@beagle4864 Yeah, thats pretty much what I was saying. I just hate when people think that a Horn player is terrible when theyve never tried it. A high school student would have a hard time being perfectly accurate. What i was saying is that you have to work harder to be accurate on Horn than most other instruments.
@Dovakiin14 No, horns do have terrible accuracy. These guys are pros, of course, so they dont really emphasize how hard it is to switch between notes without screwing up. It requires loads more practice to be accurate on Horn then on, say, trumpet.
@AsianSnowybrick Yes, it is hard to be accurate on a horn, but I think the point is that horn players can be accurate too. I know some fantastic horn players, I love to play with them, not everyone is brilliant at horn, but again, not everyone is brilliant at their instrument
@Diatonic7th I've been playing horn for almost 5 years. I played Bassoon as a second instrument for a little over a year and absolutely loved it. But it was easy to pick up. I'm gonna have to agree with AsianSnowybrick The fact that you can play any note on at least 3 fingerings makes precision extremely difficult if you're not very accustomed to it. For example, I can play a G on 6 different fingerings. 2 of those are the same fingerings as the most common fingering for the F and A around it.
@carfreakify Yes, your right. There is no such thing as an easy instrument (except maybe Saxophone, only took me a half hour to play advanced etudes.) However, there are instruments that are harder than others, abd i belive Horn takes 1st as the hardest instrument to play. Double reeds are truly quite a challenge, i just think that Horn is more so.
@Diatonic7th Oh believe me, i woulnt make such a statement if i hadnt tried one. Ive pkayed all the band instruments, and brass players require a much stronger and more flexible embouchure than a woodwinds, even more so than a double reed which are argueable the hardest woodwinds to play. Of course, a million times was exaggerating, but from my experience brass instruments are harder than woodwinds.
@AsianSnowybrick I play trumpet and french horn, and I have fooled around with a few types of woodwinds. All of the instruments I have tried - even piano - are difficult in their own respects. You're right to say that Horn requires more skill and practice than most other instruments. However, double reeds are undoubtedly as difficult to play, if not more so. That's my experience at least!
@Querpfeiffe Hello fellow Flute player~! You can choose to reply because it seems that all people that play Saxophone hate me, soo...lol yes, I know this is true because I have had very interesting experiences in band this year XD I want to play French Horn very badly, but I got switched to Flute, and just to anyone who plays Violin, VIOLAS WIN BY A LONGSHOT~!
i've been playing the horn for 10 years and i still make mistakes every now and then. even when you have incredible focus, mistakes just happen on the horn. that's something every horn player needs to accept if they want to become better musicians. otherwise, you'll always play tentatively, and playing scared leads to more mistakes.
@Orangenscheise These horns are either more mellow or more trumpety (I don't know) and these horns are only in single horn, these don't come in double horn at all.
@taylorstalkerXD Everyone can tell you're bursting with pride about getting into your HS' orchestra....you won't make friends if you're constantly throwing your accomplishments in their faces.

