  • katana ftw!!

  • dude my smithings 100 in skyrim... get at me

  • Im a blacksmith who makes knives...and i totally understand bro...i love it..and cant get enough

  • It always seems like he wanted to burp at the end of each sentence.

  • I'm really not much of a safety fanatic, but it wouldn't hurt if that guy should started wearing protective glasses at the grinder. You only got two eyes...

  • hipster artisan.

  • he uses throwing knives in MW2

  • does he need to burp, or shit?

  • If he has any chef's knives cheaper than shun, I'm alllll over it. Either way, awesome video, awesome production, awesome knives.

  • zach galifinakis's second job?

  • sweaty

  • That's exactly how I operate. "Oh look my blood, lol."

Then I'll just go back to grinding, no biggie.

  • I winced the entire time.

  • Up to 8am making knives? I hope his neighbors don't mind..

  • he's so humble. lovely quality.

  • Anybody know what type of handle material he's sanding at 5:21?

  • He doesn't actully MAKE the knives as such...does he? He just sharpens and shapes them.

    Beautiful work though. :)

  • @Pipedog42 He cuts the metal from sheet, shapes it, sharpens it; everything except annealing..

  • why he so sweaty.

    his gloves are scary

  • Working with your hands, the ultimate hipster dream

  • Too bad he doesn't forge knives

  • This guy is awesome and i admire him for his dedication but the guy keeps lookin like he needs to throw up or has a burp that wont come out.

  • LoL at 7:55. Are you gonna be bonin' a bunch of chickens?

  • no need for a serrated knife?

  • @cyphi1

Serrated knives are much harder to make and much more labor intensive.

  • @Gezab I can get a $10-25 mass-produced serrated knife that would be decent. There's no way I'm getting a $400 knife (I'm not a ninja!!!) Serrated blades are great for cutting things like bread. Show me a straight edge knife that cuts bread better than a serrated blade and you win.

  • @cyphi1

Then don't get a $400 dollar knife. What I'm saying is that he likely doesn't make serrated knives because they are a gigantic PAIN IN THE ASS to make.

  • @cyphi1 ever heard of ceramic knife? im not even in this argument and I won

  • @fourpointohh it wasn't really an argument. But, I appreciate your answer. I've never used ceramics before. Do they work well?

  • @cyphi1 chop the shit outa stuff with em! haha yeah as long as you dont buy a 20$ one they work well... I had one (forgot the brand) for 2 years and it was always razor sharp. they break mad easy tho

  • @fourpointohh I'll have to check that out!!! I make mad sandwiches (good shit!!!) and I've been buying breads from bakeries as opposed to the grocery store. It tastes better, and the first ingredient isn't High Fructose Corn Syrup either. I need a good knife. Right now only got one flat-edged blade. It cuts, but not that great. I'mma go to the store and get something soon. Looks like they have some good stuff out there. I'm actually looking really looking forward to trying one!!!

  • Those knives look dope. I"mma collect some knives!!!

  • I am very surprised that someone working at this full time does not seem to know much about his fellow cutlers. Or perhaps the clip was just cut badly. Try taking a look at blademag.com fellow knife enthusiasts - they have had articles on how to forge Damascus, heat treat, and anodise in the past. Also how to make folding knives.

  • "That's your blood?"..."Yeah...hehuh..." *continues working*

  • Test the sharpness on your thumb nail... less blood and just as effective at telling if it's sharp or not.

  • Hard not to admire someone who enjoys their work.

  • interesting guy, awesome knives, i'd buy one if i werent broke ^^

  • KNIFE SMOKE, DON'T BREATHE THIS

  • I Want To Buy One Just By Watching The Video

  • poor guy needs an antacid or somethin!

  • at 2:00 turn down your volume :)

  • Anybody with a dream and being so obsessive about their dreams, I admire them...

  • "Things were a little flexible up there" that's what she said.

  • This guy wins at life

  • no eyepro?

