  • people r goofy

  • why do people think that Jim nabors is gay is it because he never got married why should it matter to be honest the original meaning for the word gay is happy if you don't believe me then you should look it up in the dictionary

  • kosherspeare, sjdave, if the man hasn't said he's gay (which he has not), it's disrespectful to make that claim on his behalf. And it's puerile to attack others based on a rumour for which you have no evidence. Grow up, breathe, and get a life, please.

  • He has the best voice ever.

  • A GREAT SINGER

  • The Old Rugged Cross - may it protect a cousin of mine who lives in New Jersey and right now is terrified because of Hurricane Irene.

  • His voice is made for songs like this.

  • beautiful voice!

  • What a voice! What a singer! Magnificent!

  • There are several comments on here about Jim Nabors being gay. He isn't. It was a rumor that got started because he never got married and because of a joke that the media ran with as truth. The joke was "Rock Hudson and Jim Nabors are getting married. Then Hudson will be Rock Pyle." The media didn't take it as the joke it was and the rumors ran rampant. Jim, himself, was horrified by these rumors. The poor man, even at 80 years old, is still thought of this way. Please leave him alone.

  • @KathyL1958 Kathy dear he was gay AND a Christian. It's ok, Deep breath.

  • @KathyL1958 If the unthinkable were true... if Jim Nabors was gay... tell me... would his voice suck? Would his acting be erased? Those are rhetorical questions. The answer is 'no' all around. Grow up and get on the bus.

  • It is the message, not the messenger

  • boda

  • GREAT VOICE AND A WONDERFUL SONG... A GOD GIVEN TALENT !

  • beautiful.

  • This is beautiful.

  • Sergeant Carter likes this.

  • I consider this one the greatest versions of this song. Jim Nabors is flawless.

  • That's so beautiful that you forget Jim Nabors was a homosexual.

  • @AWTD and what the frig is wrong with being gay .............. come and join the 21st cent

  • @autofiljoe If you want to be gay and you are not a Christian Oh well you are right that is something I have to live with. But if you are a Christian you have to live by God's rules and you either have to give him up, or give up being an active homosexual. To do otherwise would be like someone eating a steak and claiming to be a vegan you can't do both.

  • @wzippler i far from gay u dick but have gay mates and would you beleave it they go to church so that sunk your boat

  • @autofiljoe Nope it's not what they think that counts. It is God's opinion that matters. And being actively gay is a sin. Now no Christian is sinless I sin too. But we need to recognize that sin is wrong.

  • Autofiljoe, You're an idiot.

  • @AWTD Some say he was, because of never marrying or having a girlfriend...some say he was not because he denied it and no one could prove otherwise. He was smart enough to keep his personal life out of the tabloids.

  • great song!!

  • What a wonderful voice, I fill the power of the annointing in his voice. God blessed him...I listened to a number of singers, but this touched my spirit. thank you

  • I just love the old hymns!

  • i love jim nabors voice as a singer.

  • My Dad, God bless him, sang this all the time; giving me my introduction to Christianity. Christ has been with me to this very day and will be until the end and beyond.

  • JIM NABORS, WHAT A WONDERFUL MAN AND A GOD GIVEN VOICE~

    MARTHA ECKERT

  • My brother-in-law went Home to be with Jesus last week. The tears that I am shedding will be bring healing to my heart and soul. God Bless You, Jim Nabors.

  • @Rustina61 May our precious Lord touch you sister in your sorrow, just know that this brother in Christ will include you in his prayers.God Bless You!!! In this world tears can be a good thing, where your loved one now is, there is no use for tears, he's with our Lord, wrapped in the everlasting arms.

  • @sledge1960 Thank you so much, yours are beautiful words ! He was loved by many people, and a good Christian man. May God Bless You, also.

  • @Rustina61 I look forward to seeing you in glory sister, you can introduce me to your brother-in-law too. Just remember He is your refuge and your strong tower, faithful beyond measure. God Bless You.

  • @sledge1960 Your message made me smile, thank you again ! You'd like Eddie, he was always very gracious, making everyone feel welcome in his home. He was our son's Godfather, I imagine he's looking down from Heaven, watching and guarding us. Peace be with you !

  • Great..............its a shame he never made more songs

  • @droopy12able

    ...he did.

He has several albums out, including a Christmas album.

He sang quite a bit as Gomer Pyle, also.

  • This song is one of my favorite "gospel" songs. It always takes me back to my childhood where I sometimes went to my Grandma's church when I stayed with her for the weekend. The full immersion baptismal tank was backed by a mural, yellowed with age. It was three bare crosses on a hill. What a beautiful memory.

  • Lovely voice to go with a lovely song.

  • gomer sure could sing

  • This version of this song brought me to tears. I remember when he sang for the first time on the "Andy Griffith Show" and how surprised people were that his voice was so beautiful and pure.

