@Lordofthenipplerings again. Kimura trained with Karl Gotch in Catch wrestling. He was a student of combat grappling always wanting to learn new things.
@panther2552 No. Kimura never trained with Karl Gotch in real fighting. He only entered pro wrestling and arranged fights in the 1950s. He did staged fights to earn a living. "I did pro wrestling shows throughout Japan. That is a good idea. We will be able to build a fortune. Let's do it!" The 1st bout was going to be a draw. The winner of the 2nd will be determined by the winner of a paper-scissors-stone. After the 2nd match, we will repeat this process".
@Lordofthenipplerings you do realize even though he was doing "worked" pro wrestling at the time he can still train with his co workers in legitimate combat techniques.
@Lordofthenipplerings it's not speculation when both he and Gotch (a legitimate Catch Wrestler) talked about learning different techniques from one another. Even Billy Robinson a Gotch training partner speaks about it.
@panther2552 Of course its speculation. Gotch was a pro-wrestler. He wasnt involved in real fighting. To say that they may have traded ideas is one thing. To suggest Kimura's pro-wrestling experience was substantially influential on him as a fighter is another.
Another fact: Saku is a Catchwreslter, not a Bjj or jujitsu fighter. Wanna know the history of wrestling? Pick up a copy of Ruff and Tumble. Also check out Mr. Billy Robinson, and you'll get a very good insight on Catchwrestling.
Fun fact: Saku defeated Royler and Renzo with the double wrist lock. That technique was taught to Kimura by Catchwrestlers. Most submission fighters don't even know how to proper set up and execute the double wrist lock.
Lots of Jiujitsu. Almost all of his submissions were standard armbars. He even tapped during his fight with Royce. But Royce appeared to have ignored it and so did the refs.
don'tt really know much about Sakuraba, but he seems like one of the only japanese fighters to stand up against the western fighters with intelligence and fearlessness. i would've loved to see that 90- minute fight with Royce Gracie, pure martial arts event, battling til the end, no modern day BS-- no guts, no glory.
@richnin lil insight: Sakuraba is reguarded as one of if not the greatest MMA fighters ever. He's beaten 7 UFC champs, 3 Kings of Pancrase. His losses during his prime came to men outweighing him 30lbs or more like Wandy, Arona, Lil Nog. He doesn't believe in fighting for decision and is willing to take risks to finish the fight. The best example of his greatness to me was after his fight with Royce, he went to a draw in regulation with no 1 HW Igor Vovchachyn in the same night.
Inspirational. Sakuraba is such a rare breed of fighter, in my mind hes one of the few who transcends MMA. He's basically done being relevant now, and he should probably retire, but who among us really has a right to tell a true legend like him what he should do? I just hope he doesnt get hurt seriously, it would break my heart.
Sakuraba and Hendo are the 2 craziest mofo ever, they dont care if you out weigh them, bigger, stronger, taller if they want to fight you they will put up a damm good fight.
@ appleball. you dont know shit about mma if you dont recognize a true pioneer of this sport. did you know Sakuraba is one of Dana white's favorite fighters and that he wanted to have him in the UFC verry badly?
epic. nothing more to say because this stuff is breathtaking. thank you mrspiderpigbegins for this great highlight and Thank you Sakuraba for giving me some of the most amazing fights i have ever seen
have u seen the old man on the last 2 min well remenber him cuz if he didnt exist ufc woult be so great so if yall talk shit about gracie fam u might as well shut the fuck up
Sakuraba is who first inspired me to start training in jiu jitsu. I started watching MMA very intently in 2000, thanks to Pride. When I saw Saku's matches against Vernon White and Carlos Newton, I realized how cool the "ground game" really was, and I knew I just had to learn it. I love the Japanese fighters, they will fight anyone, regardless of the difference in weight, height, style, or experience. These days, there's fighters that will complain if their opponent weighs 5 lbs more than they do
Sometimes i do something for 2 minutes and then I am wondering how i wasted that 2 minutes of my life :D. This video is for youtube really long and I watched it already few times and it's still interesting and amazing
Fucking amazing, I got goosebumps and nothing I mean nothing gives me goosebumps. You did such a great job with this video. Every real fan of MMA should watch this. God damnit, fucking great job you son of a bitch.
@MrGetthefuckup Haha thanks for both comments, really nice to hear that man! "one of my favourite things in existence" thats gotta be one of the nicest compliments I've ever gotten! Thank you so much!
Sakuraba, the original pro wrestler turned MMA Legend. Now the term 'legend' is used alot, but saku is a REAL legend of MMA. his fight with newton is one of the most technical fights i've ever seen.. forget okami, Saku is the best japanese fighter of all time!
@panther2552 He was the first man in PRIDE to drop Wandy, stood toe to toe with CC, fought Igor Vovchanyn - the number 1 HW in the world at the time IMMEDIATELY after the 90 minute match with Royce, and fought Manhoef and Miller once washed up.
@dmlisa1987 look at it this way at 183lbs that the same weight BJ Penn walks around at who fights at 155(Lightweight). Sakuraba was fighting men that weighed 230 and above. and not just big guys but Elite fighters like Wanderlei Silva, Randleman, Conan, Shamrock, Rampage, Cro Cop, Igor Vovchanchyn, Arona..etc He beat many and lost to some, going undefeated for 3 years. What other man at that weight was considered a legitimate threat, even a favorite against elite fighters that much bigger?
@dmlisa1987 his record is now 26-15 with 2 NC. with most of his losses coming recently now that he's well out of prime or to men that outweighed him by 30lbs or more like Wanderlei, Arona and Cro Cop. He's not in the UFC because he's contracted with Dream. He is the UFC Ultimate Japan tournament champion, defeating Conan Silvera for the title. Conan outweighed him by 60lbs and Saku had to lie about his weight to enter the tounry. it was for 200lbs and over. Saku weighed 180lbs.
Every time I get someone in a double wrist lock(kimura)I think of him. In fact to show honer to the legend I whisper to my prey "Sakuraba says hello."
@1Freefighter Yes, although I'm not sure I would want to do one. There are already so many good ones so I don't feel the need for another one :/ However I did a small one called The Fall of The Last Emperor about his fight with Werdum. You can find the link to it in the video called "The Fall of The Last Emperor by MrSpiderpigbegins" or go to my vimeo page where I have some more HL's that I haven't uploaded to my YT page.
@MrSpiderpigbegins2 But i cant find any that is that good like this one ;-) thets the right music for MMA. I have been standing in the cage for many times, and all i can say is that this music discribes your feelings that you have during a fight: respect, anger, willingness, fear, and not to forget a lot of PRIDE! Most of the other Videos use this "MMA is pure Hate and just a wild brawl" So please, your asked by someone who knows what he is talking about: Please do a fedor ighlight video :-)
wow! really good stuff. i like the color-thing you did with Saku's pants...although, it COULD have used a montage of some entrances/antics. here's hoping for a sequal!
@carljangranqvist Thanks man, I see what you mean with the entrances. At first I actually made a intro with most of his entrances but the song didn't fit in with the rest of the video and the pace of it slowed down the rest of the video so I decided to take it out of the final video. I'm glad you liked it though :D
@noobkingramsley i wouldn't have minded that back in his prime, but not now after all the wars he's been through he shouldn't be fighting anymore monsters that have 50lbs on him.
Holy crap, this is quite possibly the best mma movie I have seen, man I fucking loved that, thankyou. Helio congratulating Saku was a brilliantly moving way to end
I am a gracie fan , and when I first saw sakuraba in Pride I knew he was unique. Yes Saku is a legend and not just for defeating four gracies but how he fought and invented some tactics in the ring, absolutely amazing. Rickson didn't fight him because his son died, I just wish that fight happened but it's understandable why it didn't. Respect to the japanese legend.
@greyfoxau Yes, Could you imagine Sakuraba vs. Rickson. I remember how they talked about it after Sakuraba beat Royce I believe. That would have been something!
I really enjoyed this video :) I especially liked that fact that you didn't try to make the Gracie family look like dicks, which is usually a major part of any Sakuraba highlight here on Youtube.I mean, yeah, they may look like complete tools with a little editing, but at the end of the day Sakuraba shows admiration for them, so they can't be all bad, you know :) Anyways, thanks for a great highlight of a remarkable fighter who has touched the heart of a lot of people around the world.
@SimonHenrichsen I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Sakuraba was such an amazing fighter. I wish he'd never grow old :) You should respect the Gracies they were the fathers of modern MMA and Sakurabas feud with the Gracies is one of, if not the most legendary feud in all of MMA so therefore I think it would be wrong to disrespect the Gracies. Although I think Royler isn't helping the Gracie name by not facing Eddie Bravo in ADCC.
@MrSpiderpigbegins2 He had cocaine problems, spent time in jail, shot himself.... If I remember right someone in the family made a comment once "Teaching Ryan BJJ was the worst decision of my life"
@MrSpiderpigbegins2 well, joe rogan was talking about this the other day and he made a very good point. royler is down to fight eddie but he's trying to get the most bang for his buck as far as monetary compensation goes. he has the gracie name which is of value but as time goes on and the majority of fans become younger folks new to the sport, more and more people won't know who the gracie's are. so, as far as a payday goes, time is not on roylers side. i would love to see them roll again.
The best of Catchwrestling. Wonder what the Pioneers would say if they were around.