  • lol this guy is awesome!

  • This guy is awesome

  • very good and informative. we need one on pocket knives now

  • wow he should be using a facemask

  • He looks like Alan from The Hangover

  • @Xylit0l

and you look like my smelly balls

  • +1 on the video, -1 on not wearing a respirator

  • Appreciate your craftsmanship! Good luck to you. Great close up camera work also. Great story.

  • you can see why a custom knife like that would cost so much money, what a labor intensive process. but with all that money he should be able to afford new gloves

  • @moneyman10k eh, idk, it only took him like 10 min.

  • @moneyman10k He probably sees them as luck... those definitely look like his first gloves. When someone finds out how to do something very well they try not to change anything from their shoes, gloves, equipment brands and models etc. etc.

  • i wonder how many times he cuts himself,

    great vid

  • i uno he doesn't look all that emo.

  • I heard about special sushi knives that are apparently made out of some clay and they're supposed to be extremely hard. Shouldn't these type of knives be much better than those made out of steel? Not that I'm trying to drag down this guy's job or anything.

  • I think they're ceramic knives. I have no idea how sharp they are relative to the steel knives though

  • Thank you for responding nicely, not like that OurenV2 :)

and yeah thanks that's the word I was looking for, ceramic. Anyways I heard they're perfect for making sushi since they're so hard, while being so thin and smell doesn't stick on them. So why only use them for making sushi I wonder O.o

  • Limitations, as he said in the vid. Sushi is pretty squishy stuff. Ceramics are very hard, but when they break... there's no going back. Steel can bend, and be bent back when you sharpen it. There's no bending with a ceramic knife.

  • Ceramic can be made sharper than steel, but is more delicate.

  • @Mutzaki Clay harder than steel?

  • I meant ceramic knives, made out of zirconium oxide. They're much harder than steel but more brittle so they should not be bent or used for chopping.

  • @phillywriter harder = more brittle

  • Nice work indeed.

  • Man,

I just love his work!!! I´m a maker myself and do make kitchenknives..some of the hardest blades to make freehand grinding. You da man, Joel!!

    Vox

  • 500 for a stock removal knife?

    My ass.

This dude needs to learn how to forge and heat treat his own knives.

  • damarei,

No doubt you got the knowledge to blabber like that... Good on you!

  • I've owned 2 custom knives before, both were heat treated by the smiths that ground them out.

The heat treat is the soul of the knife, and to charge such exorbitant prices for what is basically sanding down a sheet of steel is ridiculous.

  • 7:30 = pwnage!!!

I love these high quality videos :)

  • @alexwonton damn thats some high quality knife :D I saw on his website that they cost around 525$

  • Now that's putting blood and sweat into your work!

  • how much does each knife cost ? A lot of work goes into them

  • 400 bucks

  • Bullshit :O

No way man ! I won't be getting one any time soon

  • :) amazing.

  • I love it! I love your story! Keep up the nice work, love to see you again!!!

  • I love these

  • wow i definitely want one of these

  • What a fantastic video! Thank you!

  • LOL when that guy was like 'i remember every knife i made' it reminded me of how the ollivander from harry potter remembers every wand he ever sold XP

  • wow nice memory XD

  • I really like how this video asked all the right questions without assuming too much. I hope to see more video's like this from CHOW. Keep it up.

  • Sixteenth

  • great video keep it up

  • very good interesting video! :D Thanks!

  • good on ya buddy. keep up the good work

  • what do you honestly think of cutco? i work for them and i would like your opinion on it... i realize this is only you in the video, and not your channel, but i would like a way to find out your opinion... any help would be appreciated

  • LMAO "whats a tang" XD!!

  • Do you ever get infections in those wounds? o.o

  • this guys the man

  • is really really great to see people commited to what they do

  • where can I buy one? I like this guy....he seems cool

  • awesome, but I prefer Ceramic knives, so much sharper