  • praise our lord.. jim a beautiful heart felt voice. bless you

  • Jesus does save.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • who woulda ever thunk Gomer Pyle could sing like this!!!! Most believed at the time, it wasn't really him singing but it was! A truly memorable man, Gomer Pyle he will always be.

  • Thank you Jesus for the cross because now we are saved by your redeeming blood.

Have a very heavy cross and can't carry it. Check willann54 channel Miracle prayer.

  • sorry... he is and proud

  • @Browntown1 no he isn't. Look it up.

  • @Godsmessenger3 Do you always judge others without stating a just cause?

  • I pray he wasn't really gay'

  • @TheWaymoreblues He isn't , actually the rumor that he was gay horrified him

  • @TheWaymoreblues he's not.

  • SHAZAM!!!!!!

  • Good job on this one..Jim

  • This is just one of the great songs that has came out the Bible. hgr/Shadow Rider

  • @mejak888: Do you think Jim Neighbors sins are worse than yours? Do you think the blood of Christ is pure enough to forgive you of your sins but not Jim Neighbors? If you do you need to go and read your bible. ALL who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. May His name be praised forever and ever. Maranatha!

  • I cant help but feel the spirit when I hear Jim sing this song.

  • @Ydontyougosuckone696

You, horrific despicable person, that you are.....should go back under the rock you climbed out of....to use a posting such as you did,,,when an incredible man is singing one of the best gospel songs ever in a voice that was a gift from God...should never be allowed to post anything on utube again..I cannot find the words to describe what you are......

  • @Ydontyougosuckone696 That was just an ugly rumor and it not true.

  • by the way, excellent job on this video with GORGEOUS pictures! TY for posting this!!

  • Wow he OWNS this song ! what a voice!!

  • @GingerGilligan : Yeshua (Jesus, Isa) is more real than you are. Repent and be saved. Yeshua died so you do not have to go to Hell. Accept His gift of salvation before it is too late.

  • Great voice!

  • Most ppl never knew the man was such a great singer , but his voice was truly one of a kind . RIP brother .

  • @lladnar71 he's still alive!

  • great song god less everyone

  • i locve the song its true america

  • Thank you for this wonderful song, Jim Nabors was always so great to listen to.

  • Why are the ratings disabled for this?

  • You need to listen to Little Roy Wiggins version of this song

  • Comment removed

  • Not to draw any attention away from Christ and the cross... but I can't believe this is the voice of Gomer Pyle!

  • @verydull You never Watched his musical show on TV when you was a kid, did you? and you never listened to his albums. Gomer had a beautifull voice. you may only remember the comidian side of him.

  • @verydull

It is very definitely Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle)

  • @tngranny1: Amen. We cannot earn our salvation nor can we do anything to 'guarantee' it. We are completely at the mercy of God. As the bible says "While we were yet sinners Christ died for us". Maranatha!

  • @ljackso You cannot earn your salvation but you can unearn it by letting your faith die. "Faith without works is dead, .....but "Faith is perfected by works." So be careful about preaching the sugar coated ear tickling gospel of religious leaders in America today, in a church world where St. Paul's prophecy is being fulfilled "they having heaped up teachers unto themselves turn away from the truth."

  • @mejak888 And I'm a practicing procrastinator, glutton, and liar, among other things. I still love Jesus. And I"m thankful every day for his grace... because I need it.

  • @johnseeking Amen to that

  • @mejak888 And I'm a practicing procrastinator, glutton, and liar, among other things. I still love Jesus. And I"m thankful every day for his grace... because I need it.

  • @johnseeking me too. as the tax collecter say, :Lord have mercy on me for I am a sinner:

  • What a meaningful song. Jim Nabors has such a beautiful voice ! IIf not for the old rugged cross we would be dead in our sins. Jesus bore our sins in his sinless body and crucified them with Himself so that whoever believes that He did that for them, will have eternal life with Him in heaven. He did that for everyone , but only the ones who believe will be saved. When we believe on Him, we are new creatures in Him. Our sins are gone and we walk in the newness of life. Our will is His will.

  • @tngranny1 But your believing has not made you spiritually perfect yet? When do you suppose you might become perfectly like Jesus?

  • @MegaSage007; We are made perfect in Spirit the moment we ask Yeshua to forgive us of our sins and accept Him as Lord and Savior. We have the righteous and holiness of Christ because of his sacrifice. At the Rapture we will be transformed into perfect beings without spot or blemish! Maranatha!

  • @ljackso Chapter and verse please. No man in the history of the world was ever made spiritually Perfect the day he was saved. In saying you have the righteous and holiness of Christ, you put yourself in the big leagues with the holy Prophets and Apostles. Sorry, but you are the one who needs to read your Bible. As to a rapture before the trouble comes. Thats your flesh wanting to avoid the cross.

