@donimate it's (loosely) based on a true story. Laika was a stray Husky/Terrier mix from the Soviet Union and became the first animal ever to orbit the Earth. The researchers never planned on retrieving Laika from space so instead they sent up seven days worth of food and water, where upon the seventh day she would be euthanized. Unfortunately, the craft's thermal control center was damaged and Laika died within a few hours of overheating.

Laika was described as a very friendly and sweet dog.

@roxyloveriley I get that.....As with any electronic song though, they can have so many meanings and evoke different emotions. Ironically this is even more true the less lyrics a song has. But sometimes when a song is given a video and a very specific meaning it takes away from the experience IMO, as was the case with this song for me.

Also... I think the artists approach at the video was bad and as I said before was "cheesy" I mean did the dog really have to be mouthing the words..lol.

I looked it up and there seems to be a lot of controversy about how long Laika actually lived in space and how it died.

This site show it best history1900s.about.com/od/1950­s/p/laikathedog.htm. This is strange because there is no controversy. In 2002 the Institute for Biomedical Problems in Moscow (which was founded in 1963 to aid cosmonaut missions) said exactly what you mention: It died within hours due to overheating.

Laika, a stray dog, originally named Kudryavka (Russian: Кудрявка Little Curly), underwent training with two other dogs, and was eventually chosen as the occupant of the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik 2 that was launched into outer space on November 3, 1957.

Laika likely died within hours after launch from overheating. The true cause and time of her death was not made public until 2002.
