I'm really not much of a safety fanatic, but it wouldn't hurt if that guy should started wearing protective glasses at the grinder. You only got two eyes...
@Gezab I can get a $10-25 mass-produced serrated knife that would be decent. There's no way I'm getting a $400 knife (I'm not a ninja!!!) Serrated blades are great for cutting things like bread. Show me a straight edge knife that cuts bread better than a serrated blade and you win.
Then don't get a $400 dollar knife. What I'm saying is that he likely doesn't make serrated knives because they are a gigantic PAIN IN THE ASS to make.
@cyphi1 chop the shit outa stuff with em! haha yeah as long as you dont buy a 20$ one they work well... I had one (forgot the brand) for 2 years and it was always razor sharp. they break mad easy tho
@fourpointohh I'll have to check that out!!! I make mad sandwiches (good shit!!!) and I've been buying breads from bakeries as opposed to the grocery store. It tastes better, and the first ingredient isn't High Fructose Corn Syrup either. I need a good knife. Right now only got one flat-edged blade. It cuts, but not that great. I'mma go to the store and get something soon. Looks like they have some good stuff out there. I'm actually looking really looking forward to trying one!!!
I am very surprised that someone working at this full time does not seem to know much about his fellow cutlers. Or perhaps the clip was just cut badly. Try taking a look at blademag.com fellow knife enthusiasts - they have had articles on how to forge Damascus, heat treat, and anodise in the past. Also how to make folding knives.
you can see why a custom knife like that would cost so much money, what a labor intensive process. but with all that money he should be able to afford new gloves
@moneyman10k He probably sees them as luck... those definitely look like his first gloves. When someone finds out how to do something very well they try not to change anything from their shoes, gloves, equipment brands and models etc. etc.
I heard about special sushi knives that are apparently made out of some clay and they're supposed to be extremely hard. Shouldn't these type of knives be much better than those made out of steel? Not that I'm trying to drag down this guy's job or anything.
Thank you for responding nicely, not like that OurenV2 :)
and yeah thanks that's the word I was looking for, ceramic. Anyways I heard they're perfect for making sushi since they're so hard, while being so thin and smell doesn't stick on them. So why only use them for making sushi I wonder O.o
Limitations, as he said in the vid. Sushi is pretty squishy stuff. Ceramics are very hard, but when they break... there's no going back. Steel can bend, and be bent back when you sharpen it. There's no bending with a ceramic knife.
LOL when that guy was like 'i remember every knife i made' it reminded me of how the ollivander from harry potter remembers every wand he ever sold XP
what do you honestly think of cutco? i work for them and i would like your opinion on it... i realize this is only you in the video, and not your channel, but i would like a way to find out your opinion... any help would be appreciated

Test the sharpness on your thumb nail... less blood and just as effective at telling if it's sharp or not.

Ceramic can be made sharper than steel, but is more delicate.

@Mutzaki Clay harder than steel?
phillywriter 1 year ago
I meant ceramic knives, made out of zirconium oxide. They're much harder than steel but more brittle so they should not be bent or used for chopping.
Mutzaki 1 year ago
@phillywriter harder = more brittle

damarei,
No doubt you got the knowledge to blabber like that... Good on you!
voxnaes 2 years ago
I've owned 2 custom knives before, both were heat treated by the smiths that ground them out.
The heat treat is the soul of the knife, and to charge such exorbitant prices for what is basically sanding down a sheet of steel is ridiculous.