  • @MegaSage007 a house divided against itself cannot stand

  • @johnnythesailorman You are right. A divided house cannot stand. And the Apostasia predicted by Saint Paul in his prophecies is going to take place and when it does those whose oil has run out in their vessels will be left behind, but those with oil will be caught up to the clouds to be with the Lord. Anyone who says they are spiritually perfected the day they received Christ has no reason to make his vessel ready with oil. He has already arrived. Which one are you?

  • @MegaSage007 I'm the one smart enough to not waste my life analyzing, interpreting and reinterpreting babblings from ancient shroomed out madmen.

  • when i was a little girl my grandma took me to church and she loved this song.now shes gone and i think of her when ever i hear this song it makes me cry. love jennyxox

  • My Cousin died and this was one of the Hymns at his funeral......It a beautiful song .RIP Kelvin....Forever missed.

  • how i love this song bless you all

  • be quiet. he died for are sins!

  • @shindouhikaru43 : Yes Yeshua died for our sins. Praise Him. Maranatha!

  • This shows how Jesus paid for our sins in full, yet we are so very uderserving.

  • love it

  • what does the lion represent in the last picture?

  • I am told that the Lion represents the Kingship of God

  • jesu

  • The lion represents Jesus Christ who carries the title "The Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah". Hope this helps.

  • The Lion represents Christ. He was given many names. In Revelation he is refered to the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.

  • hi,i know you mean well, but when you say you'll carry your cross, just remember they hund Him on His cross, are you sure if & when i comes time will you wait on Christ,or be in the falling away?i hope you know satan(anti)christ,"anti"(means instead of)..but so many ppl that are taught false traditions of man.like the "rapture" is a false doctrine,& a very bad thing is:"easter",which was a pagan(sex orgy)held in the spring to the goddess ISHTAR,&it got into God's own house..May God Bless u & urs.

  • 1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. 2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. 3 Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt. Psalms 123

  • Amen my freind

  • His voice is God given so Gods flock may hear!

  • wahoooo... what a wonderful voice,, beautifully sang. Many thanks.

    God bless.

  • This is beautiful. I had this sung at my wedding as it was my Dad and Grandma's favourite. The funny thing was the Priest had never heard of it (my Dad and Grandma are/were a different denomination to me), so I really had to push to get it in the ceremony. It was only years later I discovered it was a funeral hymn. But I don't care. It brought so much pleasure to my family that it brings a smile and a tear every time I hear it. It's beautiful. Thank you.

  • I want to thank you for this incredible post, and I wish to bring it to the attention of everyone that there is not a single idiotic, or ignorant comment here, what do you think that means?

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • I've never heard this song sung so beautifully. What a voice!

  • O.O My mom just had me look this up after watching an episode of the Andy Griffith Show... WOW.

    ~God Bless.

  • People may crack jokes about his speaking voice as Gomer Pyle, but his SINGING voice is UNDENIABLY CELESTIAL.

  • Coming from a Scottish family, new year was always a party and everyone had to do their party piece, my Uncle Duncan used to sing this, he died last week, so I had to listen to this one more time. RIP Uncle Duncan

  • Jesus carried our sins to calvary.

  • Yes he did.

  • A friend of mine sang this at my grandfather's funeral on Tuesday. This song makes me cry everytime I hear it. It's sung so beautifully here.

    Take care.

  • I was carried away..

  • SERIOUSly awesome

  • This is beautiful. Jim Nabors always does a beautiful job of hymns. He certainly owes a lot to Andy Griffin. God Bless you for playing this.

  • I love The Old Rugged Crosss. This was beautiful.

I met Jim Nabors in 1966 at 4-H Club Congrss in Chicago at the Conrad Hilton Hotel. I was a senior in high school at the time. General Foods sponsored his appearance to the delegates. He gave me his autograph and wrote on it "Rebecca, Gomer says Hey!

  • My family friend always said she'd never forget seeing her mother break into tears the first time they saw Gomer Pyle singing on "Gomer Pyle, USMC" -- they thought Gomer was going to massacre some Christmas carol and make a goofy scene, and they were shocked when that gorgeous voice came out of Gomer's mouth

  • I used to love him singing 'Sunrise Sunset'. This one suits him well too!

  • One of the first songs that I ever remember, thankyou so much.

I love the sight of that wonderful member of the Animal Kingdom at the end of your vid. They are so much better than us.

  • Nice song and video.

    Rev.J.C.B.

  • Very nice.

  • I loved Jim Nabors on Andy Griffin show and the Gomer Pyle show. He has a voice like no one else. When he sings the gospel songs he can always give me goose bumps. Thank you so much for posting this beautiful video.

  • Beautiful Hymn, thanks for posting. God Bless you.

  • Is he a tenor?

  • Either a tenor or a lovely lyric baritone. Lovely voice. I watched this man as Gomer Pyle growing up. I treasure his memory. He has a beautiful, beautiful voice.

  • my grandmothers favourite hymn. she died a long time ago but i still love this hymn
