  • RIP Rich Pedroli

  • How did he die?

  • I heard he had a heart attack sometime around 2002.

  • He died of a heart attack during a night time jog in October 2006.

  • Is John Miller still bowling?

  • I was looking through the Bogey Lanes website one day, and saw his name on one of the leagues, maybe it was him.

  • at 0:13 what an excellent spare. unbelievable!

  • Don't see that made for a spare that often!

  • 4:53 - Norwood special!

  • With the breaks these guys get, it can be difficult to watch; and I'm a duckpin bowler!

  • True... but on the other side, they just muscle everything and have little accuracy on their first ball. But if you don't throw it hard, you don't get any action, so you're left to choose your poison.

  • I kinda disagree with that statement. Even with a slower speed, the size and weight of the ball makes it so easy to pull or let drift the other way. Candlepin is just plain hard.

  • Yeah, I can see that. It's been 20 years since I touched a candlepin ball and I was so conditioned with the heavy ball that I had no concept there was a difference in technique, but instead tried to crank it like I do my 16-lb ball. As you might imagine, this did not bode well.

    Fortunately, I was on vacation...

I would love to have another go at it again, not because I think I'd do much better but because it would just be fun.

  • if the ball were much heavier the scores would be much higher. you really need to whip one of these balls to get some marks.

  • I always wondered what happened to Rich Pedroli, I never saw him the three years I was on the pro tour.

  • Rich bowled until 1992. Sadly he passed away of a heart attack on October 2, 2006, at the age of 44.

  • Thanks for the info! It's sad to hear. Do you happen to know how many other major pro bowlers that have stopped candlepin bowling? I heard Tom Olszta moved out of New england, true?

  • He did but he move back and took it up again.... sad to say he hasn't bowled the same since he left.

  • Bob Kelly is no longer bowling, along with Dan Murphy, both because of bad backs. I know them both.

  • Wasn't Bob Kelly left-handed? I remember watching him in a match with Craig Holbrook on Channel 5 when I was 3 1/2 years old (wow!). But he is a lefty, right?

  • Maybe, I am just 13 years old. I have never seen him bowl. So, I wouldnt know. I could ask. Also, there were 2 Bob Kellys. One made channel 5 at least once every decade from the 50's to the 90's, and the other, know, also made channel 5, and also went up against Tom Olszta in 1980 on the live show. So, I wouldn't know, do you remember where he was from?

  • I think he was from Stoneham.

  • Then yes, he was.

  • Pretty good.
