eb7,Gb7 and A7

  • finally real jazz AND good jazz :)

    thx

  • nice chords and voicings.. you are really good. Where can I get info on the left-hand chord voicing?

    thanks for posting... great stuff.

  • Bud Powell's version of this song is amazing

  • You know I've been to New York. but seriously this song does have that impact or impression of a New York cafe. Good work mate keep it up

  • this music reminds me a winter night in new york city at a cafe...very soothing. love it!

  • great thank you very much!

  • wena compadre !!!

  • Good work, thanks! 'Over the Rainbow' (in Eb, of course) can separate the men from the boys.

  • very nice job.

you don't have to understand to like it.

    just listen and love.

  • sweeEEeeT!!! smooth sound really nice thx!!

  • Great improvisation, but the best part is the comments you've added - it is hard to put this stuff into words sometimes, and you've done a great job.

  • Niccceee!!

  • I certainly agree with the last 9 comments. As one said "Doug Who", yes many of us wonder just who is this brilliant piano player.

I am sure I once heard him play here on the Gold Coast.

Do hope to meet up in October.

  • I certainly agree with the last 9 comments. Singalotme2 says "Doug Who", yes many of us wonder just who is this brilliant keyboard player. I live on the Gold Coast and am sure I once heard him play here.

Do hope to meet up in October.

  • wonderful song, great arrangement...very good

  • this is so chill ! great man ! :D

  • I also liked how you came in right on the tonic and saved the A half-diminishd progression for the 2nd chorus. Well done.

  • For us pianists -- this is a treat. I like seeing the text as to what you're doing while it's happening. It helps me get some ideas for my own jazz students too. Great stuff, keep posting. Thanks! Jay from billevanswebpages

  • I love it...amazing..

  • Wonderful thanks for sharing :):)

  • nice relaxing bit of jazz play. learning comes slow with me, just cant read music. also like sound of this piano, what is the model ?

  • amazing!

  • Please Doug Who.Trying to find his name and other video's of this gent.

    Thanks Poppa Gus

  • Hi Poppa Gus

For a lot of stuff I have done, go to the website shown in the description above

    Doug

  • nice, but play a little more legato and u are perfect.

  • all this... and... short fingers

    thanx

  • Great arrangement, good context, and useful tips. Thanks so very much for posting this. Who taught you?

  • Perhap's you youngsters don't realize that Doug is playing all three chairs, and quite well I might add. His piano solo needs to be as sensitive as the bass and drum tracks he has laid down. His is PERFECTION in the trio approach. The trio is the purest communication between musicians.

  • You really know how to lead the ship!!! Keep on! Congratulations!

  • Dear Sir,

You have demystified alot of what we hear in jazz solos. You are like the magician who divulges how every trick in the book is done.

    Thank you

  • Hi, where can i get the piano score, can anybody live me link? it's awsome!!!

  • super i noticed you got a bit busy now and then ,but i was blowing my sax with you ,ben webster style bravo

  • Dear Sir. Do you think it possibly true that you try too hard to sound relaxed? What I mean is the inflections sound very nice but quite contrived, not natural or heart felt.

  • jazz is so soothing it puts me 2 sleep(in a gud way tho) lol

  • Wow that was trulely amazing and so soothing i could lesson for hours, if only i was as talented :D....wicked lesson!!!

  • Bravo!

  • relaxing zzzzzzz...

  • WOW!!

  • i like this.. cool

what keyboard u r using!! can i know!!

  • Hi:

     I really enjoy your music!

    Thanks,

    Walt

  • you should mention the pedal before you go to the one. i do that allot, either by staying on the 5 in my left hand and alternating in the right hand between the 2 and the 5 in my right, or by pedaling on the 1 and doing some chromatic shtuff :-D

  • Beautiful. This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to switch from guitar to piano. Your on-screen explanations are also a great addition.

  • Cool!! I tried to improvised on this song before.. but not as beautifully thou~ :P

  • Really very interesting!

  • Finding your music on this site has proven to be a treasure, not only do I enjoy it but my 18 year old twin sons listen as well

  • Excellent. A great lesson as well.

  • Can you please tell me how to make the drum and bass comping effect? Is it a computer program? Thank you so much!

  • very lovely...i really have to get into that jazz theory book soon! Thanks for the inspiration... Hit some Gene harris blues scale rolls though! i love em.

  • ahhhhhhhh t h i s is nice

  • If you ever want to quit piano, you have a career as a bass player ahead of you. (I'm trying to figure out whether you did the bass before or after. It's seamless with the piano.) It's got to be difficult to describe "feel" in words, but this video is a wonderful example of seeing, hearing, and "reading" about feel. Thank you so much, and please do more. I especially love just solo piano, but it's fun to see how you work out a trio accompaniment.

  • Cool. I learned quite a bit from this. Thanks.