woooooooooooooooooooooo best horn section ever! I think this is the perfect example of awesomeness anyone agree? clarity great range amazing all around the best. I would pay any amount of money to hear these guys
Those horns are so pretty! My highschool is playing jurassic park for the full symphony and I was asked to play with them! (I'm a freshman so its a big deal for me haha) However I'm really scared because I would be the only freshman horn player, my friend matt who also plays horn and is a freshman is in the full symphony as well but as the piano player. Any advice for a scared to death freshman horn player?
I've been playing brass instruments for 6 years now. The first time I watched this video was this summer, and it still has the most beautiful chord at the end that I have still yet to hear anything that comes close to comparison.
Such perfect 1st horn parts. The arrangements really pulls out the thick thick texture. The movement of sound seems as if it is physically tangible with how thick it is. Those low parts are sublime also.
@3sweetthings Lol, no you don't. The vienna horn players are this good in spite of those horns, not because of them. Vienna horns are keyed in F, and about 10x harder to play than regular doubles. Basically, try pegging a high Bb on the F side of your horn. Pretty hard, right? They do it over and over in this video. Gods.
I'm a trumpet play and i just switched to horn this year and i love horn(: and i don't thinkanyone should dislike this no matter the instrumentation its a beautiful piece
@filledwithhate23 What the hell dude. I play both trumpet and french horn, and find that comment very ignorant. I'd say trumpet and french horn are about even, maybe even trumpet being a bit better, because of its enormous versitality. French horn is great as well, great tone, but very limited. I hate how trumpet players and trumpets themselves are always stereotyped as being inferior to other brass, its pretty underrated.
@kylestyyle987 Horn is limited? The trumpet can't go below an fsharp below the staff without playing pedal tones which I are very out of tune on trumpet I might add. The french horn has an enormous range. I'd like to see a trumpet group cover that many parts in that many octaves.
@rtmcgaha I don't mean limited as in range and octaves, but yes, it has an astounding range. I mean that trumpet can play many different types of music, and can adapt to many, many different styles, jazz, latin, concert, baroque, mariachi ect. Because many trumpet players play with incorrect form and don't practice, they can sound terrible especially in school bands, I know that. I just think personally that you can do more with the trumpet.
@rtmcgaha Don't get me wrong, I think that he french horn is fanastic as well, an it's powerful sound is necessary for concert and ochestral music. I just think too mant people underestimate what a trumpet can do.
@kylestyyle987 No, I think people underestimate Horns more because of their terrible accuracy. People remember great trumpeters like Dizzy and Louis Armstrong, but how many famous Horn players have you ever heard of? I think that Horns are underestimated, if anything.
@AsianSnowybrick That's the one thing I HATE more than anything else. Everyone in my band thinks I suck because I'm a freshman and I don't have enough experience to hit every single note the first time. Not that I'm the best horn at my school, but people need to give us a break.
@CyberShinyNinja People don't realize how terribly difficult it is to play Horn. Any Woodwind player can never understand that playing brass instruments is a million times harder than woodwinds, particularly the French Horn. I'm also a freshman Horn player. I'm one of the best in my band and have been moved to the Junior/Senior band, and even I find it hard to sight read music with perfect accuracy. It's not the range or fingering of notes, it's just hard to hit them accurately.
@AsianSnowybrick Ever try to play a woodwind? Double reeds are very hard to play. Not to put down horns--I love them. But brass is a million times harder than a woodwind? Not at all true.
@AsianSnowybrick Terrible accuracy? I'm pretty sure these guys are pretty darn accurate. lol look at any major symphony in America and around the world. Accurate horn sections all around. with enough practice, Horn can be just as accurate as any other instrument there is. This is coming from a Horn student :)
WOW what an amazing group! I wish I could be apart of something like that! Quick question - what's the extra loop in the lead pipe for? I've never seen that before....
@aepack2006 - It is a Vienna horn, which is constructed very differently form almost any other horn you will ever see. It is an F horn - they do not use double horns at all in Vienna. You would need to be a student of one of these masters to play one, and to be considered to ever play with them, so just sit back and enjoy what they are able to do!
This is Fantastic! I wish I could do get my hand on a copy ( I know that no sheet music of this is available) My French Horn ensemble would sound awesome
How did you guys come together? How did this group start? You guys sound awesome. Just curious and wanted to let you know that you all have an amazing sound.
Stop asking if you can get the sheet music it is not going to happen. Just buy the CD and enjoy the music as it is performed. If you really want the sheet music the arrangment is quite simple to socre, you just need the permission and the capital funds to arrange it. Also you need to get a copywrite lawyer to make sure that you are not violating any international copy wirte laws. So with that said just buy the CD and enjoy.
@15timmyboy -----I wish I'd never given up the horn so I might possibly be ABLE to play with these guys. You can make all the excuses in the world, but the time is ALMOST there for anyone to become that good, given the talent. Even with a full time job I COULD have gotten there. Only myself to blame. That small degree of difference takes many many hours of practice to make up. And you have to stick with it day in & day out. They DO. I salute each & every one.
wow im so impressed my dream inlife is be able to play music like this im in band and im so dedicated i play trumped thinking bout french horn p.s. im a girl : )
@BingoStingRay Google 'Vienna Horn'. It's the actual instrument they play. The wrap and the valves are entirely different from the Kruspe and Geyer style horns in use today. The coil right below the mouthpiece can be changed to change the key of the horn.
Simply fantastic, what artistry, what an arrangement! It is absolutely clear that the arrangement cannot be available due to copyright. As one of the members explains all royalties go to the holders of the copyright and not the performers. In this world this sort of thing is what one could call a labor of love. For this reason we are lucky to be able to experience such exciting music played on the incomparable Vienna Horn - the purest, most beautiful horn sound on the planet. Thanks!
@tophrocks234 I'm a violinist, but I'd have to say I agree with you. If someone invented a horn that could match the dynamic range and versitility of a piano or a stringed instrument, we'd all be out of a job.
@TheHatTuba Only being a double horn player, I'd guess that because Vienna horns use interchangeable crooks (or at least some??) they use it to help brace the crooks to themselves. I am unsure, but probably has to deal with the crooks...
I think you guys should have put in a tuba for some richer bass notes. The horn kinda goes bass trombone-ish in the low register and maybe a tuba would have rounded it out.
horn-gasm is exactly right. they are extremely talented. i would love to be able to play that well. that would be awesome

@BingoStingRay Google 'Vienna Horn'. It's the actual instrument they play. The wrap and the valves are entirely different from the Kruspe and Geyer style horns in use today. The coil right below the mouthpiece can be changed to change the key of the horn.

Such virtuosity, such tone, such musicality, such is the beauty of the Vienna Horns.

Thanks!

Woooooow, this sounds better than any other horn groups. Were can you purchase Viennese Horns? and can you attend live performances?

Brilliant.
As a horn player, and I biased one at that, I have to say that the horn is the most beautiful instrument.
I'm iching to play it every second

@tophrocks234 I'm a violinist, but I'd have to say I agree with you. If someone invented a horn that could match the dynamic range and versitility of a piano or a stringed instrument, we'd all be out of a job.

The Horn is one of the few instruments that give me goose pimples.

Less zooming in on the mouth, more shots that show the fingers. What is so fascinating about watching their lips? ugh

What's with the cable ties on some of the horns?
TheHatTuba 8 months ago
@TheHatTuba Only being a double horn player, I'd guess that because Vienna horns use interchangeable crooks (or at least some??) they use it to help brace the crooks to themselves. I am unsure, but probably has to deal with the crooks...

I only took two years of German. What does all that German say?

I think you guys should have put in a tuba for some richer bass notes. The horn kinda goes bass trombone-ish in the low register and maybe a tuba would have rounded it out.
