  • the Mom & Dad scenario was a dry joke (sarcasm) apple removing ports or functionality and re introducing em! the logic board and super drives replacements on my unit is no joke i have 3 receipts here for 2 logic boards and 3 superdrive replacements!

and the price it costs apple!! i now have bought a unibody mac and it still kicks CD's out and i have over 2'500 CD's!!! ORIGINALS!!!

the drive after 4 month does not burn DVDS! the only type it could play was original DVD'S now they no longer play!

  • same thing is happening to mine.. it just started today. it flashes randomly

  • I've found a partil FIX. Install gfxCardStatus and have your card switch modes while in use. The issue will go down to manageable levels.

  • Mom And Dad Macbook Pro Have 2 Little Macbook/Air Children Both Rejects One Cries Why Am I No Use Well You Never Inherited The Firewire Port From Your Father' But Why? Well She Replied It Often Skips A Generation.......Your Brother Well... He's Inherited Faulty Genes Too A Poor Logicboard And A Faulty Screen He's Also Very Thin And Weak Both Hinges Snapped......He Also Has No Superdrive Like You... As They Don't Work Anyway' You Had An Injection/Update From Apple At Birth And It Killed Yours....

  • APPLES NEW COMMERCIAL....Tag Line.. "New Macbook Family Now No Inbreeds"

buy a new macbook pro and get 1% of a new one when this one fucks up in 3 to 6 month.....the new macbook family can now WORK yes it just "WORKS" scratched screen from new? faulty logic boards? fear not fan boys.....did the dust annoy you behind the display? flickering display? new manufacturing that resolves this YES NEW TECHNOLOGY!! we can update your previous rev to fix screens and boards but were not buy a new one!!! ;-)

  • one time we were "just unlucky" getting a one off bad machine now we are "lucky" to get a good one times i have took machines/products back because of issues just to get another as bad or worse than the first' i except technology moves at a rapid pace but apple are no different to microsoft so called "improvements" faster CPU'S etc are different than selling machines/products faulty logic boards bad screens cracking cases (iphone, macbooks) just so they can sell an "improved" model...quality NOT

  • have you noticed that with every new product update that being ipod iphone macbook or pro they make out the gen we bought originaly only 3 - 6 month ago were crap and full of problems leaving us feeling we paid top wack for a machine/product thats now obsolete... and they are always faster better oh and have no issues like the first rev ha ha thanks for taking our money for test machines they want to release firmware fixes updates instead of increment stupid software and app store rubbish....

  • yeh guys it does exist my rev a unibody does it on when 9400m selected

so so true apple are only interested in there up rising profits!!....well i mean the money they scam off people by releasing yet another machine with an extra button or better still removing a function then introducing it on rev b and blowing it all up in advertising "back by public demand" or convince you too slog out another load of dosh......"BUY A NEW MAC BOOK PRO NOW WITH NO FLICKERING DISPLAY"

    lol lol............

  • My late 2008 mbp's logic board was replaced 3-4 months ago and showed up shortly after being replaced. I had it repaired to fix another flickering problem and the problem above. The other problem was fixed, but not this.

    I think it's a generation problem.

  • Just adding my voice as another person whose Late 2008 MBP is affected by this issue (you know, the problem Apple claims doesn't exist)

  • everything here is all true!!! i was at my end with the hassle i have to mention when i received the 2nd macbook back from repair half the screws were missing from the bottom they never put back!!!!! after a call to apples head office the said they would send me a pack free to replace my self (this was good) but i sent it in only to return 3 days later with the screws replaced........but not the original ones (they had lost)

they put some cheap replacements in that looked like wood screws!!!!!

  • the final scenario and a 2 hour phone call (the guy was not from the UK and didn't speak great english.....) this was difficult enough i demanded (politely) a replacement unit only to be told by NO!! it would have been cheaper than replacing 3 logicboards) so my £1600 6 month old unit went in MINT condition finally returned to me scratched on the bottom 2 dints in the side bodged up screws loose side panel!! that still kicked out discs!!!!! so i got rid and bought the flickering unibody! great

  • @adharlee Can hardly understand what you wrote??

  • Comment removed

  • the issues were never solved genius my a??s they couldn't even solve!!

probably the OS all along.....on my 3rd flickery screen macbook pro unibody that still kicks out cds from the first day!!!! blank dvds + and - all brands after 5 months wont burn! and will only play purchased dvd films

so after just under £5000 in total of 3 lap tops (and apples own cost on 4 superdrives and 3 logicboards) i have to resort to an old windows machine that costs just over £200!! and works!!!

    never again apple!!

  • same premium price for trash products like the 8600 GT nvidia promised 9400 wouldn't conk out lol mine flickers at low brightens using 9400 and has the flicker refresh! the first old one screen died due to the crap 8600 chip then buying my 2nd macbook pro only to have the logic board replaced 3 times after 6 months and the super drive replaced 4 times because it wouldn't play cds and scratching media AND STILL WOULDN'T PLAY after 3 repairs!!! unibody my 3rd unit still refuses to play audio cds.

