Pretty flawless album and by far my favorite of the Talking Heads. It's really hard to pinpoint when these tracks were recorded by just listening and it feels relevant even in the 2000's kind of.
Great info man. I just wish you would have said "Remain In Light" instead of "Remain in the light" You said it twice in the video as you hold up the sleeve, and then you have it written in your description... REMAIN IN LIGHT!!
I appreciate that this isn't a 2-minute review because it is a CLASSIC album.
Just for the record, though, I don't think I heard mention of Adrian Belew or Bernie Worrell, legendary musicians who contributed here. Belew's guitar work in particular is an indispensable and well-known contribution to the album.
Hello again YWIR. Ran out of space there ! The band always had a great, innovative sound, but they also incorporated Brazilian rhythms into their music, of which David is patron of a solely latin-based label. I have to differ when you mention David having mental block ! This guy is a genius... of Celtic origin, music, art & poetry are in our blood ! Thanks for posting .
Hello YWIR. In defence of Byrne..When you mention Tina & chris ' band Tom Tom Club..Jerry Harrison also done some of his own stuff. Back to Byrne..He was involved in a lot of projects at this time, probably his most productive period ever. They made "Remain in Light " " Fear of Music " & the 1st live album " The name of this band is Talking Heads "Byrne was also involved with Eno "My life in the bush of ghosts" "Catherine Wheel" "Knee Plays" , so I guess it was a hectic time for all. Miss them .
I look at wiki, metacritic, amazon and a bunch of other places. I also try to look up old bio's and interviews. Last Fm, Discog are also pretty informative.
Cool review. This was my first Talking Heads album, I instantly fell in love with it seconds after putting it in, it just fit right into my little zone. Never knew the back story. After buying this, I got really into Talking Heads (and I was already a big Brian Eno fan). You are right to say this is a great introductory album even though none of their other albums sound quite like this, musically or lyrically.
I purchased this 8-track ("OMG ...did he say 8-track?") specifically for the song, "Once in a Lifetime" ...mainly inspired by the video on the MTV of another era.
And slowly, the rest of the music grew on me to a point where...never mind...that's deep.
But I believe that the approach to Remain in Light, shattered every left-brained attempt by pop musicians to raise an overnight buck, that we had to endure. This is definitely one of my all time favorite compilations. Thanks for the 'ups'!
8 tracks are tight. My family owns a huge, coffee table sized one in the basement, that I hope to inherit one day. That thing is a BEAST and probably weighs more than car.
the first song playing in this video is one of my favorite songs of all time. i used to put it on like every mix i made for people. my favorite talking heads is stop making sense even though i normally hate live albums. all the songs sound better live on that one. i saw tom tom club live in detroit and it was awesome to see tina weymouth prance around barefoot. very interesting story! never heard it before. great review as always.
Remain In Light is a fantastic Talking Heads album. Born Under Punches, Once In A Lifetime, Seen and not Seen, and Crosseyed & Painless are my favorite tracks off that album.

Is that an album review or a biography? Thankfully tubs is obscuring his face with the cover art the majority of the time.