MrSpiderpigbegins2 7 months ago
i love how the gracies last defeat was by kimura lock. and then saku comes in and kimura's two of them
did hemean to?XD
normalnamesplz 7 months ago
@normalnamesplz funny thing is kimura was taught the double wristlock by Karl Gotch who was a training partner of Billy Robinson, Sakuraba's teacher.

Sakuraba is the man. There's just no other way to say it. Epic HL. What was the song that kicks in at 6:08 when he's fighting the Gracie Family?

MrSpiderpigbegins2 7 months ago
@MrSpiderpigbegins2 The Gracies were the fathers of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Bruce Lee was the father of MMA today.

@MrSpiderpigbegins2 Ryan is the only Gracie I have no respect for.
Gregolian 7 months ago
@Gregolian I have no problem with him. I like his ferociousness :)
MrSpiderpigbegins2 7 months ago
@MrSpiderpigbegins2 He had cocaine problems, spent time in jail, shot himself.... If I remember right someone in the family made a comment once "Teaching Ryan BJJ was the worst decision of my life"
Gregolian 7 months ago
@Gregolian Yeah, I mean he wasn't exactly a role model but I still enjoyed his fighting alot.
MrSpiderpigbegins2 7 months ago
@MrSpiderpigbegins2 well, joe rogan was talking about this the other day and he made a very good point. royler is down to fight eddie but he's trying to get the most bang for his buck as far as monetary compensation goes. he has the gracie name which is of value but as time goes on and the majority of fans become younger folks new to the sport, more and more people won't know who the gracie's are. so, as far as a payday goes, time is not on roylers side. i would love to see them roll again.

whos the guy that tried for the flying armbar at 4:10?
battlemeok 8 months ago
@battlemeok Nino "Elvis" Schembri, and actually I think he tried to jump guard since he didn't have control of Sakurabas arm/arms.
MrSpiderpigbegins2 8 months ago
@MrSpiderpigbegins2 oh thanks and damn he jumped pretty high for guard then o.o