  • It can't be a hardware problem, as it NEVER occured in leopard for me. But suddenly started after I upgraded to snow leopard. It only occurs on 9400m chip and only in osx, not in win 7 or win xp.

  • @frijec Your wrong, I am sure of that...

  • how do ya solve it?

  • Why Apple doesn't recognize it like a factory issue???

  • I am on my 3rd logic board and screen. I still have it!

  • Had my mabook serviced for a completely different issue, Apple decided they wanted to replace the mobo for no apparent reason claiming it had absolutely no video... Guess what? now it flickers exactly like this randomly and I am out of warranty... Oh and did I mention they decided to replace my upgraded 500GB hard drive with the 320 it came with claiming thats how they want the machine to be. (they would not return my 500GB either. spent a week trying, even called corporate)

  • Have same problem with my black MacBook

  • Mine flickers a LOT i just call it awesome, my right speaker is blown too, well one of them in there..

My Superdrive is Dead, Battery only lasts 2 hours, it used to last 6 Hours. Average Temperature is 140F, V key fell off. JUST FLICKERD :-D

Its funny, i got my Uni-Body from apple 2 days before they were Released to the Public, because my Old Macbook Pro (Early 2008) Broke too many Times. And now this one Has started to become a clunker.

    -Squirrel

  • ok nevermind, I gave it 5 days.... i just saw the first flicker.

  • Its a motherboard issue.

  • @donnyb got the logicboard replaced, still appears but less frequently.

  • Took mine to the Apple Store and they replaced my entire display screen, internal and external. So far (knock on wood) no flickering has occurred. I'll give it 5 weeks.

  • Happens on my MacBook Pro unibody 15". This is a factory defect that should be recalled. Mine is unfortunately out of warranty. Aggravating. Apple products seem to be less and less reliable as time goes on. When you *must* by the extended warranty, it tells you there product quality is going down hill.

  • The problem is with the 9400 chip, solution - new logic board! Just had mine replaced, praying the flicker doesnt come back. Repair cost about £850!! but it was free under warranty. Get your machines repaired before your warranty runs out.

  • This happened on my MacBook 15" Unibody, but the entire screen flickered Black. I reset the PRAM and since I did that, I have run on both the 9400 and the 9600 and haven't seen any more flashes. Not sure if this is a fix, or if it just hides the problem.

  • How do you go about resetting the PRAM?

  • i have this too. do you people also have horizontal white lines across the screen appearing at random? lines appear for like half a second at a time.

  • Yes, they appear a split of a second and are about 2cm long

    only on 9400m

  • Yes, little mostly white lines that appears randomly on the screen. If the 9600m GT is activated, all problems gone....

  • Yes, my MBP late 08 has the same flickering problem. If the 9400 is activated and i move the mouse, horizontal lines appearing randomly over the screen, best seen on a plain wallpaper. On the 9600gt anything is fine.

Hope, that 10.6.2 will fix this because my 1-year warranty expired in a few days.....

  • Flicker problem just started with me too. Varies in severity, but never really goes away. I have an apple 30" attached to the laptop and that is still perfect

  • crap, mine is doing the same thing, and has gotten worse just today :(

  • Logic board replacement resolved this issue for me.

  • Ugh! I switched to the 9400m and noticed that mine does this. The bitch of this is... I already got the logic board replaced because the 9600m was causing my entire system to freeze up! WTF APPLE!!!!

  • Same problem here, sometimes the flicker appears every 5 Minutes, it's nerving :(((

Hope, it's "only" a graphicsdriver problem....

The update on 10.5.7 don't solve the problem....

    Please fix it, Apple!

  • i find it rediculous that so many people have this problem and NOBODY from Apple responds with any acknowledgement of the problem.

  • I've been on the phone with Apple Care for the past few days and just got the official call today: Apple Engineers don't have any idea what it is, and you should get the Logic Board replaced.

they re too busy talking about their rising revenues,

  • @bryanwalsh1868 its all cheaply produced in China, My first two macs also had big problems, (the white ones)

they re too busy talking about their rising revenues, For those highly priced machines you could expect perfection,

  • i have the same problem on win 2000

  • Same problem on my 17". I've been logging temps and conditions when seeing the glitch, but haven't come to any conclusions, yet. I"m still hopeful it's a driver issue. (the machine's perfect in every other way, so I'd hate risking a truly bad display (bad pixels, for one thing).

  • I have the same problem. I got my Macbook Pro 15" last thuesday and noticed the flicker on thursday. :(

  • Same problem

  • This is the post I did in apples support forum. "I got my MBP 2.8Ghz back today. Fast service! The Main Logic Board was replace. I'll post an update if the problem returns. If you don't hear from me then the problem is gone. " I posted this on 2-12-09 and have yet seen the problem return.

  • I have the same problem. Any solutions?
